View Full Version : If Serena if thinking of playing in the ATP

Fingon

She better forgets it.

I was today in the qualifying for the Canadian Open, I saw some players practicing and there was a sort of exhibition/practice between Krajicek and El Aynouyi (sp?)

Well, at some point they started to hit the ball hard, and I mean hard, I've seen Serena on that very same court last year and her groundstrokes were pooof compared to that.

I also saw Marat Safin hitting with Kafelnikov and that's hitting hard, I don't think any woman would have a slightly remote chance to even put pretend to return those shots, and Kafelnikov had no problems, with would mean he would have a real easy time returning Serena's groundstrokes.

I saw Greg Rusedski serving and a player I don't know returning his serves very well, we are talking of a player who serves consistenly overy 135 mphs, and he was trying to serve hard.

This is not putting down Serena by any means, and of course I knew this before watching this guys, but I think that the people (and the media) that think she would have a chance in the ATP should get to see some ATP matches and have a reality check :p

Who ever said she had a chance? Are things being resuscitated from several lifetimes ago?

Justine would probably suffer a terrible injury if she could even put her racquet on the ball, it would probably slam her against the wall.

Was this thread created to, like, enlighten us or something? I mean, this subject is as dead as a freaking doorknob already. Who really gives a shit whether Serena, WTA's world #1, would make a splash or become victim of a wipeout on the ATP tour? She's doing just fine where she is, don't-'cha-think?

I am sorry I didn't know we were writing a thesis for a PHD in hardware and every single thread needed to have a subliminal purpose.

First, for your small mind, many people have been asking how Serena would do in the ATP.

Second, Serena herself said she wanted to play in the ATP, maybe she was joking but it deserved and official response from the ATP tour.

Third, I start thread on whatever my ass is feeling, if you don't like it, tooooo bad, I have never read anything worth to read from you, so why don't you just do the same?

If I fucking want to diss you beloved goddess, I will without asking you and if you feel I should be banned just e-mail the administrators, you have my bless for that.

Who gives a shit about how Serena would behave at the ATP? I do, you don't, I couldn't care less, who give a shit about your feelings anytime somebody dares to mention Serena's sacred name? I don't certainly.

BE realistic, do u really thinks she will? ast time I checked serena was not that stupid. You just want her to leave so she can stop dominating. Why in the hell does she wanna leave when she's doin a grip of crap on the WTA.

Dang folks are getting mighty desperate to find an answer to the Princess of Power when they are looking to the ATP. Serena is that awesome.....well I guess she is. Never have I witnessed fans constantly comparing lady players to men! Even got Johnny Mac challenging them. Well forget about it, Venus and Serena will stay in the WTA and dominate ! They will win the tierI's, slams, and tour championships. So just get used to it. :p

:cough:

BY far, the funniest thing about this thread, is seeing some of the very same people who always write threads about how the ATP is rubbish and the women serve as hard, run as fast, hit as hard etc etc - in here saying "who was talking about the atp "

THANKyou, I needed the laugh as I'm bored out of my tree.

Perhaps cause lady players never asked to play on the ATP before?

Thanks freethinker, you are the voice of reason here :)

Actually what I wanted to emphasize is the huge difference in power between the men and the women and the reason why I picked Serena were
1) it has been a lot of talk on how Serena would do in the ATP
2) She is the hardest hitter in the women's tour.

And Daniel, I don't really know if you are being serious or not, if you are you need to stop living in a bubble.

I want Serena to play in the ATP so she stops dominating?
huh???

I would rather want her to become an astronaut because there are more chances.

maybe your life is built around Serena, mine isn't, I can live with Serena winning. I am not trying to get Serena to play in the ATP and I don't think I have the power to do that, duh!

some people are just... nevermind.

he he he... at this rate, this thread will be one of those other ones who are being constantly locked.

Look, most of you are being really hard on the thread creator; he just, probably, finished writing a thesis on "hardware", and suddenly this huge insight hit him - serena will get destroyed on the ATP tour. Now, that may not be a surprise for most of you, but I am sure it is for some. So, please stop being judgmental.

Yeah, I really need a life - I should stop writing garbage on MBs.

Once again, another pointless and ridiculous thread. With idle speculation that amounts to nothing because 1) serena or any female tennis player would never play on the atp 2) they wouldn't want to.

I mean really, to go back to some joke she made way back in 1998? what is the point? She and venus even played a guy and lost, so what? no one expected them to win!

why not put laila ali in the ring with mike tyson and see how she does?

