Sania Mirza To Have Wrist Surgery in USA

Posted on Apr 10, 2008

India’s Sania Mirza is scheduled to undergo an operation in the United States today to surgically repair her right wrist.

Her recovery is expected to take at least four weeks.

According to a Globosport press release and MSN India, Mirza’s decision to have surgery was influenced by a MRI scan which revealed damage to her hand.

“A recent MRI showed contusion of her lunate bone with some inflammation and a suspected tear in the volar capsule. She is undergoing arthroscopy to repair the capsule and to clean out debris formed from chronic inflammation,” wrote MSN India on Thursday. “Reknowned hand specialist Dr Badia will perform the surgery.”

The surgery will take place in Miami, Florida.

Damn. As TBE says at least it is during the clay season but that is still a bummer. Sania was out this time last year too so there was the chance to gain a few ranking points.

The last couple of days have just been a non-stop stream of bad news, ranging from sad to worrying to downright heartbreaking. I'm sick of it.

for the second year in a row, she is missing three months andmaybe even longer this time. i don't think 4 weeks is a realistic time frame.

US hardcourt season will prove
even more vital this time.

At least it's arthroscopic. That's actually a routine procedure for athletes. Four weeks isn't unreasonable. Hope she's back soon.

It's nearly inpossible I think to get operated on a joint and be on court playing competitive tennis only after 6 weeks, even if the surgery is in arthroscopy.

Good recovery Sania
