GOLOVIN DEF. SHARAPOVA 6-1 5-7 6-0

 It was almost a complete whitewash for Golovin at 6-1 5-0 up, but as in her last match, Sharapova used every ounce of strength to fight back and grab the second set 7-5. But, she seemed to have nothing left after her huge fight in the second, as Golovin raced through it 6-0. Golovin repeats her exhibition win over Sharapova, but can she go all the way here?

After an easy 1st set for Dementieva, these two fought tooth and nail for every point, treating the crowd to a great couple of sets of tennis in the 2nd & 3rd sets, but it was Dementieva who took her chances on the big points, and finds herself in the semis. Good match!

Bitches were on Serena's way!

http://www.wtnphotos.com/data/506/21239381538serena.jpg
Serena didn't car about winning in the third set hitting to Radwanska's body was the match plan

Today was a crappy and shocking day for all the fans of Serena Williams. She played two matches, the first in single against Agnieszka Radwanska and the second in doubles against a team composed of Maria Sharabitchpova and Samanslutha Stosur.

Let's talk about the first match, against the Polish girl. A fit Reena got on court today, but a bad umpire came with her on court. Serena started the first points of the match powerfully, she had a GP at 40-30 in the first game, she hit an ace on it, the American screams a loud "C'mon", but the stupid umpire overules it. Serena just couldn't believe it, she got to him and asked him (not politely) to get down on the court and see the mark, but the answer was no. Serena then double faulted 3 times in a row to get broken. Serena was out of her, she was really angry and wasn't patient for the rest of the set, sometimes it gave great shots, sometimes it was horrible, she lost the first set 4-6.

In the second set, we could see that Reena was stronger, fitter simply better than Radwanska. She played smart tennis and gave Radwanska no chance to win the second set. Reena took it 6-3. Then the little bitch inside of this Polish teen girl came out, she decided that she had back pains and that she had to go out of the court for treatments for something like 12 minutes. Serena kept hitting serve for something like 5 minutes and complained to the umpire for the other 7 minutes, saying that this break was simple cheating and that she showed 0 sign of injury during the two first sets.

Aga finally arrived, Reena crossed her to get to her side of the court and she whispered her a little "It was time..." But at the end, this stupid strategy worked out well, Serena kept trying to hit Radwanska with the ball for the rest of the third set instead of trying to win points. Serena still managed to win 3 games! Radawanska won the match 6-4 3-6 6-3... Serena didn't shake hands at the end.

http://71.img.v4.skyrock.com/712/wozniakfan/pics/1637825750.jpgAravane Rezaï and Serena Williams were definitely stolen a win today against a real bitchy team

The doubles match was as intense as the single match! The first set was thing of Serena and Aravane. There was nothing exceptional in it, the Americano-French team dominated it with their heavy volleys and strong serves. They won it 6-3.

In the second set, wind came up in the match and seemed to disturb Ree and Arav. Ball tosses were ugly for both of them but the team of bitches there were playing against didn't seem to be disturbed by it... Plus Arav and Serena seemed to be really insulted by the attitude of their opponents, they were almost always laughing while Ree and Arav where serving, and making noise to make it even harder for them to concentrate. Rezai and Williams let the second set slip away 1-6.

In the third, the team composed of two great tennis players (Rezai and Williams!) led 4-3 but Sharabitchpova asked her father with hand signs to make his cellphone ring while Aravane was serving a second serve on BP, she DFed and gave away the break lead. At 4-5, Serena and Rezaï played a terrific point on a MP-GP (cause of the no-ad games), they made an unblievable forehand down the line to make it 5-5, but the bitches complained to the umpire, Sharabitchpova told him "I'll give you something after the match but overule the call and make them lose" So the umpire did hit. Reena spitted in Maria's face and quitted Gold Coast as mad as she never had been before!

Venus Breaks Her Silence
http://www.wtnphotos.com/data/3502/venus.jpg

With the first event in OWTT under way in Gold Coast, Australia, many of the top named stars have been out in full force with interviews, charity events and many other social events thus far. Everyone, that is except Venus Williams.

You see, although Venus won both of previous matches in fine form here in Gold Coast, she is nursing a sinus infection that just does not seem to be getting better. She is still considering pulling out of the event if she just can't play, but promises that if she is even 50% she will try.

"Ohhhhh, I'm sick as a dog. I have seasonal allergies and they are kicking my butt right now. Everyone's partying and all and you better believe I'm jealous. I've been hearing about all the crazyness Serena has been stirring up, and I'm like wow, why do I always miss the good stuff. For now I just have to stay in my hotel room, taking my legal medications in order to get better for my matches.

http://www.wtnphotos.com/data/3502/venus1.jpg

Next up for Venus is Gisela Dulko of Argentina who is sure to give her a challenge tomorrow for a spot in the final.

