and they expect American women's tennis to progress when they cherry pick WCs,they should have given at least three American youngsters a chance to taste the big league.

It's not all about WCs. Learn to play tennis, get a good feel for your game in different situations, then move up.

That is only six WCs that have been announced then. That means there are still two more WCs yet to be given out. Personally I think Asia Muhammed deserves one after her work in Las Vegas but we will see.

Regarding the distribution of WCs, particularly that only one of the six announced has gone to an American, this is actually not new. Last year Miami gave only one out of their eight WCs to an American. The year before that they gave 4 of 8, substantially more, but still less than a country normally gives there home players. Personally I wouldn't really like to make any judgements on the decision, but clearly one can make both a positive and negative argument for this policy. All I will say is it is unusual compared to other events.

I do believe I heard somewhere that Miami often give out WCs to players that have a particular sponsor although I can't remember which sponsor that would be, another poster might wish to shed some light on this. Having said all that, looking at the list I don't really see too many undeserving names there. I'm not so sure about Dubois who has been around a while and is 21 and not in great form either, but all five of the other girls are young very talented players with great futures.

I've had the same thought about the list.

Why does Erakovic need a quali WC? Even with her ranking a few weeks ago she would've made it, bordering on being seeded.

It annoys me that they're only giving a wild card to one American girl.

Even worse choices for the qualy wild cards.

Oh well, good luck Coco!

Why does Coco keep getting WCs ahead of other American youngsters like Asia Muhammed?

I'm not sure what is up with Dubois getting one either, and this is the 2nd WC in a row for Pivovarova after main draw in Indian Wells this week.

Dubois probably got one because of a WC exchange that started last year (Womens WC in MD of Miami for a Mens MD WC in Toronto/Montreal).

And a women's player gets a qualy wc into Toronto/Montreal (last year was Cecil).

Pivovarova probably got one because she was the runner up in the girls tournament last year, with Cirstea being the winner. Hence, they both received WCs :)

Players sponsored by IMG have always gotten Wild Cards for this tournament. I remember Gisela getting a couple when she was training in the USA, back when she was just starting on the Tour.

Exactly. It's annoying to see her getting another WC, I mean what has she exactly done or acheived to deserve to get one?:o

Interesting choice of giving a WCQ to Sloane Stephens, though I don't think she is ready for this level, I still want to know how she plays, hopefully there are some Q reports from someone:D.

Did you happin to see who Roddick beat last week to win Dubai ?? Its still not to late for him :p. Asfar as CoCo goes, she just turned 16 and if u have ever seen her play live then you would know what all the hype is about ... ;)...:wavey:

Interesting that you think this about someone who has been ranked best in the world in their profession at one point and has held a grand slam title. I guess we can expect to hear big things about you in whatever career you pursue seeing as you set your standards so high.

Sloane Stephens is 15 I think, and is a decent player, but this is probably too soon for her. I think Melanie Oudin should have got a wild card. Here's a pic of Sloane :

I love how some people are just being ignorant and spew some craps and think they know everything.

Two more WCs though so hopefully Mel or Asia will get one.

Steph :D

Wozniak got one last year, now is Steph's turn. Miami always had different WC than other American tournaments, due to the different owners and their multiple deals. It's nice to see.

i'm not sure when it is, but apparently there's going to be a playoff for the last MDWC....ahsha, asia, bethanie, and melanie will be playing, but i'm not sure who else will be...

Sloane Stephens probably got a WC due to the fact that she had some relatively strong performances in two recent American 25ks (qualifying and winning a round in one, getting a MD WC and winning a round in the other).
