Davenport Arrives In Antwerp

http://itn.co.uk/news/story874a769efb4bbc1ffb3e34faff0b6d12.jpg

Lindsay Davenport has arrived in Antwerp and is looking to build on her recent good form, which saw her win the title in Paris last week. Having achieved a decent but unspectacular 3-2 record in her first events in Australia, Davenport showed what she was truly capable of last week in Paris. Her title run included straight set wins over No.6 Nicole Vaidisova and No.2 Gisela Dulko, and a thrilling 3 set battle with No.8 Agnes Szavay to finish the tournament. Her performances last week have brought her a new career-high ranking of No.9.

"I'm very excited with all that has happened in the last week or so. I have gone from being a debutante to one of the top players in the world. Last week helped my confidence alot and I feel I deserve to be in the top 10. It was a good tournament to get my career started. I can now look forward to the rest of the year."

Despite winning last week, Davenport is unseeded in Antwerp, and has a 1st round match with Daniela Hantuchova.

"I'm a little disappointed not to be seeded but that tells me there is still alot of work to do. It's going to be difficult to try and keep my run going, I need to stay really focused. It's a different pressure now as I now expect myself to go deep into these draws. Daniela will be a tough opponent I'm sure.

Looming in the 2nd round is a potential clash with No.3 and Australian Open finalist Ana Ivanovic, or Jessica Moore. Ivanovic beat Davenport 6-0 6-1 at the Australian Open. Davenport has never played Moore, but the two didn't have the best meeting in Australia, when Moore refused to play doubles with Davenport, saying she was 'too old and slow'.

"I'm not thinking about the 2nd round yet but of course it's going to be a difficult match. Ana is a tough opponent for me as we've already seen. I'd rather play Jess after what was said in Australia a few weeks ago. I might be slow but I think I've shown I'm still a good player. I was a bit dissappointed when she said that but I've now got a good partner in Dominika, so it's all good."

In the doubles draw, Davenport and Cibulkova will start against Anna Chakvetadze and Daniela Hantuchova. It will be a re-match of last week's clash, which Davenport and Cibulkova won 7-6 4-6 6-2.

"I love playing doubles with Dominika. She is really nice, we get along great. Our games work so well together. I have the power and she has the speed. It's a good combination. With her being the world No.1 and Australian Open champion and me winning in Paris, I think we have the potential to do really well."

Olaru looking for first win.

http://www.wtnphotos.com/data/526/20070828_03_gyi0000626848.jpg

Ioana Raluca Olaru training back in Romania. The nineteen year old is coming to Antwerp in search of her first win on the OWTT tour, after losing in three sets in first round of both the Australian Open and in Paris. Joint last in the rankings so far, Ioana spoke to us about how she is hoping her season could turn around here.

"It hasnt been a great season for me. I have two matches, but lost both. I was pretty competitve, both went to final sets, and nearly won in Paris, but it wasnt to be. Its a learning curve. Tactically, I think im still learning. There are a few girls out there who are playing awesmoe already and its going to be hard to catch them up, but hopefully with a few wins under my belt I can climb the ranks"

"I face Salerni in the first round. I dont know much about but Im hoping she will be my first win. Youve got to start somewhere and Im hoping my wins will start know. It would be great to go deep in this tournament but very, very difficult. Well see though. Physically I feel fine, it just depends on how my game holds up against the rest"

Moore Fights Back

Antwerp, BELGIUM - Fearing that she has opened a can of worms, Australia's 17 year old whiz kid, Jessica Moore, has opted to take the front foot in her ''war of words'' with Lindsay Davenport. Having earlier retorted that Daveport was ''too old and slow,'' Moore was incensed by comments from Davenport here in Antwerp this week.
''At least my mouth isn't as big as my backside,'' Moore casually retorted to the media contingent present. ''Lindsay seems to talk the talk, but rarely walks the walk. I have already won two doubles titles this season, including the Australian Open and am the No.2 ranked doubles team with Nikki...I look forward to bringing the bitch down here this week.''

