"The French media are the best at putting pressure on you."

"I told the federation that I won't play the Olympics this year"

"I don't like Beijing as a city, so it's not hard for my real goals, and for me it's to play the one at Wimbledon in 2012. I won't miss that one for anything in the world."

"The new generation is coming up and Amelie [Mauresmo] won't play beyond another two or three years and I will be the No. 1."

http://www.********************/blog_indian_wells_031208.html

BARTOLI DAD WOULD LET HER GO TO FED CUP WITH HIM

Marion Bartoli, the No. 6 seed, isn't playing Fed Cup or the Olympics, joining Andy Roddick as a notable player on the sidelines. France's top player hasn't done much since reaching the Wimbledon final behind a quarter here and a semi there, but she's not totally unhappy with the way her game has gone.

However, she is not a player who likes to be put into intense situations. In some ways, you could imagine her back home in Switzerland with her paints and easels, conjuring up another idea for the canvas. She just finished another oil painting, this one with a very young boy and girl in black and white clasping hands and looking for hope, which they see the sole color in the piece: a long stemmed red rose. Bartoli has 10 paintings that she likes and that are hung in her home.

"It's like on the court, I'm also crafty," she said. "There's even an artistic part of me going on in me, but I think I'm a better tennis player than painter. I don't want to have a show though … only for fun."

The double two-hander also has difficulties with the French press, whom she thinks expects too much of her. It's a double-edged sword, though. If there are expectations that means that analysts think you are good. If not, you aren't worth writing about, and that can lead to a great deal of sadness, too.
"The media expected me to play well in Australia be in the semis or the final and it's hard to deal with it," she said. "The French media are the best at putting pressure on you."

Bartoli will not compromise with the French Tennis Federation when it comes to the inclusion of her father, Walter, as her coach on national teams. So there will be no trip to Beijing this year and no Fed Cup. But she believes that next year a compromise could be in the offing.

"I told the federation that I won't play the Olympics this year and it's hard anyway to put the Olympics in my schedule, to go from Wimbledon, to Montreal, to Beijing and back to the US Open. I don't like Beijing as a city, so it's not hard for my real goals, and for me it's to play the one at Wimbledon in 2012. I won't miss that one for anything in the world.

"We have to talk with all the players and try to find a solution, I'm only 23. There is a solution. They will compromise. The new generation is coming up and Amelie [Mauresmo] won't play beyond another two or three years and I will be the No. 1. We can find a solution so I can play one or two years. I love playing for my country the most. Anything is possible. But I need my best possible preparation and that means I need my dad."

Marion says that her dad did offer to back away at times, but she definitively does not want him to do that. She's an unusual 23-year-old in that respect, failing to even put a nick in the proverbial umbilical cord, but she revels in their unique bond.

"He said, 'It's your career and if you want to play Fed Cup without me, that's okay," she said. "But I don't want to feel like I'm not ready to compete and be unprepared and without him. I don't feel the strongest."

She feels that her dad was once misunderstood, but not any more and thinks he has garnered respect.

"Since the day I made the final of a Grand Slam, it's changed. I'm not a great athlete. I need to have everything right and precise to compete well and people didn't think I could be a Top-10 player and now I'm there and he gives me the harder preparation that I need."

I love her attitude. She knows exactly who she is and what she wants. She makes her own decisions and she takes responsibility. She seems ok to me.

The Olympics? In another thread I said that the Olympics were as important or unimportant as a player chose to make them. In Marion's case, for her the Olympics 2008 are obviously not important whereas the Olympics 2012 are very important. That is how she feels. Others may disagree and that is ok too but she is entitled to that value judgement.

and once her wimbly points come off, i really doubt she'll be number 1 in a few years times once tati gets all her injuries sorted out

from this interview and the other, she seems pretty deluded, considering she has done nothing since wimbly...

That's a shame IMO, but it's totally up to her and I respect her decision and it takes alot of guts to have this attitude.

She's only being confident, I admire her for that and sticking to her guns. Do you expect her to say she has no chance? Giving the current crop of French tennis players, I say Marion has a fair chance of remaining the French #1. Who's to say what may happen anyway... LOL. The French are generally thought to be diplomatic, but this girl sure isn't with her nononsense statement about disliking Beijing as a city. I think there are more legitimate reasons for boycotting these Olys and wish more players might follow her and Rodick's footstep, but mere dislike for a city doesn't seem like a good enough reason without further clarification. If she plays in China in the future, she might find herself being disliked by the fans there, and with good cause.

