Remember about 2 months ago when I said that in my opinion Kim Clijsters has the potential to be Venus' nemesis? I based it on the fact that she's very quick, she has power and that she can force Venus into error by returning a lot of balls. I'm talking about THIS COMBINATION:

Incredible quickness and defensive skill

Great power and offensive game

Their head-to-head is 1-1 and today Kim has the opportunity to move ahead. Good luck to Kim!

Kim Clijsters, Venus' nemesis? Are you out of your mind?
Venus is at the peak of her game and has a solid potential of
reaching and winning every tournament she enters. With this,
nobody, past or present even including her sister will be
venus' nemesis.
When Justine played Venus for the first time, many people thought Justine was the next mesiah since Hingis, Davenport
Capriati and Seles competition against Venus was fading away
but that was never meant to be. Clijsters herself will never
agree with your analysis on this subject. Expect Venus to win
more matches today and in the future.

Every time I see Kim sliding in a pic it makes me cringe.

Kim is a good match up for Venus, she gets everything back forcing Venus to make one extra shot, which is something she doesn't like to do.

I won't predict anything though, cos whenever I do that I always end up being wrong and looking stupid;)

If Kim could train 100% then she would have 50% chance to win, now it's 70% for Venus and 30% for Kim.

Well guys, I guess chings just demonstrated to us why we should never underestimate stupidity. From now on, just to spell it out for the less-than-intelligent people reading these boards, I suggest that everyone make sure to write "Kim Cheering Thread Only please" so that there is no excuse for someone who obviously does not watch tennis (hello Serena has won all 3 of the Williams-Williams matches this year what the H*ll are you talking about that not even her sister can be a nemisis?) to post a big load of Kim hating garbage in a Kim loving thread. I think that a healthy Kim certainly has a great chance to do well against Venus, and she proved that by winning Hamburg over Vee. However, this being a hardcourt, and Kim being less than 100%, I will not get my hopes up that she will beat Venus, because I think I would be disappointed. However, C'Mon Kim! Just do your best and make it a good match!

I hope Kim can do something spectacular at Stanford, but I predict Venus in 1 easy and 1 tough set

Goooooooooooooooo Kim!!!!!!!!

I like Kim and hope she and Venus have good matches in future but I think Venus needs to be a bit off for Kim to win. Suppose you could say that for Venus versus anyone though. Hope Venus wins but good luck to both ladies.

For me, the really good news out of Stanford is that Kimmie made the finals. That must mean her shoulder problems are under control for the moment.:) No matter what happens today, hopefully Kim can do well this summer and well at the Open. So, good luck to both ladies.:wavey:

Mboyle,
I don't know how well you uderstand the word "NEMESIS".
My arguement was not that Venus has not been beaten by
anyone. Yes someone has beaten her this year three times,
one whom happen be her sister. But in that case you can not
even consider Serena Venus' nemesis.
You now demonstrating to us the level of your understanding
and stupidity. Some of you just hide from your parents to post
all kinds of bullshit on this board without having the understanding of few basic words.

I hope her shoulder is better, but look at the way she slides on hard courts! That is an accident waiting to happen, whats wrong with that girl!?!

Anyway, I like Kim but since she is playing the Queen of the WTA my loyalties must lie with Venus. Sure Kim has a chance, I mean they are both 1-1, but I'll go with the four time grandslam winner who seems to be back at the top of her game. Besides I'm sure Venus is looking for Serious revenge after Kim had that spectacular comeback win in Germany.

GO VENUS AND WAFFLE THAT BELGIAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 Sorry guys, I didn't realize this was a "Kim only cheering thread". I will, however, be careful not to do it again in the future.

But, since I'm here, and their seems to be a lot of anti-Venus (Venus envy?) in here, I'll say my say and move on. You guys can't have it both ways, either Kim is injured or she isn't. If she's injured fine, but don't blame any losses on "injury" because it'll only seem like "excuses". If indeed she is injured, she shouldn't or wouldn't be playing. So a loss is a loss. Pure and simple.