"Just really happy to be here in Antwerp. This city has so much history and is near lots of key WWII battles. So I like to come here to play tennis and to check out some of those sites. I love history. I'm looking forward to having a great clay season. I haven't started well this year, but after this tournament I'm really looking to change some things in my game. For now, I'm staying the course with my play, but will be looking forward to the competition here and for the remainder of the clay season."

Davenport & Moore to Clash

http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/41220000/jpg/_41220094_davenport300.jpg

Lindsay Davenport and Jessica Moore both won their opening matches in Antwerp today to set up a much anticipated 3rd round clash. Davenport defeated Daniela Hantuchova 4-6 6-2 6-3, while Moore upset 3rd seed Ana Ivanovic 0-6 6-0 6-0. The two have been involved in a 'war of words' through the media, which started in Sydney when Jessica said Lindsay was "too old and slow". Davenport has responded to Moore's most recent outburst.

"I'm not going to lower myself by insulting Jessica's apperance. I will let my tennis and my results to the talking. I have just won a title so I can 'walk the walk'. I beat Dulko, the same player Jessica lost to 3 times in a row! She has only achieved things in doubles with Nikki, and sooner or later Nikki will get fed up with her and she will be left with nobody to win matches for her."

Good Job Nicole. Take care of that bitch Capriati. You've been consistently making the quarterfinals and this is your chance to get back into the top 4.

Injured Golovin loses to Chakvetadze

The best player in OWTT tour, world number 5, Tatiana Golovin suffered an awful injury in her first match in Antwerp. The 20-year old seemed to have the match in control as she stormed to a 5-0 lead in the first set.Her opponent, Anna Chakvetadze, seemed to have no answers to Golovin's big serves and even bigger forehands.Tatiana was on fire and she looked confident when she stepped on the court to serve for the first set. This is the type of play Tatiana showed in Gold Coast, when she won the first ever tournament in OWTT tour, and this is why she is considerd as the best ever by many, many people. After hitting an ace to go 5:0,15-0, something horrible and unthinkable happend.Tatiana served a beautiful serve down the line and Chakvetadze hardly got her racket on the ball, but it was enough to hit the ball to Tatiana's side of the court.Tatiana ran to her forehand side when she slipped on the ball one of the ballboys dropped. She badly twisted her ankle and fell to the ground. The trainer was quickly called onto the court and she advised Tatiana to forfeit the match. But being the champion she is, Golovin decided to continue, even though she was unable to move. The match ended after an hour and 25 minutes, with Chakvetadze winning 7:5,6:4.

Tatiana Golovin sits on the floor after suffering an injury

A short interview with Tatiana after the match

Terrible way to end the match, Tatiana. How are you feeling?
"It's just awful. There are not enough words to explain how I'm feeling right now.I'm mad, sad, dissapointed, pissed off...I don't know, it's just wrong.I felt like I was playing really well and that I finally found my grove after losing to Bitch Sharapova in Paris, so yeah, it's just awful."

Who do you think is the favorite to win the title, now that you lost?
"I don't know really.Everyone, besides Vaidisova, obviously.Yeah, everyone except Nicole."

Why do you think Nicole can't win the title?
"Oh, that's easy. She's just not good enough. The only way she could win this or any other title for that matter, is if everyone tanks against her.Or if they're injured."

You refused to shake hands with Anna at the end. Why?
"She didn't deserve it.You know, I'm the player of this tour, everyone knows it.These bitches need to realize it's an honor playing against me, but they don't.When I was crying in pain, she kept practising her serves, she didn't even bother to come to my side of the court to see if I was ok.And also she kept shouting c'mons everytime I hit an unforeced error and I don't think that was nice.I mean I couldn't even move and she does something like that....I don't know it's awful. But the sad thing is I couldn't even move and yet I still won 4 games in the second set(laugh). So yeah, that just shows how awesome I am.Everyone should worship me.

