Jiro,
we meet again .

As a coincidence, I was wondering what would be happening at this Championship. All I know is that it will be from December 17 to December 22 and that we should have someone in Hong Kong doing all the tourney follow-up so that we all know "live" what is happening (same as what you did at the Nonthaburi tourney). Miranda : will you be able to find some more information for all of us?

Su-Wei and I-Ting Wang, both impressed me very much. I saw her play in Volvo's Women Open for Su-Wei and I-Ting Wang in Nonthaburi.

Hope there are someone in Hong Kong can make some tournament report and post some pics.

The entries are all based on their rankings. I-Ting is higher than Chin-Wei.

BTW, I finally found the website!

As expected, no male entrants from Singapore....

Well, at least we have Agustine...but why in the world did we enter Sonya??? I'd rather we have jaime wong or even 12 year old Wei Ping. Jaime strecthed Chin Bee to 3 sets at the Sea Games.....as far as I can see, she's the only shining light among the players here.....

Singapore is in serious need of talent... we need some kind of tennis tournament fast......

Surely Ai and Wynne's ranking are high enough to get direct entrant to Aussie. What if one of them wins, who will get the wildcard for Aussie?

I guess it will be the runner-up. But I did not see that Ai was participating in the commitment list.

This is the article i read it in:

Asian hotshots duke it out for Aussie Open wild card

HONG KONG (AFP) - The offer of a coveted wild card into the Australian Open next year has enticed the cream of Asian tennis to gather at Hong Kong's Victoria Park on December 17-23 to slug it out in the $60,000 Asian Championships.

The Australian Tennis Association has offered the winners of the men's and women's singles events a wild card entry into the first Grand Slam event of 2002.

Spearheading the challenge for the $4,000 top prize and a starting place in the Australian Open will be Asia's top male player, South Korea's Lee Hyung-Taik.

The world number 99, who shot to fame when he reached the last 32 of the U.S. Open last year before bowing out in straight sets to American legend Pete Sampras, will face stiff competition from Asian number two and world number 112 Paradorn Srichaphan of Thailand.

Uzbekistan's Vadim Kutsenko and leading Chinese stars Zhu Benqiang and Yang Jingzhu will also be battling for the title, which realistically represents their only chance of making the main draw in Australia.

Players ranked outside the top 80-100 in the world are highly unlikely to make even the qualifying draw for Grand Slam tournaments.

Heading the race for the ladies' title is Japanese doubles specialist Ai Sugiyama, although Indonesian number one Wynne Prakusya and China's Liu Nan Nan will provide stern competition.

With a world ranking of 30, Sugiyama is the top ranked Women's Tennis Association player on show.

She reached the third round at the famed grass courts of Wimbledon this year and also made the doubles final of the same event in tandem with Belgium's French Open finalist Kim Clijsters.

The championship will also see a men and women's doubles event and mixed doubles.

Jiro,

they seem to be very slow on the official site.

The first matches started around one hour ago and still no draw available.

I hope they will be posting it soon this morning and not wait until the evening...

Noted jiro.

I am flying off to Hanoi in 2 1/2 hours and I will connect again this evening.

In the meantime, at 13:50 HKG time, no draw / result had been posted yet . This site is so slow .

If none has done it when I arrive Hanoi, I'll connect and post anything in case they have updated their site.

I had never realised how much information on internet viewers were available to a site.

The AIA Asian Championship makes all stats available at the following address :

Stats Asian Championships

For instance, Yu Lun, do you know you are 3 from Taiwan to connect to this site?

And 79% of viewers are using Internet Explorer V.5! Most common screen resolution among viewers is 1024 x 768 (47%)...
