Clay Court Queen Kirilenko Arrives in Strasbourg with newfound Mental Strength

http://tennisinfoblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/12/russian-maria-kirilenko.jpg

Maria Kirilenko, rising star on the ATC (and justifying the award for "Breakthrough Player of Season Two" bestowed upon her by her fellow colleagues on tour in the offseason) has had a hot start to the clay season in Season Two of ATC, compiling an impressive 9-1 record with a championship run in Amelia Island and backing it up with a run to the Rome final before Kim Clijsters rang the alarm on her.

So what has caused this dramatic career rebound? Afterall, it was just last year that Kirilenko's Clay Court Campaign went like this:

S1-Amelia Island 1R LOSS 6-7 6-2 7-5
S1-Rome 1R LOSS 6-0 4-6 7-6
S1-Strasbourg 1R LOSS 4-6 6-4 7-6

"You know, it was tough, it really tested my confidence. I played against three clay court specialists and I just lost the plot in the tight moments of these matches. I mean, I don't like clay, so I thought I could just soldier on the rest of the season but things didn't really improve. I was brimming with confidence at the start of this season, as I trained really hard on Rebound Ace, but I was just a disaster and only won one match.

While I was packing after an early exit at Melbourne, I saw an informercial on TV that really changed my life. That's when I discovered:

http://www.multiplestreamsclub.com/images/LifeCoachBox.jpg
Caption: The secret to Maria's success: Life Coach in a Box!"

Life coach in a box! It's given me the mental confidence and support I need on and off the court!

Now when I look at Nathalie Dechy across the net, like last week at Rome, and it's 5-5 in the third, I don't think to myself "OMG what I could do with this girl on extreme makeover, and look at her hair, it looks like a bird planted a nest on top of her big head", which is what used to go through my head in these moments, but now I'm able to go, "Maria, ace this whack ass bitch off the court NOW". And you know what, that new mentality really works!

Life coach in a box also comes with a lot of scenario cards and tips for real life situations on court. For instance, the blue card is one of my favorites - "What is Jelena Jankovic's weakness?" You know, before, I'd say "Plastic surgery that doesn't really help" but now I know that I really should be attacking that bad second serve!

I recommend life coach in a box to anyone who's looking to get that extra boost on court. If I can pick the scraps of a trainwreck career off the ground and get back on track, anyone can. It also helps in all other aspects of your life - I bring it to concerts, movie theaters, the grocery store and when I visit my sister in law. It gets me through really tense moments. Try it today!

Strasbourg Women's Doubles Tier (III)

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b241/FlamingoSpice/stras.jpg

Welcome to Strasbourg ladies! Last week we saw newcomers Elena Dementieva and Nicole Vaidisova stun French duo Nathalie Dechy and Amelie Mauresmo in the finals of Rome to capture their first doubles title. However in the rankings, the team of Jelena Jankovic/Martina Hingis still reign sumpreme. Will any team be able to change that this week?

-Women's Doubles Draw-

(1)Jelena Jankovic/Martina Hingis vs. Flavia Pennetta/Tamarine Tanasugarn

(3) Nathalie Dechy/Amelie Mauresmo vs. Anna Kournikova/Maria Kirilenko

(4) Ana Ivanovic/Ai Sugiyama vs. Maria Sanchez Lorenzo/Gisela Dulko

Nathalie, I knew you had a good side to you! Great point about not trying anything different. I've tried something different in this game maybe five times. Had I tried everything more frequently, I might've had a title by now. I really don't expect to be the best. I just try to go for small goals, like winning a match, then winning a tournament, then winning a few, then winning a Slam, and then trying to reach that number one.

Whew, a very tight match but the third seeds get the job done, barely. Nat/Momo played an okay match, but need to turn up the heat and show that they want to win. In the third set, there were no breaks in the first 8 games, at 4-4, Anna/Masha K broke Amelie's serve and had a match point but they couldn't convert it into a win. Nat/Momo fought back to win the next 3 games to take the match and advance to the quarterfinals. And with their win, they could become the world's new number one ranked doubles team if Lena/Nic loose their match. Anna/Masha.

Maria/Dulko advance in France
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b241/FlamingoSpice/estoril2006-3-2.jpg

Strasbourg, France
Maria Sanchez Lorenzo and Gisela Dulko took on 4th seeds Ana Ivanovic and Ai Sugiyama today on Centre Court. Ana and Ai have been a great team together posting some great wins, but were outplayed today against the Spanish/Argentinian duo.
Set 1, Maria and Gisela took an early lead breaking Ai at love to be up 3-0. Gisela was then broken right back when Ai hit an impressive drop volley winner. Ana and Ai fought back to eventually level the set at 4-4, with impressive volleys and reflexes. At 4-4, Ana served 4 big serves that Ai at net was able to put away the short returns quickly for an easy win. Maria served at 4-5, and Ana was attacking the serve with her forehand and the 4th seeds broke to take the set 6-4.
Set 2, Maria and Gisela came out with a new gameplan to attack Ana at net. Gisela and Maria's gameplan worked well as they broke Ai and held their service games comfortably. At 5-2, Gisela was in a great game that had 3 deuces and was won by Maria/Gisela when on set point they attacked Ai at net to take the set 6-2.
Set 3, both teams had long games, but were successful as they both held serves til 5-5. Ai was serving and Gisela drilled groundstrokes at Ana to give them the break to lead 6-5. Maria served 2 aces and Ana hit 2 errors to give Maria/Gisela their second doubles win on tour.
Maria and Gisela have struggles to put singles wins together, but they have made the semis here and the Quarters last week, so they are getting better together and next will take on new world #1s Vaidisova/Dementieva, who won Rome last week. Maria/Gisela go in the underdogs, but will also go in fighting for another win.

What amazing play from both teams! Maria/Gise were much more prepared this time and it made all the difference, they had enough energy to push past any sort of comeback their opponents had planned and they advance to their first final where they'll take on third-seeded Nathalie Dechy and Amelie Mauresmo! Congrats ladies! Lena/Nic :hug: Good luck at Roland Garros!

:o That was simply a beatdown. Without a doubt, Nat/Momo were ready for what Maria/Gise were going to throw out them and they were able to counterpunch beautifully and make the most aggressive team on tour look easy. I'm simply in awe of how well Nat/Momo came out and took care of buisness to claim their first doubles title. Congrats ladies! You two are the new world's number one ranked doubles team! Maria/Gise.:hug: You reached a final and had amazing wins but today just wasn't your day. You just got out of playing a hellish match against Lena/Nic, it's good to have this final under your belt though. Good luck at Roland Garros both teams! Rankings will be updated soon!
