Domi! :hearts:

Anna's attitude has been nasty as of late and I'm glad Dominika was able to win. Someone who fights and doesn't act like she should be winning every single match.

All the top players (including lindsay) had a tough day out...the underdogs performed really well, a great effort by all imo

I'm just loving Cibulkova's progress. She's proving to be one of the more dangerous players on the tour. I'm hoping that she'll be the surprise RG QF this year.

anna seems to have changed her game this year and i hate it! shes just slapping at the ball instead of being steady like last year, i just dont understand why shes doing this its not working.

as for her serve why hit 2 first serves if your going to hit #11 dfs and win hardly any 2nd serve points. anna please do me a favour and get rid of daddy hes not tough enough on you, your wild out there and need someone to tell you to reign it in and construct points. no player in their right mind can think that this way of playing will win matches.

im truely dissapointd anna i thought you were stronger than this and i didn't think you would start becoming a pointless ball basher, sort it out please and soon.

domi well done but i doubt you had to do much bar put the ball in court and wait for anna to slap it out.

Anna's low on confidence and Domi's too good of a player for her to beat without confidence.

Anna hasn't been playing ball-bashing tennis. :tape:
When you have no confidence, your shots don't go in.
It doesn't mean she's going for broke.

I saw her loss in Miami.
She's not there mentally.

I'm sure Domi had many brilliant passing shots tonight.

i really didnt know who i wanted to win, but following the match i was pulling for domi. She needs a real breakout tournament and this is certainly the spot to do it. I have said since I saw the draw that she could reach the finals here and she has a great chance to do so imo. :D

Unfortunately, it won't be soon enough. She plays too many tournaments, and even averaging only one or two wins each is going to keep her there until probably after the US Open.

Her seventeen best results. Blue is what she's gotten THIS year. Red is what she's defending on clay.

Madrid SF = 335 pts
Stanford W = 275 pts
Paris [i] W = 275 pts
San Diego SF = 195
Rosmalen W = 140 pts
Cincinnati W = 140 pts
Dubai QF = 75 pts
Luxembourg QF = 70 pts
Linz QF = 70 pts
Warsaw QF = 70 pts
Rome 3R = 60 pts
Amelia Island 3R = 35 pts
--
Berlin 2R = 35 pts

Melbourne 3R = 90 pts
Paris QF = 250 pts
Wimbledon 3R = 90 pts
Flushing Meadows SF = 450 pts
Miami 3R = 45 pts

She's defending W(III)-W(II)-SF(I)-SF(GS) from July to August, 1060 pts. Plus an additional 140 (1200 overall) if you include her grass title. 1200/2665 = 45% (I think) of her points total came in three months. However, who knows if her form will stay the same all year. Even if she doesn't defend all these points, she can only gain in the clay season, at Wimbledon (albeit not by much probably), and her post-USO season.

Since the USO, though (September '07-April '08):
W - Paris [i]
SF - Madrid
QF - Luxembourg, Linz, Dubai
3R - Melbourne, Miami, Amelia Island
2R - Stuttgart, Moscow, Antwerp, Doha
1R - Sydney
W/L: 14-13

Long post, but, I'm not sure when she'd leave the top ten since she's bound to win a few matches at all of these events combined.

As I wrote a couple of weeks ago, I give her like 3-4 months to start playing better. If she can't then she would do better to return to the old style.

All the top players (including lindsay) had a tough day out...the underdogs performed really well, a great effort by all imo
Chakvetadze was the underdog here, especially on this surface. ;)

True and false. She is very low on confidence and really on the edge mentally speaking, but it is also true that she is going for broke. When I saw her against Radwanska in Dubai I was afraid every time she hit the ball cause she just closed her eyes and hit the ball as hard as she could and hoped for the best. That is not the Chakvetadze I remember.

I'm not surprised by the result, the only good news for Anna is that she fight and win the 2nd set, but then she start with 3 Dfs in the 1st game of 3rd set and has horrible serve %.

I see Cibulkova in Doha against Venus and Radwanska and if you are not patient in the construction of points it became very difficult.

Domi win also with Mauresmo please! ;)

anna's game is not meant for clay, dominika's is. :( unfortunately, she still should have won this match. she has gone so far downhill this year and it really is a shame. i hope she gets her game back on track soon. take a step back and reevaluate things.

She was crap even before that.

Since the USO semi vs. Kuznetsova she's been a mess. If she doesn't sort it out she'll be out of the top 10 during the hardcourt season, but I wish it was sooner. :o

let me just add even though im not happy with anna this year and she is just shuting her eyes and slapping the ball, she aint leaving the top 10 anytime soon. if she only wins 1 match at each of charleston, rome and berlin thats 3rd round of all 3, she will have increased her pre RG clay court points by 50 over last year, 165 compared to 215 with just 3 more wins in the clay season.

also even though im expecting so much more from her this year shes still ammassing points and her 1st and 2nd round lossess wont go on her ranking because she plays a lot of events.

paris - won
dubai - qtr
oz open - 3rd
miami - 3rd
AI - 3rd

thats over 500 points earned this year in those 5 events.

plus this was always gonna be chakvetadze sophmore (sp?) slump year and if she can get through it clinging onto top 10 then i think she will be in great stead for '09, shes never had to defend proper points before untill this year so its still all a learning curve.

having said all that cmon anna grind again and stop making errors go back to solid anna.

great analysis.

Losing this match to Cibulkova is not the worst thing that's ever happened to Anna. Cibulkova is a respectable player and it by no means is as embarrasing as previous early losses this year. While as an Anna fan I am dissapointed, I'm inclined to think that Anna will pick it up again sooner or later (hopefully sooner rather than later)
