What's the problem of playing Qualies...She's not gonna defend her point this week.

Nobody with a spark of sanity will believe she'll defend her points.I just think it would be nice if the defending champion could start in MD.

I think it would be nice if she plays in MD, but I think a WC is not deserved because of her poor results. Last year she played quali and still won it. Why not play qualies again??

Ouch.

All of the MD list players in as 2nd priority withdrew except Pironkova. Even some of those in as 1st (or only) priority bolted away.

Benesova was ranked much higher when the '07 list came out than she is now, yet she didn't make it to the MD (played qualies, in which she promptly tanked). At this rate, Oprandi's comeback will begin in the MD.

Continuing with the tradition of the Estoril Open women's event having mostly ghastly and often random winners, I suspect one of Meusburger, Pin or Obziler will win the whole thing.

Last year, there was a Q WC for a Spanish player, and since she has played well in Portugal before, she may be the one to get it this year.
