(1) Justine Henin (BEL) vs Bye
Anne Kremer (LUX) vs Na Li (CHN)
Qualifier vs Kateryna Bondarenko (UKR)
Eleni Daniilidou (GRE) vs (6)Agnes Szavay (HUN)

(3)Daniela Hantuchova (SVK) vs Bye
Shuai Peng (CHN) vs (WC)Yanina Wickmayer (BEL)
Olga Govortsova (BLR) vs Qualifier
Qualifier vs (7)Alona Bondarenko (UKR)

(5)Sybille Bammer (AUT) vs Yaroslava Shvedova (RUS)
Karin Knapp (ITA) vs Nathalie Dechy (FRA)
(WC)Caroline Maes (BEL) vs Ai Sugiyama (JPN)
Bye vs (4)Patty Schnyder (SUI)

(8)Agnieszka Radwanska (POL) vs Elena Likhovtseva (RUS)
Dominika Cibulkova (SVK) vs Tzipora Obziler (ISR)
Meilen Tu (USA) vs Qualifier
Bye vs (2)Anna Chakvetadze (RUS)

That's a very weak field for a Tier II (contrast it with the last Stuttgart field, for instance). Li and Sugiyama strike me as the only remotely dangerous unseeded players, this really is a glorified tier three. Seeing that Hantuchova and Szavay are on the other side of the draw, Anna is the clear favorite to make the final from the bottom half.

I think Anna's draw just got a whole lot better. I have heard a rumour that Radwanska will not be playing Antwerp. I hope this is not the case as i was looking forward to a match between two of my faves :D

Apparantly, Rawanska is replaced in the seedings by Na Li. Does this mean that she moves into Aga's spot of the draw. Either way, i definately think Chaky can make the final here if she isnt too tired from her matches in Paris this week :worship:

Yes, she does. The only change in the draw is Na Li moves to Ratwanska's spot :)

"In the second set I had so many unforced errors. I had problems with my shoulder. Yesterday I called my trainer because of my hip. I guess I'm getting older," said Chakvetadze who said that she was uncertain whether she will be fit to compete in Antwerp next week.

I hope she can play  The draw is too good for withdrawing!

She won't play until Wednesday at the earliest so she can see how it goes. Problem is she's defending SF points so to not play would be a blow to her hopes of overtaking Maria in the rankings.

She plays Antwerp too? AO-Fed Cup-Paris-Antwerp, without rest? I hope she know what shes doing...

If Anna is still feeling sore on monday she should pull out of Antwerp to rest her injuries. She needs to be healthy this year to try to defend her points from last year.

I know Anna was having some soreness in her shoulder, but with proper rest and some treatments over the next couple of days, hopefully she will be already to go for this tournament. It looks like another good draw and she is playing pretty good now too. I'm excited to see Anna go deep into this tournament. :)

Also hoping for success indoors this week is Russian second seed Anna Chakvetadze, winner of the Paris Indoors last weekend.
It was the seventh title in a row for the 20-year-old who stands sixth in the world.
Like Henin and most of the rest of the game's elite, Chakvetadze is also keen to do well in Beijing.
"The Olympics are really important for me. After the French Open I know if I've made the team, we have so many Russian players.
"Of course I want to go to Bejing. I don't see the Olympic Games as something for the individual sportsman, but as an opportunity to win a medal for your country."
The second seed begins on Thursday against Swede Sofia Arvidsson.

Chakvetadze: 'Hopefully recovered enough'

Anna Chakvetadze is in good shape. Last week, the Russian won the Paris tournament and she wants to shine at the Proximus Diamond Games as well.

"On Monday I took a day off to rest", the Russian number 6 of the world said. "My week in Paris had been really tough with various three set matches. On Tuesday, I trained a bit to be able to get accustomed to the court. I hope I recovered well. After a win, confidence is always firm."

Chakvetadze has a clear purpose for 2008. "I will have to focus more on the major moments like the Grand Slams. One cannot be performing at a full 100 percent for a whole year."

"I can still improve a lot. My service and return can definitely get better. I also have to play more aggressively and move to the net more."

The Olympics? "They are really important for me. After the French Open I will know whether I can go or not. Of course I want to go to Beijing. It would be my first time. I don't see the Olympic Games as something for the individual sportsman, but as an opportunity to offer your country a medal."

I hope Anna can have a great spring right up through the French Open. I really want to see her in the Olympics this year. If she is there I will be heavily rooting for the Russian team. :worship:

Damn damn damn ...

I really hoped on seeing her play this weekend in Antwerp, but now
the fun of getting there is over by this defeat ..

Pitty the pain in her back was killing her, you could clearly see on her
face that she was in some serious pain.

PS: There sure aren't many fans who showed up, the facility was rather empty for the 2nd best
player in the list playing. Weird :o

You could see already in Paris that she does not want to go to Antwerp.

You can't play good in an empty court. I'm happy that it is the last time of this tournament.

Now to playing in Doha there is no anything to defend, an opportunity to get into the Top5.

We will see what happens!!!

I hope Anna's healthy, because there's big money from Doha thru Miami.

I'm sad to see her lose, but not sad to see her get some time off. She really needs the rest before her next tournament to recover from the injuries that she had occur from the last tourney.
Get well soon Anna!

I thought if Anna played Sofia today, Li Friday, Dani Saturday then Justine, she would have been wiped out for next week.
If she's okay physically, at least she will be ready for Doha, which pays IW money.

Now it is time to rest for Anna as she looked exhausted today , she should not play in Antwerpen at all IMO. I hope she will recover and ready for Doha.

It seems like Anna is hurting all over at the moment. It was her hip, then her shoulder, now her back. She needs a rest.

I saw about two or three games of today's match. Anna's mind was elsewhere. She looked like she didn't want to be there. Who can blame her? This tournament's day sessions suffer from a total absence of atmosphere. Sparse crowds in a vast arena don't exactly inspire a great performance.

At least Anna won't have any points to drop next year now this tourny is finishing.

She seems to have built her schedule around points to defend rather than what is most sensible for her body in terms of recovery and rest. Playing this many weeks in a row is not good. Doha has lots of prize money but also a very very strong field. Who knows whether Anna will turn up in a state to compete to the best of her ability?

You gotta admit that tickets aren't exactly cheap .. :o that's what keeps a lot of fans from watching it live. I wanted to go this weekend to see her play (thinking this Arvidsson match
would be a piece of cake)... and now i feel sorry i wasn't there to support her .. One Republic would say "It's too late to apologize" Nevertheless: Sorry Anna !

And yes, after the back injury she clearly didn't look like she wanted to play anymore, but she never gave up, she's a true fighter, even through the pain. That's why i'm a big fan
of her and i'll get her back anytime, anywhere, anyplace ..

Vamos Anna!

 Poor Anna, that picture of her with the trainer just makes me really sad. She looks like she is in such discomfort. I really hope she is able to get a week or so of rest now and I hope that is enough to get her back into shape. If not I hope she pulls out of her next tournament. I still don't want to see her push herself to hard and get a much longer term injury that could plague her into the slams or even worse cause her to not be able to play in the Olympics or FedCup.
