I say that if she starts to play better and better leading up to the US Open a semi, final, or win isn't out of the picture, but if she continues the form from the Bank of the West and doesn't get into shape, we could be looking at another typical quarterfinal...

quarterfinal !

but maybe a semifinal with Hingis probably out and Davenport who is coming back from a injury !

here we go again.....

I hope seles will do well, i hope she can reach the semi's and if she does she will have done brilliantly, iam not stupid enough to really believe she's gonna win it, it's been over 6 years since her last grandslam and i haven't seen anything on the court recently to make me think she can do better than she has in the last 6 years..
However stranger things have happened and a part of me would love to see her win one more final slam before she hangs her boots up, maybe god has one more final twist planned in her amazing but tragic career...:)

really depends on her draw. QFs have been the norm lately, unfortunately. I hope her foot heals...
I wish she would rest up well for the open - i think that monica feels like she needs/wants a lot of match play before big events, but it does seem to me she is a bit tired by the time the second week of slams come around.

anyway, I would LOVE to see monica win another slam. so best of luck to her.

if she's not on her game from the start...i sense an early exit (b4 4th round) if she is playing ok-ish then i think she will make the qtrs. i dont think she will get any further than that

I really don't think I can say until i see her draw...but I think her play has been declining lately, so hopefully she'll use this time off to regroup.

I don't like to make prediction and certainly not before knowing the draw.

I have a huge respect for Monica and I consider her capable of beating anyone, I started a thread some time ago saying that I thought Monica could pose the higuer threat to the Williams domination.

However, Monica doesn't seem to be in a good shape. I don't really know what's wrong with her but you could see the signs everywhere, from Paris on.

I think that this year Monica is in the worst shape I've seen her ever. I saw her match against Justine in Wimbledon and as much I would love to say that Justine played great and just outplayed Monica, I can't, Justine played bad and won because Monica could hardly move, she wasn't even trying to reach balls that were pretty easy, specially when she had to move forward.

I don't know if it's due to injuries, bad fitness, lack of motivation, low confidence, bad luck or a combination of several factors, but unless something changes radically I don't really see Monica going too far.

depends on her feet and how soon they heal. who can predict that?

Even a pretty crappy-injured Monica will get to at least the fourth round. Assuming she's not playing with a significant injury, and with her ranking, she will get to the quarters. Of that, I'm sure. It depends who she meets there. A top "babe" and I think she's out in the quarters. Someone else, she gets to the semis. I have to assume by the semis, she will meet a top "babe." On a good day, she can beat a top "babe" but not two in a row, much less three in a row. Maybe an upset, probably not. Unless the draw breaks extremely well, if I had to place money on it (and I never would in tennis), Monica gets tossed in the quarters.