What's your opinion on the war of words between Lindsay Davenport and Jessica Moore?
"Oh, I absolutely love it.You know all the girls on the tour are big fat bitches, but they're just afraid to speak their mind. That's why I admire both of them, they're fierce.Oh, and I'm not taking any sides, I just want them to bitch some more(laugh).

Do you have anything to say to the ballboy that caused this injury?
"Oh, I can't say anything without my lawyer. That bitch is going down."

Peer Passes to First Career Quarterfinal

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b241/FlamingoSpice/yes.jpg
Shahar Peer of Israel reacts after defeating Anna Chakvetdze in their second round match in the Proximus Diamdonds Tournament.

Isreal's Shahar Peer reached her first quarterfinal today after defeating Russia's Anna Chakvetadze in a marathon triple set match ending: 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 in favor of Peer. Peer finished the match off with 27 winners to 21 unforced errors with 8 aces to 2 double faults.

"I've been playing very consistant this week and I'm very excited to be in my first career quarterfinal. I'm just going to go out to the court and play my best tennis and hope it's enough. I'm not very worried about it."

The next opponent for the Israeli is Australian, Jessica Moore. Moore has recently been making headlines for her fowl mouth and trash talking her apparent rival, Lindsay Davenport. When asked on what she thought about Moore's immature behaivor, Peer simply replied.

"I think she's being very childish. Linds is a great person and I think it's sad that Jessica needs to resort to talking shit. Personally, if I were Linds and that skanky little brat told that to me, I'd slap her into next week."

Serena is doing well in Antwerp!

http://www.wtnphotos.com/data/506/e165e9ca-df4b-447d-b280-909b07d2f6de.jpg

After two terribly bad losses in first round of both singles and doubles tournament last week, Serena wanted to prove herself that she can play great and bounce back after showing some poor tennis display the week before.

Serena was still the 7th seed in Antwerp even if since the beginning of the season she's really shaky and not regular enough. Her first round challenge was the young rising star from Austria, Tamira Paszek.

This first round match was really weird. The first two sets were not really fun to watch, the girls were not winning the points, but losing them as they just were doing mistakes and mistakes. Serena won the first 6-2, but badly failed in the second that she lost 0-6. Third set was really entertaining, Paszek had MPs on serve at 4-5 in the third but a fearless Serena saved these MPs and never looked back to win the match in a third set tiebreaker.

1st round : (7) Serena Williams d. Tamira Paszek 6-2, 0-6, 7-6(4)

In the second round, the American was facing another really sexy player : Maria Kirilenko. The first two sets were exactly the same as against Paszek, many errors, Serena won the first 6-2 and got bageled in the second. But in the third set, Serena offered no chance the Kirilenko, Williams found the way to hit the lines shot after shot and outplayed her opponent during this final set to win the match and get to the QF.

2nd round : (7) Serena Williams d. Maria Kirilenko 6-2, 0-6, 6-2

In the quarterfinal, Serena will face the second player in the world from Argentina, Gisela Dulko. It should be atough match, but who knows, when Serena plays her best, she's unbeatable!

QF: (7) Serena Williams vs (2) Gisela Dulko

Serena Williams and Aravane Rezai also won a three set thriller in the first round of doubles against the pair formed by Mary Pierce and Jennifer Capriati!

Vamos.

Strong Vaidisova Moves On As Frail Golovin FLOPS Yet Again
http://www.ontennis.com/images/vai3_375.jpg
Nicole Vaidisova moved into her fourth straight quarterfinal today in a thriller against Capriati. After a disastrous start Vaidisova upped her level and began to play sublime tennis. Capriati was not one to go away and she battled to the end playing some of her best stuff. Unfortunately for Jennifer today her best wasn't good enough.Golovin who won a title at Gold Coast earlier in the year with a depleted draw suffered another shock loss and has struggled to win matches since the depth on tour has increased.

