I didn't even know this existed, but their first pro event was held in 1974. It's their 32nd season already and founded by Billy Jean King.
Congrats Tammy and enjoy indeed!!

World Team Tennis in July

In July, Tammy will have the honour of taking part in a very important team competition being held in the United States. Now read on, for a more detailed explanation from Tammy about this new competition.

Now for some news, I am so exited to find out I have been drafted to play in WORLD TEAM TENNIS over the summer (after Wimbledon)... I am going to play for the Sacramento Capitals who are based in California and we will be travelling around America. I cant tell you what a great honor it is to be chosen to such a great team - they are the defending champions from last year and the captain is Wayne Bryan. YES, I am sure you know the name Bryan, its Bob and Mike Bryans, the amazing doubles teams dad... My teammates will be marquee player Dimitry Tursunov – atp 35, Elena Likhovtseva – wta doubles 38, Sam Warburg – atp 157 and Eric Butorac – doubles atp 35. We will be based in Sacramento with a stadium that will hold 4,300 people. GO CAPS!!

How this all works is a little bit like Fed Cup and Davis Cup joined together. The teams are split up into East and West. On the East side the teams are Boston Lobsters, Deleware Smash, New York Buzz, New York Sportimes, Philadelphia Freedoms and Washington Kastles. On the West side are the GREAT Sacramento Capitals, Kansas City Explorers, Newport Beach Breakers, St Louis Aces and Springfield Lasers. We play 14 tournaments, 7 at home and 7 away. Matches begin on the 3rd of July and end on the 23rd of July. If you would like to see our schedule (and find out about my great team) its all on www.gocaps.net

At each one of these tournaments, there are 5 matches. Mens singles, Womens singles, Mens doubles, Womens doubles, Mixed doubles. The first team in each match to reach a score of 5 games wins that match. The two teams from the east and the two teams from the west that have the highest overall score go to the semi-finals. World team tennis was founded by Billie Jean King and their first pro event was held in 1974. This year is their 32nd season, thats pretty impressive. The list of past players is like a who’s who of tennis, so I am very proud and very excited. Its going to be awesome. 14 matches in 20 days and all of them in the evening, its a tennis players dream. What an experience. You can also find information on World Team Tennis at www.wtt.com.

Hmm they show some of WTT here on Foxtel - but usually years after the actual tie took place. I remember seeing the caps last year against dunno which team, but Kournikova was on it.

Should be an interesting experience for Tammy. Hope she enjoys it.

Aww, hope she takes the chance to learn from the other top-players. Great opportunity for her to gain some experience :yeah:

Sacha Jones is also going to play WTT, but for the Washington team instead - would love to see them play each other :)
