Lena has a good chance. Between Lena, Anna, Serena and Venus. Probably 3 of those are top 8.
Dani and Marion have a chance

i just hope Venus and Serena both end up in the top 8 somehow. Serena needs to play enough tournaments but iono about Venus.

Does anyone know if Venus doesn't play a single tournament b4 the French can she still stay top 8?

1. Henin
2. Ivanovic
3. Sharapova
4. Jankovic
5. Kuznetsova
6. Chakvetadze
7. S. Williams
8. Dementieva
9. V. Williams
10. Hantuchova

Hantuchova has semis at Rome to defend and she hasn't been playing well lately. Venus will drop Charleston points but can possibly make them up in Rome. Sharapova will certainly pass both Jankovic & Kuznetsova unless she ends up pulling out of tournaments.

You don't think Jankovic can defend? It's asking a lot.. but I think she can definitely do it.

its not about jankovic defending
but about how maria has very little points during the clay season
even if jankovic defends and maria goes deep
maria has more points on her platter
kind of like how serena dropped after miami

Right, I see your point. I guess it depends on how much Sharapova plays this claycourt season and how well she does. She's 300 pts behind Sveta and 400 behind Jelena. A jump in the rankings would save Sharapova from a possible QF matchup with Ana or Justine so I'm sure she's motivated to do well with the obvious benefit a high seeding would give her.

Right, even if JJ defended all the points she could, she'd probably have to win Berlin as well to stay ahead of Maria, assuming Maria goes ahead and plays Charleston, Berlin, & Rome like she's supposed to. As much as anyone wants to knock Maria's clay skills, she should be able to make the semis or better at all of those as long as she doesn't get some landmine draw or pull out early.

i think either way sharapova will be hoping for a good draw at the french, because she could face henin in the qtrs if shes 5-8, but then she could face serena in the qtrs if shes seeded 1-4. its all swings and roundabouts realy, theres 3 maybe 4 players masha would realy wanna avoid on the clay at the french.

as for jj i think she has a good chance of defending a lot of her points but i think it will leave her tierd for the french open.
