It was a great fight from Dinara today. She has a very high ball toss, and
the wind was moving it all over the place. It also took her some time to
get used to the wind on her groundstrokes. The wind was doing the most amazing
(read: frustrating) things to the ball.

At one point, Dinara lobbed. The ball followed the usual trajectory up and away, and
then, at apogee, the ball started moving BACK towards Dinara.

You can imagine her response. She is Russian.

But she got it together, didn't let the negative mindset hurt her, and did well.

She autographed some balls to hit in to the crowd, and tried to send the 1st one
to me, but a guy in front of me got the ball instead. Ah well! She is such a

cool pics :D thanks Mary ;)

What do you mean by "she is russian"? Did she get mad about it?

So next is Harkleroad.Vamos Dina vamos!!!

Oh you know the drill. Making faces, shrugging shoulders, almost throwing the racquet, berating herself, getting very negative.

She also got a warning for illegal coaching from the stands. Odd that the chair umps go after everyone but Sharapova.

Actually, I saw the Harkleroad/Radwanska match today, and...
Harkleroad really was playing well. I didn't see Dinara's
singles match against Harkleroad, so I don't know how Dinara played,
but if Harkleroad was playing as well as she did against Aga, well,
I can see why she got the win.

In other news, I did see Dinara and Elena V. play doubles yesterday!
That was so much fun. I have lots of photos (not up yet), but just
let me say that it was a very entertaining and enjoyable match.
Both Elena and Dinara seemed in good spirits, and there was a lot of
smiling on the court, as well as good play.

Better late than never... I saw the match against Bondarenko/Bondarenko. The B's played unbelievably well, and it was amazing that Dinara and Elena were able to come back in the 2nd set. (Neither Dinara nor Elena were playing as well as they could play, but more importantly, the B's seemed to get back EVERYTHING. Great volley? The B's sent it back. Great lob? The B's ran back and got it. It had to be really frustrating for Dinara and Elena.)

Yet they hung in there and got the win, even tho' the B's really were the better team that day.

It sounds like Dinara/Elena played better today.

Mar 21st, 2008, 04:11 AM
Also, after their match against the B's, both Dinara and Elena played futbol on the field w/ some guys. It was fun to watch!

Great tournament, Dinara! She and Elena figured out the stupid super tiebreak thang.

Dinara is the number 1 Russian doubles player, if she isn't considered or selected for Beijing I will be annoyed. Dinara should also be a permanent member of the Russian Fed Cup team as core of their doubles team.

Dinara can be top 5 in doubles (maybe even higher) and win more slams. But she needs to find a permanent partner.

Hopefully this win in doubles helps give Dinara confidence in her singles. I have no doubt that Dinara has a top 10 singles game and can get back to the top 10 in singles. When Hantuchova was struggling in singles she played a lot and had a lot of success in doubles and I have no doubt that that helped her eventually get back to top 10 in singles. It may be on a doubles court rather than a singles court but a win is a win and has to help the confidence. Of course it won't be easy but hey they never said it'd be easy just that it'd be worth it;)

& congrats to Dinara on her first tier I title:bounce:

From the match against Craybas:

I love her back. She's been working.

Mar 23rd, 2008, 03:53 PM
Great combo. Hope they continue playing with each other :D I'd say this is the team for Olympics :bounce:

Mar 23rd, 2008, 11:52 PM
Great win for Dinara and Elena this week. I hope they play together in Miami, they seem to do well together.

I agree, Dinara is Russia's best doubles player. They better let her go to Beijing because it's clear she won't be going in singles.

Mar 24th, 2008, 02:18 PM
congratulations to Dinara and Elena for winning the doubles title..
