Just to prove how popular Sam is, there are currently 73 people viewing the TA and NZ forum, more than any other forum on the board at present. Of these 73 people, 42 are viewing the Stosur sub-forum, more than for any player throughout the Aussie Summer, and more than the Dokic sub-forum had during the AO Playoff

:yeah:

But I don't see her on the entry list for the 100k in France from 14 April...maybe it's the week after?? Confusing Courier Mail report  :o

Stosur given OK on injured shoulder

By Paul Malone
March 22, 2008

QUEENSLANDER Sam Stosur will test her recovering right shoulder at a Challenger tournament before she makes a planned WTA Tour return in May.

Stosur consulted a specialist in Melbourne this week, who decided she did not need surgery on an injured shoulder that has further delayed her intended comeback this month from a virus.

Stosur's coach David Taylor said the Rome event starting on May 12 was now pencilled in for her intended WTA comeback.

"The good news is the doctors think surgery isn't necessary; the bad news is they thought it would have progressed further," Taylor said.

"So she is still practising for her return. If she can serve 50 serves without pain - she's doing 20 - she'll start back in the third week of April.

"She only gets eight tournaments in 12 months with her protected ranking, so she has to choose them wisely."

:wavey:

Sam is on the entry list for the 25k in Palm Beach Gardens in the USA from April 14 :woohoo: She has the tournament listed as her first preference and is currently No.3 on the entry list. Looking at the entry list, it looks like she will still be seeded, even when the Miami and Amelia Island points come off :hearts:

HOPE TO SEE HER MAKE HER COMEBACK HERE :bounce:

You know, unlike Molik, I think Stosur will be back with a bang. She has taken her time getting back into training and made sure she will be 100% when she returns to competition. Everything she has done has wreaked of professionalism and I am looking forward to a successful return :yeah:

Ben.

Smart decision from Sam. It doesn't hurt for her to play a couple of matches on the ITF circuit & it will really give her some good match practice which might help her get back into the swing of things.

Good luck Sam

Stosur will be the top seed coz Muller will withdraw. Also Keothavong will withdraw coz shes in Europe isnt she? and Johansson has it as her 3rd priority. So Ferguson will be 3rd seed. Stosur should own this tournament.

Looking at the entry list, it is pretty weak. There arn't much people who could trouble Sam if she was playing at 50%. I have a feeling she will be really pumped to get out there and have a good crack at the title.

The only player I would be half worried about are Asia Muhummad, Sesil Karatancheva (depends what Sesil turns up), Madison Brengle and maybe...Tatishvili, but really if Sam really has any sort of motivation, should beat all of these players.

Glad that Sam has decided to add another ITF event to her schedule. Its for the best that she plays those two lower tier events in order for her to get some serious match play going into Rome & RG. I don't think it would of been enough if she had just played Dothan before Rome.

I can't believe you guys are actually afraid of sam possibly playing qualies
I mean its much better if she gets plenty of matches under her belt (even if she does plenty on the ITF circuit - might not get many on the ITF's, but she should) by playing qualies. Much better than being in the MD & drawing henin first up with very little matchplay.

Very true... But Sam usually plays better when her oppenent is better... That made no sense... I just think it would be better for her to lose in MD than lose in quallies... Not that she will :p But I mainly just want to see her on tv so I am a little bais

well i won't be too concerned if she loses in the qualies. reason is only because it will take her time to get her game up & running & she will have losses, she's not gonna start off at 100% straight away (even maybe to those who she is suppose to win against).

im just being realistic.

Well TBE said in GM that she can't use her SR for any Grand Slam...
This means she will be in quallies OR get the wildcard...

I am certain you will all find that Sam is a shoe in for the FO wildcard, along with Wimbledon if she needs it. The special ranking cannot be used for Slams and that is why she is not on the entry list.

The special ranking can be used for the slams, but not all of them.
Here's what the official rules say:
A player who misses a minimum of three (3) Grand
Slams during her mandatory out-of-competition
period may enter a maximum of one (1) Grand Slam
using her Special Ranking as part of her eight (8)
Special Ranking Tournaments.

but that doesnt apply to sam... because she didnt miss 3 slams while injured, she cant use it for any slams now

So Sam has eight WTA or ITF tournaments where she can use her special ranking (No.36) in (excluding the slams):
- Rome
- Olympics
?
?
?
?
?
?
What other tournaments do you think she'll enter with her special ranking.

I doubt she would use her special ranking for ITF events.

I think:
- Rome
- Birmingham
- San Diego
- Los Angeles
- Beijing Olympics
- Bali
- Tokyo (Toray)
- Tokyo (AIG)

This is providing she doesn't get wildcards for these tournaments :)
