(WC)LAKHANI, Isha vs QUALIFIER
KREMER, Anne vs PENG, Shuai

I think it's a pretty good draw, Jankovic is the top seed but I think she's pretty tired and Maria has a win over her and they have had another tough match before. If her knee is okay she should do well.

I think the draw isn`t bad for Makiri. She needs to find a way to get back to the good form she showed in Melbourne. A couple of wins would be a nice confidence builder for her.

I see Maria is on her way to snatching defeat from victory once again. It's ridiculous that she struggles to close out matches they way she does. But I should be used to it by now. Even if she wins this match Masha will have to use up alot of energy and mental strain to win this match and that will hurt her later in the tournament.

That was a crushing way to lose the second set and I hope Maria can regroup for the third set. But I have my doubts.

Maria folding again in the third set is sad to see. :( If she can't win a match like this against an opponent like Yan then her career expectations should be lowered. The thing is she is blowing matches on hard court which her best surface. What will happen when she plays the clay court season on her worst surface? Unless Makiri finds some guts to win close matches with this could turn out to be a terrible year for her and a promising start to the year.

And if her left knee is hurting her then Masha needs to take the time off to let it heal. Or have surgery on it to repair it.

Nikkiri
Mar 4th, 2008, 04:58 PM
She needs to take a break sort her self out.. this is just not right. This time she wasted match points.

It's sad to see Maria on another one of her losing streaks and blowing matches in the process. I know some of us act like it's torture to us when she blows matches and the way she loses them. But I can't imagine how hard it is for Masha to take all these losses. :bigcry:  :smooch: She's a sweet girl and it must hurt her so much to lose so many matches she had control of. I'm starting to doubt if Maria can ever fully recover from these crushing losses. It seems like Kirilenko hasn't recovered from falling apart against Hantuchova in the Australian Open. I wish she would take a month or so off from the tour just to clear her head. And I also wish Maria would be the leader of her team and not her father Yuri. If he is in control perhaps he needs to step aside. I had hoped Eric Van Harpen would be a good coach for Makiri but he can't stop her losing ways either.

Who knows maybe Masha will struggle in most of her WTA tournaments this year yet still have her best ever year at the grand slams. Makiri is so inconsistent that this is possible.

The best and most importnat move Masha can make for her career is to start working with a sports psychologist. Maybe that can help her fragile state of mind when a lead is slipping away from her. I really feel for Maria because all these blown matches this year have to be weighing heavily on her mind.

Right now, no coach is going to stop this losing streak. It won't stop until Maria gets over the Aussie Open. She hasn't been able to close out 4 matches since then. This trend will continue until she decides that enough is enough. Maybe she needs to go the beach and not think about tennis for a few weeks. Maybe she needs to go to a sports psychologist. Maybe she needs to do both.

I still can`t believe what happened with Makiri today. This was a match that she should`ve won, but instead once again imploded mentally, especially after blowing those three match points. Right now i don`t know what else to say other than Makiri really needs to get it together mentally.

I choose both but think don't think Masha will go to the beach to get away from tennis or work with a sports psychologist. When she gets in losing ruts it's hard for Masha to break them because she plays in 1 tournament after another and stays in the rut. I can honestly say Makiri makes Anna Kournikova look like a mentally tough player. I will always hope for the best for Maria because she deserves it but I'm concerned that she will never be more than a top 30 player or maybe a top 20 player at best the rest of her career. :( But I hope I'm wrong and Maria gets it together and improves her play in close matches. Losing 4 matches in a row after winning the first set has to crushing for Masha. I hope her team can help her pick up the pieces.

And as a tennis fan it hurts to see such a sweet girl like Maria lose so many close matches she should win. Losing the occasional close match is a part of the game but to lose so many like Masha does is mindboggling. :banghead: The good news is Makiri seems like a happy girl and is enjoying her career, having some success and making some good money too on and off the court. :)

then on the 3rd match points the ball was so out but still no call!!

Maria was crying in the third and she just gave up..