And, I am not bashing Kim, I just hope the better player on the day wins. Good luck to both players.:hearts: :hearts: :hearts: :hearts:

This isnt a Kim cheering thread P. Just look at the title. Anyway the whole injury thing is pretty moot. If a player is truly injured they have the option to retire, if they dont retire then obviously the injury was not hampering them too much.

:wavey: :wavey: Hi Cybelle:hearts: :hearts:

I know it isn't a cheering thread for Kim, but, Mboyle was just so adamant that it was, I just had to needle him/her about it. Anyway, you're absolutely right about the injury though, I just don't want to hear anyone using it as an "excuse" for a Kimmie loss.

See ya later, Cybelle:hearts: :hearts:

Is Kim injured? Yes.

Would she be out there if she didn't think she could win? No.

So if Kim loses, she lost. That's all there is to it. If an inury is bothering her, she just shouldn't play. I have no patience for 'injuries' or a 'bad stomach' that pops up after losses.

That being said, Kim has the best court coverage and defensive skills in the game, amazing power, a good serve and return, and great finesse. If she would stop sending shots meters long, she would be one of the best, for sure.

I hope Kim wins today and I expect a tough match for both players. Kim is a great player who will be a tough opponent for anybody for years to come. So much of Venus's matches against players like Kim depends on how well Venus is serving. That will be the key to the match. Venus served really well against Raymond, but can she do it again today? Probably....but Kim will put a lot more on her 2nd serve returns than Lisa did, so Venus will really need to keep her 1st serve percentage very high. Probably a 3 setter, hopefully going Kimmie's way!!!

Some people only wants Williams to loose, not matter who is in front of her:rolleyes:

Of course, Kim can beat her, she did it actually, but the title of this thread is HEAD TO HEAD, just a statistic, and the poster started saying how can Kim defeat Venus:rolleyes: ( a little biased, maybe?)

mboyle, if you are Sooooooo clever, you shouldn't be around here with us , the ignorant people:p

Come on everybody, I know you are mad V & S are in the top of the game, there is no reason to loose control everyday (see a doctor:kiss: )

You guys are taking things out of context.

I never said that Kim is currently Venus' nemesis or that if she wins today's match that it will mean that she's Venus' nemesis

I said that "in my opinion", Kim has the perfect game that could trouble Venus, she hits with power but also have incredible defensive skills and court coverage that could frustrate Venus.

Every player eventually meets a certain player who's game gives them trouble. It's about how games match-up together, it has nothing to do with Kim's record or accomplishements against others. For example, Martinez is 4-1 against Navratilova, yet she's 1-21 against Seles. It just depends on the styles and in my opinion Kim's game might give trouble to Venus and that she could end up with a winning record against her. Like I said, it's not about Kim being better then Venus, it's about a certain match-up and I'm not taking anything away from Venus. Venus will eventually meet a player who troubles her wether it's Kim or someone else.

If someone's game is going to give Venus trouble, it's not Kim. The trouble maker for Venus are Justin and Amelie.

In my opinion, kim beat venus on clay which is kims fave surface, and venus beat kim on hardcourts which is venus' fave surface (arguably grass)...Venus took it to 3 on her worst surface and kim lost pretty easily to a surface she is average on...so if venus is playing anywhere near her level that she played at the US Open, i think venus will win...

In response to LucasArg, I don't consider myself in any way superior to the average poster on this board. I mean I don't even know anyone! I did feel that Ching's comments were slightly malicious, and I tried to isolate him and point out that maybe if he felt that way he should start his own thread. I fully agree with o0O0o. He put it perfectly.

my bad...i guess i mean kim does well on clay...by the way whta is her fave surface???

Kim has little chance against Venus on hardcourts... Venus' relatively bad footwork is not exposed on this surface, and she just overpower Kim on hardcourts. The result showed just that.
