Nicole should be seeded 9-12, all players between 5-8 are beatable in their current respective forms, Dementieva too. Let's see if Nicole gets that far.

errata: Dementieva withdrew so Nicole should be 8th seed. That's even better. :)

Thanks
Whoever but Hantuchova, Bartoli and Safina. :p
Nicole's QF opponent, if she makes it this far, will come from the sections of the four top seeds naturally - Ivanovic's, Kuznetsova's, Jankovic's or Sharapova's. ;)

if Nicole will be in a good form she can at least reach the QF.. Zvonareva will be tough but I think she can do it and then finally beat Ivanovic..

Yes, tough draw. The only good thing I can see, is that if she goes to Qf and SF (thinking she's gonna beat Paszek and Zvonareva), she will face opponents she already beat before. So, she knows she can beat them (No Kuznetsova, Henin...).But I don't expect her to do that. We'll see.

It's a pretty tough draw considering Nicole has been struggling/not playing a lot this year. If she's in decent form she could make the quarterfinals, but it'll be tough.

Hopefully, Nicole is in good form. Good luck, Nikki!

Ouch, the only good thing about this draw is that Nicole avoided Sharapova's quadrant, although given her last match against Ivanovic I am not sure how much of a difference it really is. Other than that it's probably the worst part of the draw (only Davenport is missing there), Dellacqua showed some backbone in Melbourne, Paszek is a promising young player, still these two Nicole should beat. Then Vera whom I don't like because she is capable of upsets, only injuries hold her back, then Ivanovic.
This draw stinks badly.

It's a tough draw.
Nicole will need to be at her best from the very start.
Hopefully she can make it far here because she needs some confidence.

I have faith. ;)

Good luck Nicole! :)

I often have fun bringing defeatism and despondency to deluded, over-optimistic fans, but some people in here are already doing it much better than I could ever hope to do.

Actually, there aren't deluded, optimistic fans to begin with.

This is such a weird fanbase.

I agree with everyone on Nikki`s draw looking tough, especially with the way she has been playing. However if she can get past Paszek, then i can see her reaching the quarterfinals or at best the semifinals. I really hope that Nikki can get it together and start putting it together at Indian Wells.

VAIDISOVA HOPES FOR HEALTHY 2008: After reaching the quarterfinals in Indian Wells last year, Czech teen Nicole Vaidisova had a hard time finishing her 2007 schedule.

She missed most of the European clay court season with a right wrist injury, and during the summer hardcourt season she battled a viral illness.

Vaidisova still managed to finish in the top 20 for the third year in a row, with a semifinal appearance in the Australian Open and quarterfinals finishes at the French Open and Wimbledon.

Vaidisova, now 18, said Wednesday she hoped the complications were behind her.

"I've been healthy, and that was obviously a big concern last year," she said. "I missed a lot of tournaments because of health. So I think that's my No. 1 priority - just be healthy."

In 2007, Vaidisova finished in the quarterfinals or better in 10 of 14 events but either missed or withdrew from seven all together.

"That's a big chunk," said Vaidisova, the seventh seed in the singles main draw and currently ranked No. 14 on the WTA Tour. "I dropped (in the rankings), obviously. There was some disappointment. I was close to going to the Masters but then you lose a couple tournaments and then you don't. So you're bummed about that."

She says this year she has taken a trainer with her on tour, and that she's listening to herself more and not trying to push too hard.

So far, her best finish this year has been a semifinal finish at the Medibank International in January in Australia, where she fell to Svetlana Kuznetsova. Kuznetsova knocked Vaidisova out of the Pac-Life in 2007 on her way to the final.

Vaidisova finished in the fourth round later that month at the Australian Open, her earliest exit from a Grand Slam event since 2006.

Vaidisova has a 5-2 record at Indian Wells. She will face the winner of Olga Poutchkova and Casey Dellacqua in the second round later this week.

"Hopefully, I'll get to play my whole schedule without a hitch," Vaidisova said.

Same tape she's been playing for reporters ever since the beginning of the season.

Don't know if this means she's just not setting any kind of goals for herself this season apart from playing a full schedule.

She also seems to assume that playing a full schedule will lead to everything falling into place. That may be too optimistic - no w/d due to injury or illness so far this year, and she's #16 on the race.

It seems that Nicole's health problems from the last year really left some scars on her mind. She wasn't this cautious or hesitant about her goals one or two years ago. Hard to say whether it's the natural process of growing up and therefore being a little bit more reserved or simply lack of confidence to say loudly that her goal is to kick some asses.

She's already a poor returner of serve and since she doesn't see a lefty serve everyday, I knew break points would be rare. And they were. She had some, but of course couldn't take them.

This crap of playing a tournment here and then playing a tournament there is never going to work for her. I know she's scared of getting injured or whatever, but she's not a player that will always be in-form. :o

This shows what happens when her serve doesn't work.
The weaknesses in her game are really starting to show.

It's time for her to get help beyond Kodat. She needs a new voice, a new opinion.

What a disappointing loss for Nikki. :( Once again she folds in another three set match. I also think that she`s starting to regress form wise and her limitations are becoming more apparent. I really feel that Nikki needs to start some retooling with her game.

I agree. Nicole needs a consistant schedule so she can built up match rhythm. She's played way too off and on this year and it's hurting her. I also agree that it's time for some outside help. She's in a rut and needs to get out of it now before she falls too far down the rankings and loses all confidence.

Lunaris
Mar 16th, 2008, 06:10 AM
Dellacqua is a lefty? That explains a lot, thanks. I saw her playing against Jankovic in Melbourne but didn't remember anything from that match except that she uses a heavy topspin forehand.

RsaibotD
Mar 16th, 2008, 06:28 AM
maybe she needs to take more Yoga sessions, maybe she isn't enough mature to have a relationship with a man and at the same time have a tennis career, maybe she needs a new opinion from a new coach..... so many hypothesis:sad:, we all knew that casey would be tough, but I didn't expect this result:o

Take into consideration that the weather in IW was rather cold and windy, it might have affected Nicole's performance. That said I agree it's time for her to hire someone new to her team.

Well, it's clear for me that right now, she doesn't care about tennis.

I wouldn't go that far, but this seems like an acute case of cantbearseditis, presumably bred by frustration. She worked on her game, tried to improve it (even though most of its flaws can't really be corrected), made some progress, showed up in late 2007 much more resourceful than ever before, yet finds herself exactly where she was more than two years ago, still unable to get the results to match what is expected of her since she appeared on the scene as the brightest supernova since Sharapova, and at a time where the competitiveness of the WTA has sunk to the lowest level in the past few years to boot. So she thinks, "why should I bother?". As I said before, all this stuff we say in here, don't you think that crosses her mind as well? Not everyone can be Sharapova (transcript of her thoughts: "WINWINWINWINWINWIN") or Ivanovic (transcript of her thoughts: "...").

Huge gap between expectations and reality right now, and it will take some time for her to fully fathom this.

Her serial shagging of ATP players is a symptom rather than a cause.