Golovin survives scare

Tatiana Golovin wasted many chances before closing out her QF match against Maria Sharapova.

http://www.javno.com/slike/slike_3/r1/g2007/m04/x73138385711140756.jpg

Golovin comfortably won the first set by 6:1 and raced to a 5:0 lead in the second set, before almost falling apart.Maria Sharapova won 7 consecutive games to secure the 2nd set.Tatiana looked dejected after losing the set and complained about the noise coming from her opponent.
"Everyone knows Maria grunts really loud, but I think that was a bit too much. She basically screamed her lungs out everytime she hit a ball.I told the umpire he should interfere but he said she wasn't that loud.I was so upset," said the Frenchwoman.
After failing to convert several chances, it looked like Maria is ready to win the match. But the young and talented Tatiana Golovin was having none of it.She steamrolled through the decisive set without dropping a single game.
"That was a horrible lead to waste.I mean I was 6:1,5:0 up, I was sure I got this match. It was one of the worst chokes ever, I just don't know what happend.Grunting or no grunting, I should've won it in 2. After losing the second set I just remember thinking that I'm gonna be packing my bags in no time, there was no confidance let," the disappointed player added."I called for my coach at the end of the second set, and that really helped me to concentrate on the match. He just told me to stay calm and play my game, and not worry about what my opponent was doing. It sounds easy, but believe me, it's much, much harder than it sounds. But my coach and I have a really good partnership, so I trust him 100%."
When asked what went through her head when she took a 5:0 lead in the decisive set, Golovin responded:"Well, I was thinking to myself here we go again (laugh).Yeah it was a bit of a deja vu, considering the fact I lead 5:0 in the second and somehow managed to lose it, but I kept saying to myself, that this is my chance to prove I'm no joke and I don't give up easily.I was really agressive in the last game and I'm happy I got through in the end."

A short interview with Tatiana after the match

Did you see Serena spitting on Maria in their doubles match?
"(laugh)Yeah I heard something about it, but I didn't actually see it.I don't know what to say, I'm sure Serena was upset with Maria, it was all a bit weird.Don't wanna go too much in to that, sorry"

Was the grunting really that disturbing?
"I mean yeah it was, but still it's no excuse why I didn't win the match in 2.I got a bit tight and started hitting some stupid errors, and Maria hit some unbelievable shots.Yeah, I don't know.I guess it's only disturbing when I'm losing (laugh). But no, seriously, she should be a bit quieter out there."

You beat her in the exhibiton too, right?
"Yeah, I did, so I was very confidant going into the match.I knew I can beat her if I stick to my game plan. She's a very good player, so a good victory huh?"

Definitely. You're playing Elena Dementieva in the SF.What are your expectations?Do you think you can go all the way?
"Well hopefully I can play as well as I did today.Withoug choking of course.I don't think she played the exhibiton tournament, so it's gonna be a bit tougher tomorrow, cuz I don't know her game.I don't know if I can win the tournament, it would be great if I could, but I'm not sure.I have to win tomorrow first, so we'll se what happens.Elena is a great player, but so am I and we're both having a great tournament so far, so I'm expecting a good match."

So, what's your opinion on the tournament and the tour itself?
"Umm, it's great.I'm having so much fun and great results too. It's so beautiful here in Gold Coast, so yeah it's all good. The tour is amazing too, there are many good players out there.Champion88 is doing a really good job so far, I think all the players are enjoying themselves."

What are your goals for the rest of the season?
"Oh, that's a bit too early to tell.My main goal is to play well and stay healthy, that's all I'm hoping for."

Shafanovic.

Sharapova Went 2-1 On First Day

http://www.abc.net.au/reslib/200701/r123043_397889.jpg

After winning the first match in Gold Coast, she lost in the Quarterfinals to Tatiana Golovin.
The first set, was completely Golovin's dropping one game to take the set 6-1, when Sharapova couldn't return a firing forehand

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/4/41/Maria_Sharapova_2007_Australian_Open_R2.jpg/220px-Maria_Sharapova_2007_Australian_Open_R2.jpg

Teh second set was Golovin's as she was up 5-0, but let that slip and Sharapova once again showed her fighting spirit. She won the next 7 games to take the second set, when she hit a firing ace to the "T".

http://img179.imageshack.us/img179/4227/fulljgetty73525368mw037vb6.jpg
http://photos.killervirgo.com/ozzieopen-maria.jpg

But that last serve on set point looked like it tweaked Sharapova's shoulder as she troubled on her serve and returns. She couldn't win a game and lost the match 1-6 7-5 6-0.

http://www.australianopen.com/images/pics/large/b_sharapova_0127.jpg

Interview after match

A bad loss today, what happened in the third set?
Well.. I don't know, when I served that ace on set point, my shoulder started hurting and I called my trainer at the changeover. He told me to retire, but I told him, I'm a fighter. I will fight till the end.

