When will Anastassia Rodionova and Jarmila Gajdosova be recognized as australians by the WTA tour.

several other girls have instantly changed

e.g.
Varvara Lepchenko from Uzbekistan to U.S.A
Eugenia Linetskaya from Russia to Israel
Greta Arn from Germnay to Hungary ( despite being born there)
Yevheniia Savranska from Israel to Ukraine ( and basically changed her whole name !!!!!!! )

any others ?
and whats up with Shikha and Neha Uberoi , sisters one representing U.S.A. and one representing India, how foolish ?

I suppose Anastassia and Arina will be like that soon !!

I was wondering about the above also (minus the foolish part).

What is the story of Lepchenko?

And the Uberois?

As to Lepchenko, she's received US citizenship through political asylum (presumably for persecution due to her Russian heritage, or so the wikipedia article on her asserts). But I remember an interview from Iroda saying that Lepchenko owed some debts to sponsors in Uzbekistan and she left as a result of that. Any further info on that?

for the girls to gain australian citizenship, they have to spend a certain amount of time in australia without leaving (9 months i think). as you can imagine, this is near impossible for a professional tennis player, hence why it hasnt officially happened yet.

I think I read somewhere that Rodionova has double citisenship,so she still did not resign her Russian passport...

Modern-day persecution in Uzbekistan of Russians?

Anybody else have more facts/details on Lepchenko?

I'm a bit confused regarding Rodionova too. In the AI draw she was stated as AUS yet the WTA is yet to change it...

So which is right? :p

I believe Neha is trying to change citizenship. I dont blame her. More popularity, sponserships, and money for them in India compared to the USA.

And Lepchenko has stated 1000 times that she was always picked on as a kid for being Russian and the Uzbek government got mad she defected and wouldnt let her mother come to the country for the longest time and kept the family seperated. Google her name and youll find plenty of articles stating so.