Ok, let's try to reason here.

Everyone under 3 years old go to bed, no wait, nobody will be left here

Nobody over 4 years old is "suggesting" that Serena should play in the ATP, nobody over 4 years old understood it that way, just ask an adult like freethinker.

Have you ever talked in a figurative sense? huh?, so, we can't talk about something that is not going to happen?

Is speculation/comparissons forbidden?

Has it never passed through your mind? how would a woman play against a man?, it has been in the mind of many, they even actually did that (BJK vs Bobby Riggs).

Have you ever seen a movie? read a book?, talk about something that doesn't exist?, have you ever talked about how would you live in Mars? not that it's actually gonna happen.

the hyppersensibility, immaturity and stupidity of some people is really amazing, someone can't make a point because it's immediately a hater.

Some people gave the word stupid a new meaning in this thead, suggesting that there is a big conspiracy to get Serena to play in the ATP, AND THEY ARE ACTUALLY SERIOUS!!!

Cyber, I really believed you were way more mature, sorry, I was wrong, here's your candy.

IMO you started this thread to cause needless controversy and nothing else. Bravo because you have succeeded. Feel proud now?

To emphasize my point: what if I started a "martina hingis called momo half a man thread" or "Justine is such a mental headcase she can't even win a big tournament thread" or how about a "capriati and her fed cup fiasco is a shame to american tennis thread". see where I'm going with this brining up old issues that have been discussed at length? why not go peruse old threads if you were dying for this topic, because they are there if you go look.

Naive? I don't know, oversensitive and immature, a lot.

I don't see where I am attacking Serena or saying anything negative about her. The point is that some fans are so oversensitive and stupid that can't stand anyone naming their favourite, it's a kind of religion and it's a sin to name then.

I just find it highly ironic that you are doing exactly what other posters where doing with justine a few months ago. Namely, bringing up crap that was long ago discusses as if it has suddenly become topical again. I would take the time to dredge up your old posts where you were "oversensitive" and child like in your defense of justine, but why bother? It's definitely not worth my time. However i will voice my opinion whenever I feel a poster is stirring up trouble just to be a trouble maker ie this thread.

Fans are not oversensitive we just recognize when a hater who cannot find a player in the WTA to challenge the #1 player, especially Justine, goes outside the ladies tour looking. Your are free to start any stupid thread you wish but we are also free to challenge you on it. As for Williams' fans being on your list, that says alot about you to even believe anyone cares.

I can't see anything wrong with Fingon's opening thread. He's just relaying what he's seen with his own eyes and he's more than justified in relaying this because this men vs women thingy has been the subject of many heated debates.

Agreed this topic isn't anything new but you can say that about most of the topics on this board.

Fingon isn't out to bash any players, he's just telling it how it is.

Now I haven't always seen eye to eye with Fingon (and most of that was my fault because I would only half read his posts and get it arse about) but Fingon has always been objective and doesn't allow 'fandom' to cloud his judgement.

Are you a Tolkien fan? If so, you'll notice we have more than 1 thing in common.;)

Also, I liked what you said about little Justine getting splattered by the men; it makes me wonder how you're still open to attack from Williams fans. Yes, I am a big fan of Tolkien, have read all his books and everything written about him that I could get. If you have read the Silmarillion you know that Fingon was one of the Kings of the Noldor :)

It's exactly as you said, there wasn't anything criticizing, bashing or attacking Serena by any means, the reason why I said Serena and not other name is because Serena is IMO the most powerful player in the WTA tour and I just wanted to point out the huge difference in power between the men and the women. Although I had seen women live before, I hadn't seen men and although I knew about the power thing I kind of surprised me a little.

Althea, believe it or not I didn't even think of getting on Serena, as I said I used her as an example because she is the most powerful player in the women's side and if there is one WTA player that could compete against the men that is Serena, however I don't think she would have a chance, that's not bashing Serena or putting her down, it's just a reality, the guys are stronger, taller, bigger than the girls.

You are right on one thing though, I should have known that with immature, hypersensitive fans, the sole name of Serena would incite them to fight, you, moon and others are different, and for example freethinker was very mature in this thread, but many Williams fans are just impossible to deal with, you can't even mention their name without them jumping on your throat, I even get some ridiculous accusations as I am trying to get someone from outside the WTA to beat Serena, who am I? God?, it's so stupid that I really can't answer that and I would expect a smarter response from a 5 years old child.