Well, according to Golovin, she lost the second set because of your grunts, or shrieks.
ohhh, she said that.. Well maybe it was that 2nd set lead she let go. Maybe she got angry.. Well she is a sore loser, she just wants to dominate, just losing a set and already a sore loser, or in this case, a sore winner. Anyway, how did she win the first and third set, I was grunting then too.

She complained to the umpire about that.
The grunt?

Yes, she said that the umpire told her it's okay.
Well... if it wasn't too loud for the umpire, then it shuoldn't be too loud for her. He is always closer to me than she is. It's either the umpire is a bit deaf or maybe she just have super hearing.

Did you get that shoulder checked?
Yeh, they said that it will be okay and I can keep playing. And I want to focus on the doubles and do well for Samantha's [Stosur] sake and mine.

What are you gonna work on to improve for the rest of this year?
Well I'm gonna work on my fitness and I'm going to try my best and hopefully not get injured.

What are your goals for this year?
Umm.. winning a title and beating Tati more than once in a row.

Maria Sharapova fared better in the doubles, partnering Samantha Stosur, they won her match against Serena Williams and Aravane Rezai. After losing the first set, they regrouped to take the second, by only dropping 1 game, to take it 6-1, the third set although was a battle but it was Sharapova and Stosur, with the help of the home crowd, who came out on top to make it to the Semifinals. Winning 3-6 6-1 6-4, to the delight of the Australian crowd.

Radwanska def. Serena 6/4 3/6 6/3
Radwanska lost to Dulko 6/0 6/7(4) 3/6

Q: Welcome Agnieszka! Gola Coast it's your 1st event in this tour. How are you

A: Hello everyone! I'm fine, thanks. I didn't play in exibition matches, so I'm fresh and hungry for succes!

Q: What do you think about your performance here?

A: In my 1st match I bet Serena Williams. That was amazing, because Serena is my favourite player and I love her. That's a really great experience. My 2nd match was strange. I won 1st Set 6/0 then I comeback from 2/5 to 6/6, but lost 2nd set and all match. I don't know how this poor player was able to do that. I don't understand it.

Q: You still play in doubles. Do you have a chance to beat Sharapova/Stosur?

A: I dunno, but personally I believe that tennis is tennis, so everyone could beat everyone. I'm going to play in doubles with Carolina Wozniacki, my best friend. We hope that we'll do some damage here, but it will be very difficult. Sharapova is great player and Stosur is local favourite.

Q: Can you say something about your goals for this season?

A: I want to play in YEC and advanced to Grand Slam semifinal. I know I'll do it!

Gisela gave the surprise in Gold Coast

http://img.emol40.elmercurio.com/2007/09/19/File_200791915149.jpg

The Argentine Gisela Dulko qualified to the final of Gold Coast's tornament on having conquered the American Venus Williams in 3 sets: 0-6 6-4 6-0.

In the final she will look for the title when she faces the French Tatiana Golovin, that won Dementieva in 3 sets.

"I am very happy with my performance in the tournament , not all the days one can win against players how Williams or Ivanovic" said Gisela then of the match.

The argentina also talked about his opponent in the final : "It is going to be a hard match, in this stage all the players are difficult but I am going to try to enjoy "

Steaming Stosur and Smashing Sharapova rolls on to final

http://www.smh.com.au/ffximage/2007/08/28/stosur_wideweb__470x312,0.jpghttp://img162.imagevenue.com/loc117/th_67603_r586605033_122_117lo.jpg

The combination of Maria Sharapova and home crowd favourite Samantha Stosur has pleased the crowd with a win in the semifinals to make it into the finals.

They started off well, with all four players holding their serves and 2-2. But that's when all changed and the momentum shifted to Radwanska and Wozniacki. They won the next 4 of 5 games to take the set 6-3 when Sharapova hit a backhand volley into the net.

http://img144.imagevenue.com/loc19/th_67622_r3744849188_122_19lo.jpg

Sharapova called in the trainer at the change over when she wanted to check things up on the shoulder problem, that she got yesterday. But that set went fine from the Stosur/Sharapova team as they dropped only one game, and took the second set 6-1 when Sharapova hit a left handed lob over Wozniaki's head to the delight of the crowd.

http://img175.imagevenue.com/loc260/th_67603_capt.camt12303120335.indian_wells_tennis_ camt123_122_260lo.jpg

They continued this same tradition in the third set, when they raced to a 5-0 lead, but Radwanska and Wozniacki fought back to get to 5-2 but it wasn't enough as the spirit of the crowd helped Stosur and Sharapova to win the match 3-6 6-1 6-2, when Sharapova hit an ace out wide, and move into the finals.

http://img158.imagevenue.com/loc70/th_04198_r3309044829_122_70lo.jpg

In the finals, they will face a lethal combination of Patty Schnyder and Ana Ivanovic.

