She has lost all 4 meetings. It would be great if they meet in the final (now that Monica withdrew). Your thoughts on that match-up.

Venus seems to be in better form right now so I'd pick her. But who knows maybe Capriati will be fresh and is playing great tennis.

if your weapon is power, you can never challange the Williams sisters. So i would pick Venusto be the winner.i don't see if Cappy can get into final, may be Kournikova be the surprised winner!
LOL:)

LMAO @ TeeRexx!

I also pick Venus to win if they meet in the final. And what a great final it would be!

Cappy can beat Venus if:

1) she serves well
2) returns well
3) plays more balls to the center of the court.

With that said, I don't think she'll beat Venus if they meet this week in the finals.

She can beat her, because everyone is beatable.

But whether she will do so on a consistent basis is unlikely for the time being. Venus and Jen actually have similar games and Venus does pretty much everything better. The only edge I would give to Jen is that she should be a bit fresher than Venus, given Venus' tourney win last week.
Jen needs to get a few more free points off her serve, and hope that Venus is not serving well. plus, Jen needs to be more aggressive earlier in the point.

Since she had something like 7 match points against Venus last year, sure she can beat her. Will she...who knows? I would have to say Venus is playing better than Jen right now, so i would be a bit surprised. Jen's serve and ability to stay aggressive will be the key factors if they meet up in the finals.

But I have to disagree with eshell. I don't think playing balls to the center of the court is the 'word' on the Williams sisters anymore. I am not sure if Stefano Capriati has figured this out, since Jen is still doing it at the expense of hitting a possible winner/forcing shot cross court.

I think she had a good chance at the Ericsson against Venus when she had all those matchpoints. Venus wasn't playing well at all. Her serve was off and she was overhitting. Anyone can beat anyone on any given day, so who knows?

I think Venus somewhat intimidates Jen somewhat when they play. If she can get over that mental barrier then she would have a better chance against Venus. That's why I think she prefers to play Serena, because Serena makes the player on the other side feel like they have a chance at times. When Venus gets going, it's like she gives you no hope.

Venus at erricksen was just messing about with jen cap, venus wanted to get revenage for serena and gave jen cap the match points just soo jen would feel even worse than if she got beat in straight sets...;)

balls down the middle of the court is no longer working. let me tell you. jennifer tried that at New Haven, and it didn't work. Venus and Serena know about this already, and Venus has learned to get out of her own way, or not over hit and just put the ball back in play when they do the "down the middle" play. Just like jennifer. She "worked" on her backhand that still to me really sucks, but she new that everyone always attacked that side. To me really, when she plays the williams sisters, she can't hang with the backhand to backhand ralleys. She doesn't have a good down the line back hand. She does hit it against the other players on the tour during the early rounds, but i remember asking myself why doesn't she hit it down the line against them? that is what she needs to improve to "try" and "challenge" the sisters. She needs to really really improve on her serve and backhand!

Where's the option "Venus wont get a chance to play Jenn cause Lindsay will beat her in the semi's"? ;)

Niminator - I jsut couldn't leave you without saying, "Good bye".

VENUS owns this player and should continue to dominate her for a few more matches.

jennifer still thinks she is in some way already the better player even though she always loses against Venus so unless she chaanges her attitude, she will remain the loser.

Yes, she almost neat Venus in Miami, but Venus was getting a lot of balls back and that is what counts: the last ball, not "I should have" or "I had so many chances." Also Jennifer and Hingis refuse to change their serves so until they do they are not going to get anywhere.

Yes Jen can beat Venus, Jen has a better return and forehand, and is a more scrappy, fiery competitor. She can beat Serena (or lately, always be one game away) so yes she can beat Venus because Serena is better. Venus and Jen have had four matches, one years ago that went to three sets when Jen was slow and fat, one where Jen choked, and two at the end of last year where Jen played bad. Jen played bad almost every match after her loss to Henin at Wimbledon last year, so, just like Hingis, I take Capriati's end of 2001 losses with a grain of salt. There is no reason Jen won't beat Venus when they (might) meet this week, as long as she doesn't choke again.

BTW why the hell does everyone choke against the Williams sisters? Jen, Hingis, Henin, Clijsters, how many people have just blown leads on stupid mistakes? Anyway...

...Yes, Jen can and will beat Venus, possibly this week.

Jennifer was NOT fat and slow last year. she was the best shape of her entire career. her fitness helped her win the Australian Open and the marathon match against Kim in the finals of the French Open.

Jennifer can defeat Venus, but she won't. Venus has a more powerful serve, backhand, is a better defensive player, quicker and plays more aggressively than Jennifer.

However, if Jennifer wins, I will be very surprised. Last year at the US Open, Jennifer led 4-1 in the first set, had the majority of the crowd behind her, and still couldn't pull out a win.

  oO0Oo,

Why is it that the players Venus beat, and from all accounts their games "looked" okay, are considered by you, a "choke'???? And, I don't know about your analysis of the games of Hingis and Capriati being sub-par at the end of 2001. You just can't give the Williamses credit for being the better players.  Again, your biases are f&%$#king unbelievabe.

Anyway, when Venus whips Cappy's arse ( should they meet) will you eat "crow" and let go of your stupid baseless biases????

PROBABLY NOT!!!!

Well if it isn't the Williams Wolf Pack.

"Jennifer was NOT fat and slow last year."

I said years ago, not last year.

"Why is it that the players Venus beat, and from all accounts their games "looked" okay, are considered by you, a "choke'????"

I consider choking the following:

Being up 5-3 in the third, missing a smash (Hingis/Clijsters)
Having match points (8) and losing
Having set points (7) and losing

Let's face it, the top players have choked a lot against the Williams sisters. Maybe it's because they aren't as mentally strong. I don't know. I'm still trying to find the part in here that is "offensive".

"And, I don't know about your analysis of the games of Hingis and Capriati being sub-par at the end of 2001. You just can't give the Williamses credit for being the better players."

How many titles did Capriati and Hingis have during the second half of last year? ZERO.

How many top 10 wins did Capriati and Hingis have during the second half of last year? ZERO.

They played terrible. It was the worst part of Hingis' pro career, and Capriati had gotten a bit out of shape. I don't discredit the Williams sisters for these wins. I never said that, so learn to read, okay? Simply, I take those losses at the end of 2001 for Hingis and Capriati with a grain of salt, because neither were playing well. Again, you are LOOKING FOR TROUBLE where there is none.

"will it kill you to say something decent about Venus???"

What did I say bad about Venus in this thread? Anything? Anything? www.hookedonphonics.com

On any given day, any player has a chance to beat any player. I wouldn't be surprised if Jen were to beat Venus, if Venus is not on her game. But if Venus is on, Jen don't stand a snowball's chance in hell.

 WHY YOU ASK????

MY ANSWER IS YES AND NO!!!

IT REALLY DEPENDS ON THE FOLLOWING:

- RELAXATION
- FOCUSING
- DETERMINATION
- CONFIDIENCE
- GAME PLAN

RIGHT NOW, VENUS IS AFTER THE NUMBER ONE RANKING AND SERENA HAS IT; SHE IS VERY DETERMINED AT THE MOMENT.

I DO THINK THAT JEN WILL BE DETERMINED AND HAVE A GAME PLAN. BUT, I THINK VENUS IS MORE DETERMINED.

I LIKE THEM BOTH, SO I CANNOT DECIDE: sad:

GOOD LUCK VENUS AND JEN AND JEN AND VENUS:D

o0O0o, in that case it is just too bad that Venus and Serena hust scare the shit out of Jennifer and Martina when they play. In that case, they're never gonna defeat them.
