Vee isn´t in great shape, but Vera´s results in her first matches weren´t good...:p
In a match with many up´s and down´s Venus will win  (if her injury isn´t too serious :scared:)

I love Vera, and for all her virtues and talents, it's just not enough. Venus is going to make her run, and Vera isn't as good a defender as she used to be--at least that's what I saw in Doha.

Venus in two sets. Three if she hands it away. But I hope whoever wins the QF beats Serena in the SF.

Well Vera is capable of beating Vee with the current form she is in.....but I hope Vee is able to raise her game a few notches and take care of her in straight sets.

Vera is in much better form than Venus right now. She'll prob. win something like 62 63

or something embarrassing like that. Venus hit 15 DF in her last match :tape::help: and I think Peng was in a worse slump than her. But at least she won a round and losing to Vera will be her best loss since AO. :p

Venus will win in straight sets. With Serena there in Bangalore to give Venus some updated pointers on Zvonareva's game, I don't see how Venus can lose this one. :)

Gotta look on the bright side...she'll be losing to a higher quality of opponent. The only thing is that I can see Vera beating both WS back to back which would be extremely embarrassing for them. But IMO not that much of surprise...2008 seems like massive slump year for both girls.

r u kididng me? you know she just lost to a girl ranked 150 in the world, in the first round of a Tier III. And you can't see how she could lose to Zvonereva who has a top 10 game and just comes off of reaching the finals of Doha where she took Sharapova (the most in form player atm) to 3 sets. And you can't see how Venus DF, UE queen could lose to her?

I wouldn't be surprised by any result. She could lose 60 61 or win 60 61 or any variation in between.

Venus has been worse. I don't expect her to lose b/c she has freak losses to players we've never heard of or don't expect her to lose to. She shouldn't lose to Zvonareva.. I don't think Vera's game is one that will bother Venus too much on this surface. Even if Venus throws in 10 DF, she's great on return, so she should break enough to counter that. You need to have a little faith.

I really don't understand matches where people hit 15+ second serve!...once you hit 10 just friggin underarm the serve :haha:

No but seriously....it is very strange to me....is it the pressure of game or just bad techinque on second?

Wimbledon 2006 Mixed Doubles final ;)

I was at that match. Damn that was an amazing match. Vera was head and shoulders better than anyone else on the court that day. She was returning Bryan's serve way better than Andy Ram and was serving awesome herself. Her passing shots, her volleys, everything was working. The other the three players were just performing supporting roles. The whole match was about Vera, she was the star. It really was an extraordinary performance. She took that form into her next tournament too, winning Cincinati, defeating Golovin 6-3 6-0, Jankovic 6-1 6-1 and Serena 6-2 6-3 on the way.

You're already calling it a slump year when its march... Venus has only done well in like 1 spring season her entire year on tour and Serena has only played one tournament... both got to the quarters of AO... and Serena just bageled her last opponent...

umm its easy really... youve already served 5 doubles... you go up and miss the first, then your thinking **** i already hit 5 cant do another, so you change your serve try to spin it in and dont hit out, and either hit the net or push it long.....Its very easy to see.... Doubt can creep into the game easy... You could be serving 100% first serves, and mess around and serve two doubles in a row and it would just open the flood gates...

Oh back to who will win this match, and truth is I really don't have a clue. But I think it will be very very close and probably a bit edgy. It could very well go to the wire in the 3rd set. Should be fun.

Ok, if I had to venture a guess I will say Vera 7-5 in the 3rd but if Venus just edges it that wouldn't surprise me either. Only thing that would really surprise me is if Venus won easily. That won't happen. I don't expect Vera to win easily either although I'd say that was slightly more likely.

She's amazingly talented and that entire doubles tournament she was on fire. To be fair, Venus's partner, I think it was Bob Bryan(i always get the brother confused) was tired after playing the doubles final that morning I think, but Vera was excellent.

The problem I see Vera having though is Venus's speed. I'm not sure how she'll handle it. This is also hardcourt, not clay so Venus's aggressiveness resulting in winners and forced errors can counter her UE's and DF's. It's really a toss-up IMO. If the real Venus shows up, she will win..but we havent seen that Venus since USO 2007.

Vera just can't let Venus get herself together and if she is on fire from the start, the match could be over before Venus has the opportunity to find her game.

Venus form is so bad that I kinda think this will be a repeat of 2004 Charleston. Venus came into that match against Vera in bad form and woke up. She was focused from the get go & won in 2. I expect that Venus tomorrow.

Yeah it was Bob and yeah he was the weakest of the four players for sure. Venus played ok, not her best but ok.

As for the match, I agree again Venus's speed could be decisive. She is as fast as anyone in the game but the problem is when Venus makes too many errors that weapon becomes negated. I do think Vera will get a lot of balls back so while Venus does need to be agressive I think she also needs to be prepared to be disciplined and not go for winners that aren't there.

They are both good players to watch and I would love to be able to see it on the telly but I guess I will have to make do with the internet scoreboard, if even that is working. :tape:

Vera may not be able to start slowly in this one, like she has all of her recent matches. Though Venus hiccuped against Peng, the highlights made it look like she's in better form than she's been. A total toss-up.

No match has ever been won on public opinion.

I think the form going into the match of both players justified Vera being regarded as a slight favourite but of course form can fluctuate greatly especially with players as unpredicatable and capable of both extremely good and not-so-good tennis as both Venus and Vera are. I'm sure Venus wouldn't have been bothered about whether people thought she was going to win or not. It's much more important to win the match on the court and Venus did that.

I for one certainly didn't expect such as easy win, so I can only say that I am impressed with what Venus did in this match.
