Was she bound to become the greatest Russian? How was her game like? I think I've never seen her play, bt she had an impressive junior career and impressive wins.

She was a typical russian, hitting well on both sides, but a little weak physicly, too thin to worry the best players.
She was a great doubles player too.

I really liked her style but I couldn't see her being the "greatest Russian" had she continued playing. I loved her BH though.

She was never going to become the greatest Russian imo.
She hit hard and powerfull from both wings like all Russian players, but had the same weaknesses pretty much, movement and consistency.
I don't remember her being at all thin... she was powerfull but not that fast... from what I remember. She was a good player, but hey, no more talented than many other girls out there imo.

I think she could have reached the top 10 definately. Not sure how much higher though.

She had a lovely huge BH. She could do anything with it. It never broke down.

Her serve was extremely impressive too. Her 1st serve was big and consistent. She rarely hit DF's. Her 2nd serve was consistently deep and reliable.

Her FH was mainly just solid. It wasn't as flashy as her BH but it wasn't a weakness. She was really good off the ground.

Her weakness was probably the physical side of things. She wasn't overweight or anything but she was no Dementieva. Her movement was OK, i'd say it was nothing worse than Petrova's or Safina's at least and arguably better than both but I don't think her body could handle the physical strain.

:p Thanks anyway, I didn't even notice that one before. I have always wanted to see the match against Clijsters. I could only ever watch it on livescore. :(

Decent enough player, but certainly not bound to be the next greatest Russian. I do think that she was unable to reach her full potential because of the injuries that stopped her being able to play for a long enough time consistently to mature her game and get the points though. Top 15 would have been a reasonable peak, but definitely no better than lower top 10, which is a pretty generous estimate IMO.

I remember in 2001 where she choked away MP's against Dokic in the 2nd round in Moscow and Dokic went on to win the title.

I always forget she made the QF's of RG when she was only 17 in 2001 aswell.

I remember her, she was my first ever favourite. Until she snobbed me in Sydney anyway.