I guess some times the hatred and insecurity that some people have just completely clouds their minds, I should have know by now.

lol@clocker. Pretty funny.

When I first read the initial post I thought the subject was a bit played out, but I didn't see anything wrong with it too much until Fingon started insulting people for no reason. Then the dynamics of this thread changed IMO, and true colors were revealed.

Calling posters 3/4 year olds, stupid, oversensitive, and using foul language only makes you look immature yourself Fingon.
While I don't believe Serena will beat a man on the ATP, I find it disturbing that you would insult other's for feeling your thread is baseless. Everyone has a right to their opinion, and just because it doesn't coincide with yours doesn't mean they lack knowledge.

Futhermore, this is a rather old topic that picked up some heat before. But have you actually seen any female player challenge active players on the tour? Nope. Men are stronger than women, and we all know that. What I'm getting tired of is the constant comparison between men's tennis and women's tennis. Every woman should play on the WTA, and every man on the ATP.

Actually I thought that the thread was done for fun and probably related to the fact that Serena was spied at the LA Masters series tourney - Agassi vs Keurten (There is a whole thread about her hair as seen at this tourney!!). Even Venus said that that maybe Serena was looking at/for something special and that maybe she should have been here too (not verbatim).
Surely tennis fans are all agreed that any such idea can only be a fun one.

Serena would be the version of Keiko Tameishi, plain and simple. She would get an occasional win here and there, but nothing more. Honestly, I would be surprised if Serena could qualify for a futures event. People on the board can call me a sexist if they want, but it's just my opinion. Serena's type of power has never been seen before on the WTA, while it's pretty standard on the men's side. They won't be intimidated by her serve or her groundies, plain and simple. I could see her beating somebody around #400 at her ABSOLUTE BEST, on those days when nothing can go wrong for her.

LMAO@ Fingon for talking about people being supersensitive. I gotta laugh at this, especially when I think of some of our old conversations in chat.

Alot of us in here can be supersensitive, and you and I both know that you are not any different. leaving and laughing..:):)

Dawn, I might have been hypersensitive, we all have defects, even me :p

But at least I try to improve, and I realize that it's wrong, unlike so many other people.

Harloo, you might be right, but it's truly frustratring that you can't say anything about Serena without people jumping on your throat.

Well I like to think that people in here like to improve too. And you ARE hypersensitive at times, as well I as can be too. "sticking tongue out" :)

I remember those many Hingis/Venus debates we would get into.

Dawn, I am hypersensitive some times, I recognize that and "try" to improve.

You are hypersensitive some times, you recognize it and try to improve.

I don't think many people know they have problems

Uh-uh, what's really funny about this thread is the number of posters, who can't string 1 fucking sentence together that DOESN'T have 6 or 10 typos in it, questioning the intelligence of people who don't believe this thread was created with pure intentions. Now, that's some funny shit.

I guess some times the hatred and insecurity that some people have just completely clouds their minds, I should have know by now.

Insecure? Hatred? What about sheer hyperbolic drivel? To think that anyone, wait let me be more specific and say moi, hates anyone or insecure about anything unrelated to my person ie my personal baggage is just the height of presumption.

Imo the moment you start casting asperions on posters instead of what they write is when you descend into the backward juvenile and immature diatribes you rally so hard against.

I have two words: DRAMA QUEEN.

Hmm I have an Idea for a thread, Maybe Pete Sampras should dress in drag and sneak on the WTA tour so he can finally when the French Open. Now that would be headline making!

PS
thanks for the kind words althea

People who judge ones intelligence on the number of typos they make, are akin with the people who judge intelligence based purely on the grades that one gets in school.

Both are ignorant.

LMAO Cybelle! Sampras couldn't even win the FO Womens singles! Gala Leon Garcia would probably take Pete to 3 sets before Serena calmly dispatched him 6-2 6-3;)

But Bradshaw the women would know it was pete and out of sympathy and the sheer hilarity of seeing him running around in a Nike tennis skirt with unshaven legs would give him easy games all the way to the final where he'll be creamed six o six o by Steffi making her great Comeback.

Poor Petey he'll never catch a break.

*has nothing better to do * (at least I, unlike 90% of you, can admit it :o )

When I make catty remarks about people being idiotic, or stupid, I base the opinion on a number of things...

1 - Their ability to think for themselves and come up with some original thought that wasn't fed to them.

