View Full Version : Greta Arn not defending her title in Estoril

Arn withdrew from Estoril some weeks ago. Many people thought she would play Charleston qualies instead, but didn't. Nobody knows whether she is seriously injured though.

Even though nobody expected Greta to win Estoril again or to even come close, it is sad that she will get closer and closer to #200 now. She definitely had some good wins last year, even before Estoril; but then she completely fell apart. she kinda enjoyed being able to enter lots of Quali draws at big tournaments and stuff, but still could have done a lil' better I guess. -- After all, she got a pretty good game. It is just sad that she will fall so much now after fighting back from thrombosis and hospital into the top-100 at a age of 28. I wonder if she can bounce back once more as she is surely not getting any younger... Also, I don't think Olympics are too unrealistic now anymore due to her ranking plummet.

What do you think?

She didn't fall apart, she just tried too big.

She had some quite close losses against future prospects like Govortsova, Cibulkova, Knapp and Paszek. She had a bad draw in R1 Q of AO where she lost a tight match against Hsieh who then went as far as 4th round MD:

Retrospectively looking at 2007, Greta missed out on making some points on the ITF-tour.

She'll drop to around 180 after next week when the Estoril points come off and she doenst do too well in Fes.

Afterwards there is literally nothing to defend anymore. But she will be forced to play some ITF. Good for her rankings. I am still quite positive that she will finish the year Top100 if she remains fit and well.

Olympics might still work. At least in doubles. But if I had to decide I wouldn't got there anyway. No need to be a postergirl or boy for a regime of butchers.

It's almost sure Szavay's partner will be Arn in olympics....so she will be there :)

And what about Melinda?
If Greta's Estoril points disappear, Melinda will have better ranking in singles and mostly in doubles. (Greta has no doubles rank)

Szavay has high ranking enough to make them into dobules i think :)
Actually Gréta and Ági played together in Fed cup(and it wasn't so bad), while Melinda and Ági never played. (it's what MTSZ said, i read it few weeks ago).
My opinion: Gréta deserves to be in olympic (Czink has already participated in 2004)...

Must be a disgrace. :weirdo:

Even disgrace tournaments like Estoril proved to be too much for players like...for example Julia Schruff :help:

A poster said that he can't believe Federer is playing a tournament where Arn is the singles Champion. Then I said (it was irony) "Must be a disgrace for him"

:p Didn't talk about the tournament

By the way Schruff is a former Estoril Finalist so I dont think it's too much for her ;)
