The fucking ATP Toronto event is all over the tv like it's a fucking grand slam on a monday night...I dont blame anyone but the stupid ass WTA...though I am watching the mens event, I would love to see some action from San Diego. Why the hell wont the WTA market its product better...

Kinda like Bill Gates developing Windows and refusing to sell it...

This is a 'deLuxe' Tennis Masters series and I think ESPN has a contract to televise most of them (esp. those held in US) from beginning to end.

Of course the WTA could try to get a deal going with ESPN as well, as most of their summer hardcourt tourney's are in the US and are star studded affairs. Who knows why they don't market better. It is a shame. Not having ANY coverage from Stanford this past weekend was a JOKE!

Yeah...I don't understand why the WTA has been so late on the ball with TV coverage!
It's time for some new leadership at the WTA...the current leaders aren't doing a good job...with Serena, Venus et al on top, women's tennis should be one of the most popular sports in the U.S. right now. If it isn't, it can't be the players fault...it has to be the organization's fault!

Can one of the board member's apply for a marketing job in the WTA?

Maybe we can actually watch events on TV then... ;)

One? Marketing job?

pft, I think a coup d'etat is in order...

I think they need to pull their finger out and Promtoe the WTA game and to get more of it on TV

I agree! A coup d'etat is in order.

When the WTA is very popular in the States, there is no TV coverage for many of the Summer events.

I don't understand. ugh!

Europe seem to get much more WTA coverage than the US, eventhought the tournies are in the US right now... lol, strange.

Eurosport shown Stanford from semis, and will show Sandiego from QF.

We also get Montreal from more or less the begining then full coverage of Usopen... plus before that we have coverage of the clay season, but i got to say it was much less than last year.

The WTA couldn't promote a free piss-up in a brewery.

It's a joke Free! But it isn't funny! I've been waiting since 1997 for better cable television coverage for women's tennis. And I'm still waiting! :fiery: I've been waiting since 1997 for a weekly or monthly WTA television update show, like the one they had circa 1994. And I's still waiting! :( I keep saying 1997 because that was the year women's tennis seemed on the rise due to the great young blood they had on their hands! :D Martina Hingis, Anna Kournikova and Venus Williams were all on the way up. Then Serena Williams hit the scene in 1998. But somehow the WTA dropped the ball where cable television coverage is concerned. The men still own the cable television coverage. The women are still in the dark ages where cable television coverage is concerned for women's tennis!

And Fox Sports used to show the occasional semifinal and final on cable television and over the air Fox television. What happened to that? Women's tennis television coverage has actually gotten worse recently! And that is a disgrace :(

I swear,I would be happy if they just regularly included tennis scores on the ESPN/ESPN2 ticker tape!!!

They show ARENA football scores more often than they show tennis scores.

and god forbid you miss a score, since they seem to include them randomly, you can't take your eyes off the screen for the next 20 minutes to try and catch up.

What needs to happen is that the WTA needs to become a for profit organization owned by a major corporation like Coca Cola or something. That way, there would be incentive for the CEOs to lobby for more tv coverage, increased prizemoney, etc. Tournament dues and tv revenues would go up, and the tour could make money.

Frankly I wish we got more mens coverage, and that that in no way whatsoever got axed.

As facinated as I would be to see early rounds of Venus, Jenn and whoever else waxing their opponents- give me Tim Henman and David Nalbandian or Pete and Tommy in the 3rd round anyday.

IMO the early round matches with the women that are interesting, aren't the ones that will be televised. Rarely is there a match worth watching with the top players untill the weekend or so.

But yes, that is just my opinion. SOme of you enjoy 6-1 6-0 matches, some of us enjoy a real titanic tennis match.

I lost track - what i was trying to say was that alright I wish that womens tennis got more coverage, I dont wish that it be takien away from the mens.

I agree with Becca, no way should men's matches be cut down on... but there are definitely matches in the women's draw in the early rounds worth watching, especially those between lower ranked players. But the problem is that the TV networks only show top 10 players, and their early round matches are hardly competitive.

That is the thing though - they won't show the matches that are good -

They will show Venus, Jenn and gang all pummel people untill the quarters (and even then often pummel people).

Franly those matches turn me off womens tennis.

If they could show the matches that were actually good, it would be worth my time.

Oh, but they did do that once, yes ONCE, during Wimbledon...

They showed Mary vs Molik which went to 8-6 in the 3rd... the rest they showed were blow-outs...

Sad, considering that there were a great many matches that went to 3 sets in the first few rounds.

That's why men's tennis is stronger in the earlier rounds, the top players lose more than 3 games in a match... ;)

Becca, I think you have a point but I feel like the men's personalities are so deflated that they get boring to watch. I like to watch their tennis though, because it seems they play at a higher level against each other in the early rounds. I would think it be appropriate for the WTA to show the good matches instead of the trouncings, but the reality is that the fan's want to see the stars play also. It's complex, because on one hand you have dominant players who have easy matches earlier. Then you have players who play at a lower level which doesn't produce great tennis all the time. I think in the next few years it will improve, because their are players now who are getting better.

I will say that I was dissapointed in the coverage of Accura, and BOTW. It seems that the WTA is taking a step backwards when they don't fight for more coverage. Deng, at least start coverage from the qtrs til the finals.
