i am no fan of Ju but it was clear that she wasn't going to participate in this tournament from a long time

Justine's ranking is safe but the other three players in the top four have a lot to defend during the clay season especially Sveta and the other girl.I think the top ten will be different come Wimbledon.Maria might end up at no.2 before RG because Ana has to defend a Tier 1,JJ 2tier 1s,Sveta reached the latter rds at the big events so some will move up without playing.I see Serena moving up without playing much.

She has already indicated she will play there this year, though. It's a good decision beacause after withdrawing from Doha and Charleston, she needs to play some more Tier I events.

It isn't as bad as last year--so far. Last year--right before the tournament--Henin, Mauresmo, Kuznetsova, Sharapova, and Hingis withdrew. Then Serena got injured at the beginning of her first match, and Patty was taken out in her first match.