In August of this year she will be probably out of TOP20 - so who care (Cornet or Razzano which will replace her is not worse players than she). Marion played at 25 slams but only three times she reach 4th round and only once she survive that round. Her Wimbledon final or TOP10 which she reach last season is one of biggest jokes in WTA history (IMO). She also played about 25 tier-I and never reach SF (only three QFs) so comparation Bartoli with Roddick ("Big Names out of Beijing") in this article is :p. I doubt that in august she will be better ranked than for example Srebotnik which also dont want to play in Beijing or couple of Russians which will be not enough good ranked to be part of Russian TOP4 team (Zvonareva, Petrova, Safina, Kirilenko...) so she dont be biggest name or best ranked player which will miss Beijing in womans competition.

I am not particularly fond of Beijing, but for her to say such a thing is just borderline stupid. Who does she think she is? Marion "the fucking" Bartoli? She had a good run at Wimbledon, so what? She did not make quarters or better in most of her tournaments after. She has a right to play in whatever tournament she wants, but to not play a tournament and say shit about a city is just downright disgraceful. For example, Serena got booed off the court at the Frend Open, so what, she kept on playing in the FO for years after. I feel that with Marion and the things that she said after Wimbledon, on one hand, kudos to her for sticking up for herself, but it is another thing to put down another person or place in trying to get her point across.

Seriously I am loosing respect of this girl ever since US Open. I found a respect for her after winning Wimbledon and sticking for herself, but the things she said sometimes are just rude to other people.

I''m incredibly angry at these players who are pulling out of the Olympics when theses countries are known for being patriotic.

I feel that Srebotnik could have at least attempted to play doubles with a fellow Slovenian.

I feel that Andy is a douchebag. You win one tournament that's not even a Master Series and he thinks he has a better shot at the US Open.
How about getting back in the top 5 first.

One less tournament to see Bartoli's fat cellulite ass as she will lose at Wimbledon in the first week and noone will give a fuck about her is fine with me.

if she thinks she will be the number one French player with Golovin, Rezai, and Cornet, the fat has gotten into her brain.

And someone tell Bartoli that the feeling is mutual when it comes to Beijing.
They had to close all the buffets the last time she was in town.

Unless you won a medal at the games, I don't feel you have a right to just quit on them.

Why does anyone expect her to lose all her Wimbledon points? She didn't have a cake walk draw and made it and I see no reason why she shouldn't make the semis again. She can beat most Top10 on grass.

And don't put your bets on Golovin. Not only is she overrated, but her physique just doesn't live up to what is needed at the top.

You have a right to your opinion but no need to trash players for making personal decisions.

Tennis is not such a big Olympic sport anyway and pretty much ANY player and ANY fan would rather win a slam than get a medal at the Olympics. If Bartoli doesn't want to go to Beijing, if Roddick believes it hurts his chances at USO, all credit to them for standing up for themselves and making decisions they feel are best for their careers.

Bartoli plans to play Fed Cup and Olympics in the future and Roddick has carried US men's tennis and has tremendously handled the burden placed on him by the shadow of Sampras and Agassi.

Sellout because she stuck to stupidity?

Let's get this straight, you lose your coach in team performances.
If Jennifer Capriati and Bartoli can't get that but everyone else can (even Richard Williams passified his ego), that doesn't make you a rebel, it just makes you an idiot.

Riight, the French are cruel.

Mary Pierce played in Athens in 2004, made the quarters and gave it her all.
That's all the French ask for.

They've been the harshest on Mary Pierce over 15 years and yet they adore her at the French because she dealt with it and never wavered her pride for the French.
It's even her goal for coming back.

You make one finals of a slam and now you believe you have the right to make plans up to 2012?

Venus making plans for the Olympics at Wimbledon, very understandable as the best player of her generation there.
Sharapova makng plans for the Olympics at Wimbledon, understandable.

You can't even make plans for 2009 with the way you're playing.

How did Dementieva and Kuzzie do after playing it? Kuzzie won. Dementieva made the finals.

 I think we all understand that after 25 years of dominance in tennis by the americans that we would have some off time.
When Federer beat Sampras in 2001, we already designated him as the heir to Sampras.
He never handled the burden because honest we didn't expect him to, most big names in tennis had given it to Federer and obviously rightly so.

Yeah. I'm sure people would have said the same thing about Myskina after 2004.

In 2000, you had to be in the top 16 to make the Olympics as a French player in singles.

With the way the French players are developing, the standard could be easily back to top 20 by 2012.

I don't like Beijing as a city, so it's not hard for my real goals, and for me it's to play the one at Wimbledon in 2012. I won't miss that one for anything in the world.