Golovin reaches final

http://www.tribuneindia.com/2005/20050213/sp3.jpg

Tatiana Golovin came from a set down to beat the feisty Russian Elena Dementieva. The tall Russian won the first set by 6:3, before Tatiana raced through the second by 6:0.The Frenchwoman started stronger and broke her opponent to lead 2:0, but Dementieva quickly fought back to level the match at 2 games all.But after that it was a one-way traffic as Tatiana won 4 of the last 5 games. The final score 3:6,6:0,6:3.Tatiana next faces Argentinian Gisela Dulko in the final.

A short interview with Tatiana Golovin

Talk about the match today.
"Umm a tough three set obviously. We both had our chances, but I think I was a bit luckier on the important points.Yeah, Elena is a very tough competitor, so I knew it will be a tough match and I never played her before, so a very good victory for me."

Your final opponent is Gisela Dulko.Do you think you beat her and win the title?
"Of course I can beat her, but I don't know if I will.I played her before in the exhibition tournament, and I think I won that in 3...so, yeah if I play as well as I did so far I'm positive I can win."

Maria Sharapova said you're a sore winner.
"(laugh)Why?"

Because you accused her of grunting too loud in your match.
"Oh, because of that.Well, I've got no regrets, I said what I said, and I absolutely stand by my words. She also claimed she had a sore shoulder, I mean puh-lease."

She also said one of her goals for the rest of the season is beating you more than once in a row.
"God, stop it with Maria already. The world doesn't revolve around her, I don't care what she said.Sometimes you journalists are so stupid.I mean I just reached a final and you're here asking me about Maria?Jesus, GET IT TOGHETER!"

One more question...
"...No, that's all.I don't feel like talking to you guys anymore.I have to prepare for the finals.Wish me luck.Bye."

GOLOVIN DEF. DULKO 6-0 5-7 6-0

Well, Dulko got off to her typically slow start, and did well to fight and keep in the second before snaeking it, but Golovin effortlessly powered her way home in the end - Congrats to Golovin on winning the first ever OWTT Tournament! She has to thank Peer for entering late though and taking out Hantuchova, who would have beaten her. And as for Dulko..... she probably wants to kill Peer, as she would have gone all the way and beaten Hantuchova in the final!

Golovin crowned champion

French tennis player Tatiana Golovin won the first title in the OWTT tour.In the Gold Coast final she beat Gisela Dulko of Argentina in three sets, 6:0,5:7,6:0.The 20 year old Tatiana started strong and took the first set by 6 games to 0.It looked good for the beautiful French, but a lapse of concentration and some good play by her opponent, and the score was tied by a set a piece, after Gisela took the second set by 7:5.But the French star was to strong in the decisive set as she breezed through it by 6:0.

An interview with the champion Tatiana Golovin

Congratulations, Tatiana. How does it feel to be the first winner in OWTT?
"Thanks.Yeah, it feels great, obviously a great accomplishment, so yeah I'm very happy.I'll always be remembered as the first winner(laugh).I'm just so happy right now and overwhelmed with emotions."

Talk about the match a bit.
"Well, it was very difficult out there.I mean, I played really well, amazing actually, in the first set, and then my opponent came back from the dead to win the second. So I got a bit nervous before playing the third, but I kept my cool and won the match."

But the score is a bit unusual isn't it?
"Unusual?Hm, I don't know, I guess you could say so.I mean, that's tennis, anything can happen, so you take it as it comes.I'm not too worried about the score.I won, that's all that matters."

What do you think about your opponent today?
"A very good player, yeah. She had a great run here and so did I.But all my opponents were amazing. It was a tough tournament."

You weren't playing doubles here, right?
"No, no, I wasn't.I wanted to concentrate on the singles a bit more, cuz I thought I could do well, so I guess I made the right choice."

What's next for you?
"I'm going to Sydney now.Hopefully I can continue my great form and go far in the tournament."

A big party coming up?
"For sure.I'm throwing a huge party to celebrate this great week, all the players are invited, I think we'll have a good time."

Is Sharapova invited?
"(laugh)Of course.I mean I know we weren't getting along that well here, but I've got nothing against her.We just both spoke our minds, and that's it."

Can you make a short summary of this week for us?
"Yeah.I had a blast here in Gold Coast, and I hope to come back next year to defend my title. The organization was great, and the stadiums were always packed, which is always nice to see.I like playing in front of full house."

Any final words?
"Yeah, I just want to thank my fans, who were amazing this week.Thank you guys for all your support, you're the best.Hopefully I can continue winning titles and make you guys proud. And I want to thank my great coach Marko, he's just the best coach I ever worked with, so yeah, thanks for all the effort. You're truly amazing."

Thanks, Tatiana and good luck in Sydney.
"Thanks, guys."