2 - Their ability to have independent thought, that isn't influenced by those who may see fault in their view. That is not to say they can't change their mind, it is merely to say that their flow of thought is not being controlled by another.

3 - Their ability to discuss different topics, and not always regurgitate the same material.

4 - Their ability to reason their way through different topics and situations without being ignorant.

I accept that some people will be prone to arguing when they are attacked by stupidity - some people just have a hot temper. However if they exhibit some of the above, I wouldn't insult someone's intelligence, simply for flaming. That rather shows a lack of patience. (which I have).

Those are just a few things that I base it on, though there are several other smaller factors.

So those who have nothing stronger than a "typo" to critisize someone for, are indeed very weak. It also shows a total lack of reasoning, which is one of the qualities that I hold in great esteem. Thus, when one who lacks such a flattering quality makes a remark I will more than likely just pass it off as stupidity.

:o

Anymore questions? :o

lol cybelle - I think that in my case people just dont' appreciate how I throw around the word stupid with ease, so they will go to any length to attempt to make me look stupid :o

However, bringing up my typos, or how I spelled a word wrong, doesn't really effect me that much - it just shows me that they are done having anything worthwhile to say ;)

I make typos because I type to fast, to tell you the truth.

I type ahead of my brain I guess ;)

Well, Cybell, from the flag that's waving beside my user name, Spainish is not my first language. That's why I don't try typing it when communicating with other posters on this board. One would think that since English is the dominant language spoken on this board, that he would learn to put sentences together well enough so that people won't have to guess what the heck he's referring to everytime he posts. Especially if he's gonna be insulting someone else's intelligence. What's your point exactly? I don't read every thread on this board. It's not like he starts every thread he posts with the phrase "Ok, English is not my native language, so if I insult someone's intelligence in here, but you can't really understand what I mean, don't throw it up in my face because you've been fairly warned". Shit, you sound like Martina Hingis throwing insults left and right, then suggesting that you have no idea what you've just said because English is not your native language. This stuff is funny as hell.

hail venus, this is a message board, it's not a doctoral thesis is it?

I actually write e-mails and memos every day at the office and I do try to write things properly, so far, nobody has complained.

I could make a very long list of posters making typos, even highly educated ones whose English is their first language.

I find it quite pathetic when people try to attack the typos instead of the content.

You were right on the point of me getting off other people and I said that and explained that some times I get frustrated because it's impossible to have a normal dialog here.

but you were also the first one to jump on my throat because I dared to mention Serena's sacred name. I did not say anything bad about Serena, nothing at all, you chose instead to attack a "typo".

For anyone with a middle-level intelligence, it's obvious that if I typed "if Serena if thinking", that it was a typo, something very common and very natural, I am not used to secretarial work, I don't type too much normally and I do it quite slowly, and again, this is a message board, not Harvard University, the purpose is to transmit an idea, if people understand it, that's enough.

There are many posters here who don't speak proper English, in your mind, aren't they allowed to have an opinion on anything because they don't express it in proper English?

Are you more concerned by the style, the form than the content?

You can't figure out what I mean every time I post, that suggests me two things.

1) why do you bother?

2) if you really couldn't understand what I said, well, I think your case is serious and it's beyond my competence.

When I saw Jelena being toyed with by a guy who was a doubles player and who doesn't even have a ranking I came to the conclusion that Jelena would not get a ranking in the top 1000 on the ATP Tour.

I said this when I was part of the Dokic camp and no one attacked me and accused me of player bashing.

Therefore, going by that assessment, I don't think Serena would make top 500 on ATP.

Am I player bashing?

No

Just telling it how it is.

Some of you really have to examine within yourselves in regards to how much your fandom is affecting your judgement.

What this comes down to is sexuality. When Serena said in 99 that she wanted to play on the ATP tour (joke or not) I thought she might be a lesbian. I mean think about it what heterosexual woman would want to compete with men and beat them at their own game. It makes them extremely unattractive to other men.

Remember the battle of sexes. BJK was a lesbian and she wanted to be a man, so she wanted to beat the men. Whereas Margaret Court was a straight woman, and she didn't want to beat Bobby Riggs. I tell you what, even if Margaret could beat Bobby she wouldn't, it'll be embarassing for her as a straight woman to beat a man in sport.

Personally, I don't think any of the women on the WTA wants to play on the ATP let alone beat them at their own game. Except a few, maybe Amelie.
