Well, not bad for a player who was said not even to get into the top 75 on this board a few days ago.

Good win Ashley.

Ashley will learn a lot from playing Capriati, and I hope she does herself justice:)

Why can't someone celebrate a good win without so much negativity?

Good job Ashley! Good luck in the rest of the tournament...

No, it's just that, there are MANY up and coming Americans, but people are way too devoted to Ashley.

It's because Ashley has the most promise out of all the up and coming Americans and has had the best juniors results.

If Cory Ann or Ally (or any other young American) won a maindraw event we would be in here celebrating just as much.

Is that a bellybutton ring? Cool!

Anyways, Rita IS a good player, so this is a pretty impressive win by Ashley, who I assumed was mostly hype. I still don't see Ashley being a Grand Slam contender (just my humble opinion), but she could turn out to be a Shaugnessy-Frazier kind of player and make the Top 20. Tennis could always use more cute players at the top level, so I hope she gets there.

Great result Ashley!!! Rita is a very good player and this is nothing to sneeze at! I have yet to see Ashley play but I remember reading that she is more of a tactical player (a la Hingis) than a pure power player- can anyone verify this?

Thats what I heard also, she practices with Martina occasionally and trys to play a similar game.

Good win for Ashley.
She won the ITF $50K challenger in Los Gatos-San Jose a few weeks ago...she must like California. :)

That's great... but she ought to hurry up, some of her peers already have titles at this age.

some players develop faster than others...

ashley has struggled with the direction of her game. In the beginning she was a very tactical player, with much success, then she switched to trying to be a power player, big mistake, which she realized by the lack success with this tactic. Since she has gone back to her Hingis like play, she has had much more success.

Only time will tell...u never know what the future holds...

Myriam, Dinara and Vera could end of journey women and Ashley a top player...u just never know what the future holds for these young players
