For a supposedly boring tournament, we got 3 thrillers in one day. First, Amelie fights and wins in a 3rd set breaker, then Maria fights and wins in a 3rd set breaker, then Lindsay fights from a break down in the 3rd to win.

A shame we couldn't see any of it though.

A tournament with no TV coverage can't be exciting.

Agree (because Masha is here and plays good matches, also Momo with great fights and Lindsay won, too)! :p

Let's not get ahead of ourselves, now. I didn't see anybody with the first name "Venus" or "Serena" in the draw. It can't be that exciting.

Then again, there might be a thread on their decision not to play this tournament.

Even without coverage, it's been quite exciting. Alot of great players in AI, more than enough to have an exciting tournament!

The problem with IW and Miami is that they are so drawn out. It takes forever to get to the business end of the tournament. They should just be 1 week tournaments. Only Grand Slams should be 2 weeks IMO.

Agreed. Give me bad three-setters over bad two-setters anyday.

Well Serena was the only one who made Miami exciting  And Venus' hiatus is bringing more drama to this week so they're helping this week without even playing :worship:

The level of play is much better and the matches are much more exciting. I just wish there was more TV coverage of the early rounds.

I don't really call what FSN showed a "coverage" :p I got to see only one match from IW and two from Miami.

Exactly.

And I was thinking to make a thread about this too.
All kinds of exciting matches, filled stadiums, crazy players making comebacks, some finally showing their potential, some hardcourters refusing to give up on the dirt.

It's so cool we'll get to see how Masha and Alona handle their match after both had tough 3 setters today.
And then hopefully hopefully hopefully we'll get to see Szavay try to take down Mama Dav!

:haha: close scorelines so it must be good tennis.... lol this is about as bad as people callin Venus and Serena's last match a "classic"

Lets be honest with ourselves.. Amelie: has been sucking a lot as of late
Sharapova: has always sucked on clay
Lindsey: not exactly the power house on clay
These three having close matches doesnt equate great play....

:haha::haha:I'm trying to figure out what's so exciting about watching a scoreboard and coming to the conclusion that based on those results the tournament is "exciting". For all we know the top players in those
"thrillers" could be playing like crap.:tape:

Competitive matches are normally a lot more entertaining than blowouts. Plain and simple.

I am sorry but we can't just go all out and say they are exciting because of their nice scorelines.

For all we know most of the points could have been error and the winner of the match was who could suck the least (which i suspect they were:tape: )

Nobody is watching tennis whether it's on tv or not.
The matches involving the stars are closer in AI.
But the AO was better because of mens matches.

Typical. Reetards and Veetards seldom are able to see outside the box. Thank God not all their fans are as ignorant.

You know, I do like one of the Williams sisters--Vanessa.

It's funny how when it comes to the sisters certain posters completely lose their sense of humour.

You know, I do like one of the Williams sisters--Vanessa.Actually, your calling me ignorant is no big deal because you don't know me, and I'm not phased by anything you say. Though your words towards me are ugly, you're probably a beautiful person on the inside and the outside. Then again, you could be an unattractive little cockwhore who puts out to anything on two legs, but I digress.....

What is bothersome, though, is the fact that you fall short in the sarcasm and humour detection department. I'm sure the matches are exciting. I'm sure AI is wonderful this year.

Please understand the mindset of a "fan." Realize that whenever I support someone else, it doesn't necessarily mean I don't support you, babe.

AI is more exciting that then two other mentioned tournaments. Partly because the matches are so close and partly because we haven't been able to watch the matches thus far, and so we are guessing at what form the players are in...

Speaking of the Williams sisters, I'm glad Venus isn't here. She's one of my favorite players, but I'm tired of seeing her lose matches due to high error rates and stampedes of double faults -- it's always so disappointing.

It's clay, the matches are going to be closer considering most of the top girls don't play on it well. And since we haven't seen any coverage of these matches you can't just make the assumption that the matches were better compared to IW's or Miami. At least at those tournaments the surface was the same and they showed a minimal amount of coverage of both. With Amelia Island nothing has been showed this far, just fans hovering over scoreboards. You really can't tell the quality of a match from watching a scoreboard in my opinion.:)

not true, Ive been involved in some close matches that were definately less than pretty....

If you have two players spraying errors left and right.. double faulting left and right its def not entertaining... the crowd is more of less "awwing" all match long if they havent fallen aslepp.:help:

If Sharapova vs. Bondarenko is any indication, then this is a really high quality tournament. Players hanging around even in the winner/error ratio on clay is crazy. Plus, Sharapova hit 11 aces and really started to move better and impose her will on Alona as the match went on.

I dont think I've seen Bonderenko OR Cibulkova play at all, anyone give me a summary of their games? From what I've heard about Cibulkova she's like a Coetzer 2.0 maybe? Bondarenko - I'd guess big serve, solid groundies like Safina maybe? Any information would be awesome, they sound like exciting players.

4ZNTCVQReU8 - Cibulkova

Very nice girl and has a great personality and exciting game I think. Not too much power.

5CN5EWAssgU - Bondarenko

Bondarenko doesn't really have a big serve I think and her forehand is really good. She's very emotional on court.

ESPN2 dropped IW and Miami! They kept AI with coverage starting yesterday showing the war between Pova and Alona. It was great!

Today, Saturday, we get to see the Pova v Lindsay SF match. That will be a good match. Sunday the Final! It's so good to have Mary Jo and Cliffy doing the commentary.

This tournament features the "old timers": Lindsay doing very well, as expected really. Ame starting to play tennis with a QF finish and it was good to see her playing ok. In addition, it features the "youngsters" performing well: Cibulkova and Cornet play each other in one SF, Szavay and A. Bondarenko made the QF's and, of course, Pova plays Lindsay in the other SF.

2008 Amelia Island is a really good tournament!!!