You didn't seem yourself in the first set?
Well yeah. One of the other girls in the locker room who shall remain nameless (laughs) had some really rude stuff to say about me just before my match. I tried not to think about it but it definitely made me lose focus on the match. After a quick first set loss I rebounded and the rest is history.

What did she say?
She pretty much made her intentions that she had her eye on Radek. I didn't respond to such childish behavior but if she tries something with Steppy Poo, I wont hesitate to slay a ho.

What do you have to say about the accusations that you paid the ball kid to drop balls on Golovin's side of the court?
I wont dignify that question with a response. All I will say is that when I was a little girl I was a huge Tonya Harding fan.

Don't you think it was nice to see how concerned Chakvetadze was over Golovin?
Not really. I certainly wouldnt have cared. I wouldnt have even walked over to check on her. Tati is a big girl and this a professional sport. No sense in whining about a little sore ankle. No one likes a whiner.

Any feelings about Golovin's recent verbal attack on your tennis ability?
Not really. Im still in the tournament and she is not. That proves a lot right there. She has a big mouth. She thinks she the fucking Ms Tatiana Golovin and quite frankly 4 year olds have better backhands.

Hingis is up next. How do you feel about that match up?
I am a little worried. Rumor has it Hingis is on the juice to get that extra power she never had, but I'm still confident in my abilities to pull out the win.

What do you think about the war of the words between Jessica Moore and Lindsay Davenport?
Well Lindsay seems really sensitive. Everyone knows she is old and slow so I don't get the big deal about Jess pointing it out. Obviously Jess made the right decision picking me as a doubles partner as we've been on a roll lately. Today Jess showed who was the better player and took Lindsay out.

You've been in good form lately and after some tough quarterfinal loses you don't seem phased at all.
Well I really have to thank my coach Kick Rocks for that. He has been supporting me all the way and with him in my corner I know I am capable of big things.

Q Round def Pierce 0-6 6-0 6-0
She started the match on hype and then everything went down the hill, does it the way she play on bed as well?

For someone who holds 1 ranking, she seems so fragile, thank goodness she has only play against me today, otherwise she wouldn't be sit at #1 ranking so soon and I am not too sure if she deserves this spot, again she is just so fragile!

R2 def Stosur 0-6 7-5 6-0
For goodness sake, please stop wearing that black ugly looking thing when you play tennis, no wonder she couldn't see properly! oh well perhaps that's the only endorsement that she could get! "to promote an UGLY BLACK SUNglasses!"

My comment about upcoming match

QF v [5] Vaidisova

Jessica PART 1

Antwerp, BELGIUM - Australian teen sensation today proved to the world that she is a force to be reckoned with. After last week making the Round of 16 in Paris, Moore came to Antwerp determined to progress further in the draw. In the first round, Moore overcame World No.3 Ana Ivanovic 0-6 6-0 6-0. In a dismal first set, the Aussie hit just 2 winners and 16 unforced errors. But she then turned the match around and exposed Ivanovic's flawed movement and weak backhand to run out an impressive 0-6 6-0 6-0 winner.

http://www.theage.com.au/ffximage/2008/01/16/tennis19_gallery__600x358.jpg (http://www.theage.com.au/ftimages/2008/01/16/1200419890401.html)

Jessica then fronted a highly excited media contingent, who fired some interesting questions at the 17 year old...here is an extract of the interview transcript.

MODERATOR: Questions, please
Q: So Jessica, impressive win today, what are your thoughts about the Davenport match-up?
JESSICA MOORE: Thanks. Well yeah, I'm sure you guys (the media) are going to talk this match up, create huge hype and controversy and stuff. But I mean, you will all be disappointed...Lindsay hasn't got the game to beat me.

Q: What makes you say that?
JESSICA MOORE: Well I am basically a younger, better version of her. I am fitter, move faster, have superior technique and I'm only still 17. How old is she again? 45?