1. I doubt the French media were expecting Bartoli to be in the semis or the final of the AO. Anyone who wrote that must be quite the dreamer.

2. For her own sake I hope Bartoli doesn't become TOO fixated on Wimbledon, until she makes a second decent showing there (at leats a QF) I don't think she should make her plans around Wimbledon.

3. You're already the French number one Bartoli! I don't think she should expect to be there in two or three years though. I'd say the chances are 50/50.

First of all quit hating on Bartoli... Calling her fat and insulting her isnt gona make you or your moma look better than her.. You cant really insult Roddick because he is the american hope and he beleives its better for him to play the tournament. How can you say such an ignorant thing for what hes dont for fedcup all these years. You are being a douche for prejudging players. Unless you are a professional tennis player yourself you cant be empathetic with the situation so you shouldnt say all these negative things. Bartoli is going to stay the number one french player for a while and you know that... you need to get the fag out your ass and let Bartoli go to her buffets.. She and Roddick are still gona do the things they wana do and they are human too.. some people tend to forget that and every individual has the right to make their own choices without what people think. That is what makes Marion special and a great player. SHe did a little thing as making the wimbledon final and nothing else... but shes still got everybody talking about her.

What a dipshit. I have to get the fag out of my ass? farts. Ok done.
It's a lot easier for me to do that than for you to get the :bs: out of your brain.

She's fat and she's a brat. I'm just stating the obvious.

Andy hopes are resting on Roger Federer and him not getting over his mono.
When you have to hope a few players ranked above you aren't playing their best for whatever reason, then you're really not a hope at all.
You can't hold you're own when it counts the most.

It's Davis Cup and he didn't do anything he shouldn't have done.
Venus, Lindsay, and Serena have carried the US team for FED CUP for 8 years now, they've never asked for praise for doing it.

I don't have to be a professional player to see in 4 years, that these players are gonna regret not playing the Olympics in their prime as Martina Navratilova feels.

If a while is until July then yes but she's barely in the top 10 now with slam finalist points.

All the players who made the semis or finals of a slam in the last 52 weeks are ranked higher than her.
That should tell you everything you need to know about Marion Bartoli.
She couldn't even get into the YEC with finalist points.
Do you know how bad you have to be for the rest of the year to accomplish that?

Of course people are talking about her, it's usually never positive.
She's the elephant in the room literally and most commentators treat her that way.

Even Justine treats her that way.
Did Justine want to double bagel Bartoli to show that her Wimbledon match aganinst her to be the biggest fluke in Wimbledon's history? YES.
Did she really have to exert much energy to get it done? Clearly not.

I liked her she was really nice and funny at Wimbledon, but now she's losing it:weirdo: One thing is being confident another is being stupid:tape: She just went down after Wimbledon, and i doubt that she can be great there and then suck everywhere else... she's just using Wimbledon as a crutch but she's sliding badly.

Marion love her ever so much

But the Amelie comment made me not even read the article properly
She didn't say anything wrong imo.
She already IS the French No. 1 , though still thinks that Amélie is

I also thought that quote was VERY telling. She is still very clearly under Amelie's shadow.

Exactly my point. Marion is the French n.1 now... but obviously not in her mind. I wouldn't bet my money on her being the French n.1 in the near future.

Marion still giving Momo too much respect.:tape:
Some players would die to play at Olympic so it seems a bit sad to see that some others just piss it all away. This is just my opinion. But I guess good for Marion for sticking out to whatever she believes.
Still baffles me that some tennis players diss the Olympics so much. It's the most prestigious sporting event. :tape:

They had to close all the buffets the last time she was in town.

i think we all get your point now...no need to post anymore after this :spit:

"The French media are the best at putting pressure on you."

"I told the federation that I won't play the Olympics this year"

"I don't like Beijing as a city, so it's not hard for my real goals, and for me it's to play the one at Wimbledon in 2012. I won't miss that one for anything in the world."

"The new generation is coming up and Amelie [Mauresmo] won't play beyond another two or three years and I will be the No. 1."

I need to have everything right and precise to compete well and people didn't think I could be a Top-10 player and now I'm there and he gives me the harder preparation that I need."

really had some kind of sympathy of ur 08 performance, bartoli. pls draw yan zi in R1 Wim this year, French No.1

The "elephant" has still made a slam final in the last 52 weeks. If she sucks what does it say about Chaky, Hantuchova, Serena etc...
Oh, and she managed to beat Henin in one of the last 4 slams.Call me when Serena achieved that again.
