She might drop in the rankings next week but it won't be too bad. She's losing 7 points from last year but has already picked up 2 in this week's qualifying. Besides, last week, she earned 19 points, which is almost as many as she had all last year(!), and she moved up 117 spots (556 to 439, a new career-high ranking).

Also, she has an excellent chance to keep going up in the rankings the rest of this year. After this week, she's only defending *2* points until December!

Unfortunately if someone pulls out Kiszczynska will get in as LL cause she's #350 or something. Still, two straight sets wins and a loss to 2nd seed of qualies isn't a bad result - 2 more points in the ranks.

Too bad she lost. Still, she was only defending one point from last year so she'll actually go up in the rankings. Also, she only has six points to defend until next February, which should be very easy for her to do.

Good luck on your next tournament, Ana!

Great news guys. Looks like Kiszczynska already left Zlin and Ana got LL spot.
Main draw R1
Savic - Hradecka

Iako sam izgubila u finalu kvalifikacija protiv vrlo dobre Nizozemke, ušla sam u glavni turnir. Zadovoljna sam igrama u prva dva kola. Potom slijedi turnir u Zagrebu(75+H), kaže Ana.

I didn't even know they've been working together (shame on me, I know)...

Anyway, I'm a sucker for underdogs so I'll cheer for Ana today also. And she's from Slavonija (part of Croatia) same as me, so there's another reason:lol:

Jele will have experience on her side, but Ana'll have the fact that she knows Jele's game better than she knows Ana's so it'll be interesting.

With her 1st round win Ana is somewhere around #385 in the rankings (passed Ivana Abramovic), and if she beats Jelena she'll be around #360 (passing Martic, being just 5 points behind Sprem, 8 behind Lisjak and 13 behind Marija Abramovic). Her tactics of not playing too much, but playing quality stuff seems to be paying off. I must admit I was a bit sceptical about her form after 6 weeks of rest following tournaments in Japan.

Good luck Ana!:bounce:

If she loses in R2 here she most probably will, but if she gets to QF or further it's unlikely, cause she probably won't make the MD in Zagreb. In case of a MD WC it's another story, but there are many Croatian girls playing good enough at the moment to expect one.

Just two more withdrawals and she'll be seeded in qualies there - very possible!

Currently 8th in quali list!

She's also on Ashland 50k quali list for the week of 22nd. So just by qulifying for both of these she would go up some 30 places! And she's not defending any points untill late November.

Looking forward to next week's draws - Ana and Jelena P. here, Jelena K. in Sofia 100k, Martic, Sprem and Ozegovic in Mestre 50k!

Albuquerque quali draw is out, Ana is 7th seed and in the 1st round plays 19 y.o. Lena Litvak; a girl ranked 492 (career high 465), who played just 4 main draws on ITF's bigger than 10k this year, and who's seasons best result is QF of one Mexican 25k that she reached from qualies. I think Ana should have no problems there.

Her opponent in QR2 will be the winner of Mami Inoue (29 y.o. ranked 989; career high 655) vs. Kim-Anh Nguyen (25 y.o. unranked, career high 531), which she should also win (even more easily), but in QR3 she'll probably have to beat the top seed of qualies, 20 y.o. Georgie Stoop, ranked 266, with a career high ranking of 254 - not an easy task to qualify for MD, but let's take it one step at a time;)

Good luck Ana:wavey:

With this win, Ana will move up to around 340. It also puts her within striking distance of the top 300. She only needs about 15-18 more ranking points to break through.

She next plays Tatishvili, for a place in the SF. Tatishvili is probably too strong for Ana but we can always hope for the best. Good luck, Ana--you're going to need it!

In R2 she plays Mircic (SRB; #287, career-high #249). If Ana plays as well as she did today, this is winnable. Mircic is good but hasn't been all that strong lately. She even got bageled by Gehrlein last month, 06 67.

If Ana wins her next match, she'll be right on the cut-off into the top 300. Either way, this year has been a tremendous improvement for her (her 2007 season-end ranking was #678).

Ana doesn't have money to travel, she doesn't have sponsors and that's why she was playing only this Croatin futures and Makarska. BTW- looks like she didn't got WC for Zagreb.

That's terrible that Ana doesn't have money/sponsors and it's too bad that she didn't get a MD WC into Zagreb. I feel bad for her. However, why didn't she play Zagreb qualies? A bus ticket/lodging/food wouldn't be prohibitively expensive. She would have been seeded and could have picked up six points if she had qualified...

that is terrible news...still don't understand why she couldn't play zg qualies...the draw is very weak

Maybe she felt offended... I can understand that. I don't know who the 3rd wild card is, but for sure Ana deserved one, due to her financial problems and good results which she achieves when she has a chance to play. Miss Majoli and HTS :armed:

Really hope her situation get's better soon :help:

what happened with Ana ?

I have seen her in Torun last year, she was definitely the most promising player i have seen that day !! such a great shots

anyone knows why she is not playing now ?

In interviews that she gave this year, she said the reason were finances, cause she lacks sponsors so traveling expenses are pretty high, especially if you're out of form. She didn't say anything conclusive about whether or not she'll continue playing. I remember that she didn't play qualies of a challenger in our capital, cause she said she didn't have the money to travel - and that's not even THAT expensive, so there are obviously some big problems for her. She also didn't travel to the Czech Republic for Zlin challenger. She was also partially coached by Iva Majoli which probably wasn't cheap, so who knows if she can move on. Hope so.

It's sad to see that she was on a career-high ranking just this past February and now you don't see her anywhere. Two months later she won her last match, against none other than her promising compatriot Ajla Tomljanovic. Then Ana disappeared, while Ajla went on to win 16 out of her next 24 matches, reaching almost as high ranking as Ana did in February. Fingers crossed that she comes back.

or more likely she had motivation problems.. with a looks and potential that she has I think it wouldn't be problem to find a sponsor

no, i doubt it was motivation. she would then probably play and stink.

Well, Ana's comeback is off to an excellent start :cheer:

In QR1 of the $10K Antalya starting this weekend she destroyed the #6 seed, Nicola Slater (#737) 61 61.

In QR2 she beat Taisiya Zakarlyuk (NR) 64 60.

FQR is against the #15 seed, Stefania Rubini (#1003). Good luck, Ana!

I'm not sure about going all the way because she had to qualify as well and we can only speculate how prepared she is phisically. But knowing her abilities I'd be happy with QF or better here (she's clearly too good for 10k's and in normal circumstances she'd blast this whole field).

Ana is for sure too good for $10Ks. It will take her a few tournaments to get her ranking back up but if she plays a regular schedule we should be seeing her in $25Ks before not too long.