Q: (laughs) There are other players out there that are now talking about your rivalry with Davenport, such as Peer, Golovin and your doubles partner Nicole Vaidisova. Peer has publicly called you a ''skanky little bitch'' what are your comments on that?
JESSICA MOORE: (Laughs) I think she must be attracted to women if she thinks I am ''skanky'' (laughs). I am certainly not here to simply be known for my looks, I am here to talk the talk and walk the walk in tennis. I feel sorry for the likes of Golovin, who feel the need to wear make up and red panties on court. Peer must really like that.
And I don't really see why you are calling Davenport my ''rival.'' We've never played, and when we do I will win every time.''

Jessica PART 2

Antwerp, BELGIUM - Jessica Moore's walking and talking through the Antwerp draw has continued after she disposed of Lindsay Davenport here today 0-6 6-1 6-3. In a terrible first set, Moore hit 24 unforced errors and 6 winners. But, as she did against Ivanovic, she hung tough and played flawless tennis to throw Davenport onto the scrap heap, claiming the last two sets 6-1 6-3. Tennis analyst, Mary Carillo, called the match.

''Moore played a smart second and third sets. She threw in drop shots, lobs, slices and make Davenport look like a child. Moore has an effective first serve, powerful forehand and reliable backhand. She is indeed a superior player to Davenport. I like her trash talk to the media. She is basically saying, 'I'm savvy, I'm good, I'm here to stay...watch me!' ''

After the match, Moore had to then back up and play doubles with Nicole Vaidisova against Natalie Dechy and Shahar Peer. Unfortunately, the pairs 7 match unbeaten run was ended 6-0 0-6 6-2 by the older, more experienced duo. Still, with there Australian Open and Paris titles, Moore and Vaidisova are a force to be reckoned with.

Later in the day, Moore had another of her (now infamous) interiews...here is an extract of what she had to say;

http://www.theage.com.au/ffximage/2008/01/14/tennis14_gallery__546x400.jpg (http://www.theage.com.au/ftimages/2008/01/14/1200159364951.html)

MODERATOR: Questions please.

Q: Jessica, congratulations on your win today. Did the match go as you planned?
JESSICA MOORE: Well obviously no it didn't. Lindsay was running faster than I'd ever seen her in that first set. She was almost as fast as a wounded wallaby. But I think it's obvious that she was trying so hard that she forgot tennis is more than just one set. I used this to my advantage and played much better tennis to win the last two sets 6-1 6-3.

Q: So it's still not a rivalry between you two?
JESSICA MOORE: No, I don't think so. I mean I am the better player and today reflects that. Now having played her, I think I will beat her even more easily the next time we play. Where the the rivalry in that?

Q: Shahar Peer next, she just beat you in the doubles, your thoughts on this one?
JESSICA MOORE: Nikki and I felt sorry for Peer. I mean, she's attracted to skanky women, so we wanted to be off the court as soon as possible. We also felt she needed some sort of physcological boost before I confine her to the doubles court tomorrow. But we werec clearly robbed in that match. We led 2-0 in the final set when the umpire called the score as '4-2, Dechy/Peer.' We were so incensed and lobbied for the score to be changed, but to no avail. We really despise Mariana Alves too now, I know how you feel Serena!

Q: Martina Hingis has had some vulgar things to say about Nicole with Radek Stephanek, what do you have to say about that?
JESSICA MOORE: Well Hingis has always had a big mouth. It's happened before and it's going to happen again. I think she's just jealous that Nikki is happy and found security in a man that she herself was once engaged to. I mean, wouldn't you be jealous if your future husband dumped you for a younger better looking woman?

Q: There is a lot of bitching amongst the players at the moment, your thoughts?
JESSICA MOORE: (Sigh). Nikki and I are the original and the best bitches on tour. People are finding the need to compete with us off the court because they know they can't beat us on the court. That makes Nikki and I disrespect them. We really admire the likes of Cibulkova, Dulko and Ivanovic who are the top three players in the world. For us, they are inspirational women.

