View Full Version : congratulations to Sharapova on her first clay title

now she will face Lindsay but we all know Lindsay is nowhere near her old form. Sharapova will reach the final and kick those little girls' ass. she will capture her first clay title and sunddenly the fans will climb up from their holes with a thread like "how many RGs she will win in her entire career?" or "how many games Henin can take off Sharapova in Paris?" or "Sharapova will dominate 2008!"

this is so good to the tour!

Imagine if Maria wins today and loses to Cornet. Then there'll be more Cornet to win RG threads.

the different between them is Lindsay doesn't give a fuck on clay, at least not as much as Sharapova who desperately wants to win her first dirt trophy.

sorry but green clay is far different from red
1. the color
2. even Davenport has said this i believe, that Green clay is faster than red, which is why she only plays on green
so until Maria wins a red clay court title, she isn't a contender for French Open:shrug:

Also, Maria hasn't played well this week, going to three sets with Medina and Alona, i think either Lindsay or Cibulkova will beat her:shrug:

actually she was even expected to lose to Medina and Bondarenko. the way she turned in around to win is telling us something. even me, gotta admit i'm very surprised.

i still think Sharapova has more eagerness than Lindsay.

Sharapova fought well to win yesterday and her game has definitely improved and her movement is much less akward on clay now. She also attempted to mix up her game and try to use finesse which worked a few times.

On the other hand, Lindsay is a much better player on green clay and has showed this many times. It will be close, but I expect Davenport to win in two tough sets or three sets.

Linds tends to put in more effort at the tournaments she actually cares about. Amelia Island is one of them. ;)

Lindsay doesn't give a fuck on clay but she's won 14 straight at Amelia Island and 18 of 19.
She's won over 70% of her matches on clay.

She has more tournament wins on clay than half of the top 10 right now.
This is confidence booster for Lindsay.
Winning this tournament in 2004, got her back to number one.

She wants this as much as Sharapova if not more.

i wouldnt say its that she hasnt played well... I just think its that she needs a new tactic on clay... from what i saw yesterday it seem like she was trying to hit through the clay.... its working okay on the green stuff but she's gonna be in a lot of trouble on the red...

She did beat Patty Schynder last year at Roland Garros and made the semis.
She wasn't suppose to lose to those players.

And honestly so did the other two players you just brought up.
They lost because they didn't have the belief to take it to the next level and win.
So you expect Maria to win these kind of matches.

Um...hello? She is also older than ALL of the top 10. Half of the Top 10 are 23 or younger (Ana, Jelena, Maria, Sveta, Chaky) and among the rest of them, the oldest is Venus who is 4 years younger than Davenport.

When Davenport has been on the tour for so long, unless she really sucks big time on clay she's bound to win more clay court titles than HALF of them. I'm betting you that that means the 5 younger ones.

Actually she has less clay-court singles Tier I titles than half of the Top 10 too. (Justine, Ana, Jelena, Serena and Venus) and is tied with the rest of the Top 10 at 0 tournaments. :help:

i argued with Wannabeknowitall about how Sharapova had guts to win the match she should have lost lto the likes of Medina, Bondarenko and especially Schnyder. Patty is a good clay courter and @ that match last year she was so close to win it but at the end Sharapova took care of her business. that means she proved that she can win on clay if she wants to.

i didn't even want to fight if she deserved to win or anything. just try to READ :help:

I was so looking forward to this match! Lindsay fight for another chance at the title at a favorite tournament, Pova fighting for a chance at her first clay court title and the points to take over the #4 rank from JJ.

With the walk over, Pova will be #4 on Monday's WTA Rankings!!! She will get a much needed day's rest before the Final and that will improve her opportunity.

Too bad for the tournament! Losing the marquee match like that: Pova v Lindsay! I hope ESPN doesn't cancel coverage. I think Cornet v Cibulkova will be a very good match, They just don't have big names, yet.

I would not give the title Sharapova just yet.

Her movement is appalling. She is playing like it's a hard court. But again, the talent at the top is so much different than the talent in the middle that Sharapova can win this title doing that. But when she is moved, the points become tougher and Dominika or Cornet will have their chance.
