Didn't see the match obviously, but was following the live scores. What happened after the first set? Was Yan just playing horribly in the first? Because it seems like U.Rad just does not have the mental strength to be playing at this level.

I don't know how she gets these WC's but it's not good for her career... :( she won't improve her game if she will lose one match in a month :help:

I saw Ula live at the US Open last year, and, while she certainly has the strokes to compete at this level, her attitude needs a lot of work. Unlike Aga, who remains almost stoic in her matches, Ula shows a lot of emotion, especially too much negative emotion, in my opinion. It is probably just a matter of maturity, and I'm sure that she will get it together soon enough.

Also, nice win for Zi, backing up that stellar result in Bangalore!

Yan is knocking on the top 40. With no points to defend until Berlin, she might even be seeded at the French.

I saw the match. Yan was just not warmed up the first set. You know she is a fighter and has no problem coming from behind.

Yan had her thigh taped after the third game. Ula had her ankle wrapped (I think) in the second set. Both played as if not bothered by injury.

Yan played so well, it was a pleasure to watch. I actually enjoyed watching her more than Peng's match, which followed. Ula actually played well too. I had never seen her before.

Ula got so frustrated that she was yelling, and crying, in the third set. (About like Zvonareva :tape: :o.)

Keep going Yan Zi!!

Great comeback after losing the 1rst set...she then rolled!

She seems to be confident and hits perfect double handed both sides shots to outclass smart players!
She deserved to get into the Top 40!

urgh, I repeat .... Ula should not be playing at this level at the START of her career. Just because she is talented, it does not mean that she can begin her career in Tier 1 and Tier 2 tournaments against girls who are much more experienced and technically refined.

Ula should be playing some 50ks and low tier tournaments to get some wins under her belt, work on ger game, develop her shots etc.
She isnt going anywhere following her sister to all the top tournaments, and losing first round. She is lucky to be able to be amongst the best players so early in her career, but other young stars like Vaidisova and Ivanovic were out there winning 50ks, 75ks and low tiers before they played regularly at this level.
I know Ula is a good player, its obvious because she still manages somewhat competitive matches at this level, so imagine what it would do for her confidence if she detatched herself from her sister and went and actually won some matches in some small events. I hope she stops following Aga and decides to go and forge her own career by winning some smaller events.
For example, I whilst her sister was in Dubai and Doha, Ula SHOULD have been in South America playing the Tier III and IV tournaments... where she can gain some confidence meet girls who are more at her level and win some matches.
If she keeps following Aga to these big tournaments, 'winning' will be a rare feeling for her.

I agree with you, not to mention that she needs to GROW UP. She had the crowd laughing AT HER with her moaning and crying. :o And Yan looked perplexed, like she didn't know what to think about her at times; Yan's reaction cracked me up actually. :p

But what I mean is, I agree for the reasons you stated, but also think it will help her grow up; being out on her own two feet.
