She just won a U18 Grade 3 junior event in single and she is right now in final of the double. Going through the qualification in Costa Rica this week, she rolled her way untill the final and beat some good juniors. In the final she was down 2-5 in the first and 4-5 0-40 before rolling past her opponent to win it 7-5 6-1. She has turned 14 years old two weeks ago, she was 1302th before this week, she'll be around the top 450 next week.

She also won the consolation draw earlier this year at "Les Petits As", she won the single title at the U14 Prince Cup event last december and won the U18 double of the same event.

Maybe I'm being bias, but to me a young 14 years old girl who started playing tournment last december who's achieving all this is truly great.

Her name: EUGÉNIE "Genie" BOUCHARD!!!

http://i30.tinypic.com/w2n0r6.jpg

Not only a really talented girl, she's also one of the cutest player ever!!!

Some facts about her:

Birthday: February 25th 1994
Hometown: Westmount, Québec, Canada ;)
Height: 5'8''
Weight: 110lbs (49.9kg)
Junior Rank:158th
Career High: 158th (October 22nd 2008)
Age started tennis: 5 years old
Coach: Nick Saviano (Saviano High Performance Tennis at Sunrise,FL)
Actual favorite player: Ana Ivanovic, mostly because she has an aggressive game like her.

http://i32.tinypic.com/142994z.jpg

I know it's quite early, but I think that Genie have an amazing future in front of her. She is definitely a young girl to follow. Who knows she's maybe the next Ana Ivanovic.

Updates: She won the single and made the SF in double of a G5 in Canada

She played 2 10K and she qualified for the first one, lost in a first round of a 25K as a WC and made a good match agaisnt Abigail Spears(a top 200 and a former top 100) in the Qualies of the Rogers Cup

She also started to play G1 tournment (2) winning at least won match in the qualifications, got a LL spot in her last one and won one round.

She just played the Canadian Open Junior a G1, she lost in the 3r round after a win over the #23 Burlecke 6-3 6-3 in the 2nd round and lost to the 27th ranked junior Sandra Roma.

She Qualified for a 10K, lost to Bartnik in first round, she made the 3rd round at the Junior PanAm GB, and lost in first round of a 50K to Carmen Klashka(244thth)

It's nice to see Canadian tennis is continuing to slowly build its prospects at the junior level - Here's hoping a few of them can make a positive transition into successful pro careers :) Sounds like Eugenie is off to a good start :)

OMG she looks amazing! And so glad to see that Ana is already a top role model in tennis, and these great prospects want to follow her classy and fair ways instead of the shrieky and unsportive attitude of other players.
Eugenie you are bound to become my next favourite:angel:

She will play for another country in the futureI doubt now when Larry Scott is WTA CEO that she will repeat Marry Pierce case , which case is BTW very unique (and she is actualy more from USA than from Quebeck). I dont know will this Genie will be big champion in future (it's too early) but this kidd will be for sure good looking women and she is now officialy first very promising young prospect which role-model is Ana (this girl have obviously good taste ;)).

This 1000 place jump is very good sign and i doubt that already since next week will be more than 5 better ranked juniors younger than she so her start since decembar is very good... but like we know - good ranking and results in junior career is good sign of course but is not garantee for anything.

Eugenie is really a very good prospect. And don't worry, she doesn't plan to play for USA ;)

Well I know that's not because you're a good junior that you'll become a great Pro champion, but still she's like the higher youngest player, maybe the 2nd and she has a real potential, that's all I meant

Btw she lost the final in double in 3 sets

I wouldn't say juniors mean shit.

It's a pretty good indication that a young player that really does well in juniors will end up being a good/great pro. Kournikova, Hingis, Henin, Sharapova, Jankovic, etc were very good juniors.

I think most of us knew that she won't be big due to her limited game. Isn't she like, a queen of moonballing?

Back to the topic, this girl is pretty tall for her age, I think even Sharapova was like only 5'7 when she was 16?

Sharon isn't that much a moonballer anymore ...She has some great shot.

I was shocked when I saw she was 5'8''...I'm wondering where she'll stop growing:lol:...but I don't expect her to be necessary that tall. I mean girl grow at a relatively young age so, we'll see ;)

First, thanks Vince.
Great to get a leg up on good canadian prospects, I've been dying for this. It would be amazing for Canada to finally get behind a bigger contender, since there is a strange amount of fans compared to our actual success (like in the UK).

Second, she is gorgeous! Never hurts. I hope thats a good coach.

Age doesn't matter.

110 lbs is too small for 5'8" no matter what age a female is.

It goes the same for a 20 year old who is 5'8" and 110 lbs.

I doubt if she only weighs 110 lbs, I mean Sharapova was(or is?) once(or still?) listed 6' and 59kg for a while, which we all know she definitely had more pounds. The weight and the height are always wrong.:o And from the pictures posted, I don't think she is alarmingly thin.

okay, just an update on Genie ;)....She made QF of a G4 and won a G5 in Canada this week ;)

First of all I know nobody really care about juniors and even less about a 14years old canadian lol..but I had to bump that thread considering she made great things again.

She played the Canadian open a G1. she made the 3round there beating in 2nd round the 6th seed and #23 on the junior rank Burlecke 6-3 6-3. She lost against the 27th ranked junior Sandra Roma but it was the firs time I saw her and for a 14 years old competing against juniors who are 18 or 17 she's doing amazingly well. In that match Roma was basically moonballing everthing and Génie couldn'T take advantage of all those balls, but she has THE game to be a TOP player, if she can improve her serve and her mental toughness she will be able to finish off those moonballs and really end the points and not only take the advantage of the points, by chance Roma was good at defence because she was totally overpowered by a 14 years old girl at her first year on the junior tour ...really promising future for her, she'll improve her ranking alot I think with those wins surely top 200 :yeah:

*** Can a mod move that thread in the Canadian forum, I think it would make more sense there...thanks ;)
