Just watched her semi win over raymond (6-3 6-0), and the serve was looking mighty good today compared to any match she played at the french/ wimby tournaments, several aces and a couple of 118mph serves, even 2nd serve aces:eek: , i guess lil sis has been giving her some tips after that crushing defeat at wimby;)

That's great... whenever Richard is around, Venus plays much better... glad to here her serve is better again... :)

Looks like that lost to Serena woke her up! ;)

of course it's easier to serve against opponents whom you don't respect a lot. For sure this would change if Serena is her opponent. Serena's presence alone could pressure Venus' service game.:)

from what I saw yesterday, Venus looks very fit and motivated!
I think Serena really got her out of bed and on the practisecourts;)

I also watched the match yesterday. Not only Venus' serve is very well at the moment but in fact everything is.She moved very well and played very aggressive. And she was very concentrated and focused on her opponent not giving any impression of disinterest!

Go Venus! I hope that she can keep serving well for the entire Summer.

for some reason her serve wasn't on at wimbledon, but at wimbledon is where is always shines, you see her serve didn't matter really at wimbledon, she got all they way to the final w/ it being lackluster. but against serena it showed that it really needed to be on and there. but now the serve has come. and really it is no surprise to me that it is wokring great for her. she has done well in the summer since 2000. the only tournie she didn't win since 2000 was the Bank of the West Classic in 2001. So really she is back. And i hope she stays!

Venus serve was working very well at the French & Wimbledon, please check your stats. At both finals Venus serve fell apart. I remember last year, Serena said that Venus was not hitting the ball as hard & she was still winning. What happened to Venus is what happened to Hingis. She got used to hitting soft balls and still beat everyone. Serena on the other hand, was hitting her ball hard all through the tournament. She ate up Venus soft balls. Venus has to know now that even though she can beat most players with those soft returns, not Serena. She is better off hitting that ball hard all through the tournament so that she can meet Serena power, & not be returning on her back foot like she was at Wim

Rosiee i watched all of venus's wimbledon matches and most of her french matches and imo it didn't look as good at any of thoese matches as it did against raymond this week. She didn't consistantly serve aces or over 110mphs, things she did against the one match i saw her play against raymond..

SAY WHAT? Venus's serve was working quite well, you don't get to the finals of two slams, without it working. Check stats, please:)

We can't forget that Serena has the most beautiful and placed serve in the entire WTA. 1st and 2nd. and of course with Venus who like the rest of the tour is prone to throw in a few doubles, that even though she was serving well, it didn't matter. Right now Serena, has one hell of a service game, that is hard to break on a regular basis. I don't think that Venus played bad at all, it's just that Serena came out steamrolling.

Villa, please check your stats. Venus was serving 118-119 MPH all through Wim. When she got to Serena, her serve was 101 MPH. At the French too. What happened? When she won the US OPEN last year, She served Serena off the court. One time she hit the racket out of Serena hand, & even though she stayed back, her returns were powerfull. Down the line & crosscourt. Serena could not handle it. The Venus at the last year US OPEN, & the one at the last 2 finals were not te same. Also look at the tapes of last year summer tourneys where she was absolutely brilliant.

Rosie i know venus serve was brilliant last summer and what iam saying is that it hasn't been at that level in recent months but from what i saw of her this tournie it's getting back to last us open level..

I really think that we can't judge how Venus's serve has improved until she plays Serena again. I think Venus would have won the French and Wimby, if she were playing any other player on the WTA tour besides Serena. In fact I would give Serena the best shot against anyone in the WTA when it came to a Slam final. Although, I do think Venus has the best chance to stop Serena on a regualar basis then any other player at the moment.

The match up I am waiting on is Venus vrs Serena again. Especially as Venus likes to improve in the areas she needs to improve on to beat that player who last beat her. It's on now, and it shall be exciting to see Venus vrs Serena at the US Open.:)
