View Full Version : Cibulkova - How Far Can She Go?

I think Cibulkova flies under the radar quite a bit. She isn't talked about too much when it comes to future champions. How far do you think she could go? I'm thinking top 5. :rocker2:

She can have a Smashnova like career, being a terror on clay, picking up some minor titles and getting around #15-#20.

Top 15?

I think she is a name that has been suggested as a rising star for about a year now but is yet to win a tour title or reach a tour final, although she did have some good chances in Guangzhou and Tashkent.
I think this will be her year finally to win a tournament, but it will be a smaller one. Maybe she could win a pre-Roland Garros tournament like Prague or Fes.

It's hard to say at this point, she only came to my attention when she beat Venus but she certainly seems to have potential. I'd say 15-20 at least.

She'll reach Roland Garros final this year, but she'll lose to Dementieva.:D

she'll do well to make top 20

Her progress especially on hardcourts over the last year has both surprised and impressed me. It will be very interesting to see how those improvements translate now she is back on her favourite surface. Early signs are excellent, beating Azarenka a player who has totally owned her in the past is a further indication of the rapid improvements in her game. For how long can she continue this rapid rate of improvement is something no one knows. It is still possible that she could be no more than a top 30 player, not that being a top 30 player isn't pretty damn good already or she could just keep getting better and better and eventually be a top 5 player. It is still to early to tell. Personally I would be delighted if it was the later. :)

Ok if i had make a guess I would say she will fall just short of the top 20 this year but she should eventually crack the top 20 and there stay there a while. She could get quite close to the top 10 too. But that's just a little guess, her career is yet to happen and it is still up to her and the fates as to where she will end up, not other peoples predictions.

top 20, she will beat players when there off their game or on the dirt and will have a few good runs at tier 2's and pick up a few tier 3/4 titles. she will also make the most of what shes got and thats all you can ask.

I describe Dominika as the "female Rafael Nadal", but her service game is more vulnerable than Nadal's, she must improve her serve a lot if she want to break into top 10.

I think top 20 is about right. She has a nice game but not spectacular. But I wouldn't be surprised if she snuck into the lower reaches of the top 10 at some point in her career.

She seems to be improving every week this year, finding herself. It'll be interesting to see, but given the types of players she's been able to beat and/or upsets she's been able to pull, I'd say she could be battling for a top 10 ranking in a year or two if she plays her cards right.

maybe top 10 ;)

I also see Domi making it into the top 20. She plays with a lot of feistiness and spunk out on the court.

I see her as modern version of Amanda Coetzer (another small girl who had to fight for everything). Probably won't be ranked as high, but lower end of top 10 is possible.

I hope she can rise around the 15-20th position, the progress during the last Months surprises me, she is rising very fast and you have to battle hard to win against Dominika, because she is fast and very strong in the defense, but I have see good improvement in the offensive game.

OsloErik

She's Coetzer sized, but players have better returns than they did 10 years ago. She could probably hit the top 15, maybe higher.

I can already tell she's going to be another Jankovic/Hingis/Clijsters/Chakvetadze in my back concerning any favorites I have in the future. Wouldn't be surprised if she went top five. Keeping the ball in court can really do wonders for your career. :o

she is fast and have games, sadly a bit short and lacks power. but top 10 are mostly dominated by above 6 ft tall girls. i think she can be in top 20.

Top 20 with her current game. She has the potential to make Top 10 but she would need to add more power to her game.

The back end of the Top 20, probably.

Keeping the ball in the court can only take you so far.

She might have luck with players around her getting injured and some cushy draws and get close to the Top 10, but I doubt it.

She doesn't impress me at all.

I did not think Chakvetadze would ever be top 10, so I do not know if I can predict Domi's future.

And Bartoli :spit:

She impresses me more than either Safarova or Kvitova do. And probably more than Schnyder too. And Schnyder was in Top 10.

Top 20 this year; Top 10 the next.

Domi is a very deceiving player.
Although the main thing about her game is being consistent, she does many things quite well.

She has amazing passing shots and an excellent drop shot.
Not only does she get the ball back deep, but she hits it pretty deep with a good amount of topspin.

She fights as hard as anyone, and returns quite well.
Not very many days is she going to beat herself.
If she can improve her serve a bit, that'd help a lot.

She should make the top 20 without too many problems.
Top 15 is quite possible.
Top 10 is a stretch, but she can do it.
Other defensive players have made it there lately.

If she can stay away from injuries, definitively top 10 within a couple of years. She is a very nice contrast to the ball bashing 6-footers coming up. She has improved so much in both power and consistency that I think she will be a really nasty opponent for the Senoritas Bollitieris that will come up. If Coria could reach top 5 in ATP, so can Cibulkova in the WTA.

My thoughts exactly. She'll be top 20 this year and crack the top 10 in 2009 or 2010.
She's smart and mentally strong.

If no injuries she have good chances to be long-time TOP15 player... something like Patty Schnyder or Amanda Coetzer without that 1997 TOP5 season. If we talking about tournaments, i think Roland Garros and new mandatory tournament in Madrid (red clay also) will be big events where she have best chances to reach semis or even final...

But i think that her best chance to be remembered in WTA history is - like player with most career 3+ hours long matches (her game style is perfect to produce very long matches) ever! So i will be first here who give her nick-name "MARATHON GIRL" ;).

Well, now that she's in the top 20 and has shown what she can do to 10-30 range players on hard courts, any reformed opinions? I still don't think top 5, but I think top 15 and lower top 10 is very possible.

Aug 8th, 2008, 07:36 PM
She will be the next Jelena, probably.

But the next era probably won't have such a void so I don't see her ever getting to #1. But top 5 for certain. Just like Radwanska. Being that consistent is absolutely enough to get to the top of the game these days, considering most of the top players have at least one error-fest per tournament. :tape:

Aug 8th, 2008, 07:38 PM
She's a great counterpuncher but her serve is way too weak. She might be able to pop into the top 10 like a Bartoli or Radwanska but nothing serious.

:spit: @ people saying top 5. No way in hell she has a top 5 game.

That is kind of mean.

Anyway, I think she's DEFINITELY a top 10 player. She's only 19 and she has already made to the top 20 and its only 7/10th of the season with one grand slam remaining. She reminds me of Sanchez-Vicaro in a way with those big strong thighs and quads (really sexy by the way) ... so yeah here's my two-cents.

She's not just good on clay. She was pretty impressive in Montreal. ;)