Close match in the end between our #4 and #5. Dementieva was just too strong in the later stages of the third, and she moves onto her first ever final. Vaidisova is playing consistently well on tour, which has seen her firmly establish herself as a threat on the tour, but she needs to find that little extra which will push her to title wins. Good match!

   Just wow!!! Peer completely thrashed Dulko here - her gameplan fitted perfectly! Had the CT order gone the other way, Peer would have still won it in straight sets, so that shows just how well she is playing right now. She moves on to her first ever final as well, and makes sure that we will have a debut winner yet again on the OWTT tour. But, another semi for Dulko, and she will returnto the #1 spot at the end of this tournament.

Shahar Sails to First Career Final

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b241/FlamingoSpice/hardy.jpg
Israel's Shahar Peer reacts after defeating (2) Gisela Dulko in their semi-final match in Antwerp.

Israel's Shahar Peer is not only your average outspoken player on the tour, she backs up what she says with her incredible game. Peer has become only the second woman in OWTT history to reach both the singles and doubles match. The last woman was Ana Ivanovic at the Australian Open.

Recently Peer has been one of many players involved in media spats, most have been with tour wannabe diva, Jessica Moore. However, Moore was outshown by the sharp shooting Israeli who knocked her out in both singles and doubles. Peer who was very bubbly after her quarterfinal match said:

"It was a very tight match. I think we went out there and played great tennis. I have nothing against Jessica, all of the players talk a lot of trash and I think it's just the nature of the sport. It's all in good humor and I'm very happy to get good wins under my belt."

Hours later, Peer got the biggest win of her career when she stunned world's number two, Gisela Dulko, when she beat her in straight sets; 6-2, 6-1. After squandering 2 match points, Peer made Dulko fight to stay in the third match point but she closed out the match with a fierce forhand winner up the lines.

"I was simply amazed. I couldn't believe it. I played so consistantly throughout the match and I think that the level of my tennis has definently been raising and I feel like I can give Elena (Dementieva) a fight in the finals, even if she's kicked my ass everytime we've played." Peer joked.

(1)Ivanovic/Schnyder def. Dechy/Peer 6-0 6-0 :o

Congratulations to the #1 seeds who take their 3rd title out of 5 tournaments, with another dominant week, although Aga/Caro came very close in the SF match, taking the champs to 7-5 in the third. Good week for Dechy/Peer, too, making their first final. Peer will have a short rest before the singles final.

Peer def. (4)Dementieva
6-3 2-6 6-2*

Peer's amazing streak continues as she takes out the #4 seed in great style. The CT order was decisive though - ad it been the other way round, Dementieva would have won in a 3rd set tie-break, but she cannot complain as she only made the final by virtue of 2 CTs going her way. Great week for both! Another debut winner on OWTT! The underdog turns the tables on her higher ranked oponent and overturns a 0-2 H2H - well done Shahar :worship:

Shahar Gets the Last Laugh Over Elena

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b241/FlamingoSpice/title.jpg
Shahar Peer of Israel holds up her trophy after defeating (4)Elena Dementieva in the finals of Antwerp.

Although they are good friends, Israel's Shahar Peer and Russia's Elena Dementieva have no problem putting their friendship aside when they step out on the court against each other. Today we saw the duo play in their third match of the season but this time it would be the biggest part of a tournament they've ever played, the championship match.

Dementieva who has a 2-0 head to head career against Peer was the favorite of the two, as she was the fourth-seeded player of the tournament. However, the fiesty Israeli never gave up and stunned the Russian to pick up her first career singles title. She won in a tough three setter: 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 which lasted an hour and 47 minutes.

"I'm so excited that I won! It's been an amazing week and I worked really hard to get this far and I'm very happy with my result. I've been picking up the level of my game and it's really paid off. Elena played a great match and she should be proud of her progress. I'm just very happy that I won. I can't wait to see how I do next week."
