This was 19 y.o. Rodina's 9th career tour level match (4-4 going in) according to her ITF record. (http://www.itftennis.com/womens/players/player.asp?player=100036642). Sesil and her fans need to stop making excuses. She beats a bunch of club level players (and a slumping Kutuzova twice) to win a couple of 25K's early this year and the hype on this board was err, "thunderous".

you gotta accept the fact that Sesil played for 3 days in a row  while Rodina might have laid down watching TV in her room for a week!

sesil's serve has been the problem throughout this comeback. that shot needs work in order for her to win matches like these. she was breaking rodina at will but unable to hold on to her own serve.

I must admit, I am upset because i really have high hopes for Sesil's comeback...

but then again, there is still plenty of time for her to bounce back and plenty of talent in there!

keep the thunder blazin'!!!!!!

Well, Rodina is a Watch girl, so this is not as surprising as it seems to some. I expect her to be Top 100 before Wimbledon.http://d.yimg.com/a/p/sp/getty/8e/fullj.83adcf9f2e69c70098a580c3ef09f57d/83adcf9f2e69c70098a580c3ef09f57d-getty-77848970ms010_pacific_life_.jpg

Mar 11th, 2008, 12:53 AM
Sesil is simple still not ready for full comeback and this lose is best proof for that. Her favorite surface is clay so hope since may we will see better results from her. Because 2 years pause of competitions i dont expected to see already some improvement from Sesil - but i expect to see atleast same TOP50 level which she have at 16 and i'm realy disappointment now with this 4th bad lose in last 30 days. I hope she will not give up b/c she have enough talent for some big things and to be one of best players of very good 1989 generation.

I saw this match and Rodina was damn good. I really loved her playing. I am so impressed with her. Looking forward to seeing her tomorrow... who does she face anyway? de los Rios? Based on seeing them both today, Rodina will get the Q.

oh yeah, playing 3 days in a row is just so exhausting.
frankly, i'm already sick of all these crap sesil threads. she's a convicted doper and the hype she recently received on this board is unjustified on every level.

As I noted above, it was 2 not 3, and both opponents were unranked. You and I have long disagreed about someone from your country (you fucking enabler) :p but you're right that Sesil needs to earn the renewed attention in GM. Otherwise it will get like the Stevenson and Dokic comeback threads, maybe even a cult following like Brie Whitehead has. :o

BTW, I still think the positive doping test could have been from adulterated supplements. Though her father (a retired competitive rower) should have understood that many (especially sold in gyms) are largely unregulated, and trusted someone who told him that there was nothing in them that tests would detect, not that the supplements were drug free.

we don't need to ask for a wild-card to come into threads and say what we have to .

it's different. Beat said he was sick of the thread about Sesil so he shouldn't bother coming here. and you, i didn't notice you until you quoted my post. it means you are nothing to me unfortunately.

I don't think there's been any Sesil hype aka "She will be number 1 at the end of the year1111!!!!!". I mean.... sure there's lots of talk about her matches in GM, but that's because she is a big story, and some people have high expectations for her (myself included) "Thunderous return" is just a joke.

i agree. i mean can't we have a thread celebrating when the player win a match after such a long break from their game? it's so stupid. but then again, stupid people always make stupid things
