I think that third set was needed for Vee. she needed to wake up and fight! She won 4 straight games in that third set. I hope the rust is shaken off...

why are the williams sister struggling a bit in their matches in the blore open.
serena was nt tat good in her match and venus lost an entire set today.

i guess the conditions are warm for them.

Serena ALWAYS struggles with her early round matches. ALWAYS. 7-5, 6-0, is actually a brilliant scoreline for her. It's basically a 6-3, 6-2, which is easy.

In Venus' case, she's clearly in a slump but I'm proud of her for getting through this, as she was on the verge of another disappointment but fought her way out of it.

One step close to that WS SF! :hearts:

Nah, Venus has been in a funk for a couple of weeks now.
Hopefully this match will give her the boost she needs.

As for Serena, it's her 1st tournament since the AO and
it is not surprising she's a bit rusty. However, Serena
after that 1st set took total command. So, it's fine.

Its good that she won I guess players know that they have to stay close with Venus and capitalize on her mistakes. If I am Venus I will always try to break early and have some sort of cushion.Anyway a win is a win!good luck Vee:hearts:

Serena said because of the weather the rackets have to be strung very tight and that was the case when she changed rackets to a tighter string during the second set.

Well done Venus. Shake it off!

It's not like Venus crumbled in the second set. It was tight but the first and third sets were obviously all Venus!

I wish Venus had more time to play her way into a tournament though. It might be a bit soon to play Zvonareva. She can still do it though!

Good sign, that Vee won the 3rd set so easy, after she lost the 2nd set 6-7..;)
And Peng is not easy to play, you never know what to expect when you play against her!
I hope Venus is more confident now and beat Vera in the next round

Venus leads 3-1 in their head to head.

Zvonareva won their first meeting 2-6, 6-2, 6-4. 2003 FO.
Venus won 6-1, 6-2 at Wimbledon in 2003.
Venus won 6-3, 6-4 at Charleston in 2004.
Venus won 6-3, 6-2 in Warsaw in 2004.

So they have never played on a hardcourt but Venus has quite a good record against her, all of her wins were comfortable. I hope she can continue her trend.

which makes this win all the more impressive :worship: Would have been easy for Vee to fold in the third after wasting mps (if she had them, I didn't see the match) but she fought hard and regained control - great to see that at least :)

Good going Vee :D Good revenge for the doubles match

Anyway, her serving may be off b/c of whatever her arm is taped up for. She always tapes her wrists, but that wrap is clear up to the elbow. I hope it's just soreness and the taping is preventive measures only.

Can anybody get the match stats on her average serving speed?

Dodoboy.
Mar 6th, 2008, 06:09 PM
Very nice result..excluding the second! *minor blip i am sure her next match will be more solid*

Mar 6th, 2008, 06:13 PM
Didn't someone notice that Venus was playing without either wrist tape last week? I just have to say if that was true, that is HIGHLY questionable on Venus' part considering she has had several issues with them.
