View Full Version : Jan-Michael Gambill OUTPLAYS Roddick 7-5, 6-3!

Roddick got "on top of Jan-Michael" early on but then when Roddick was serving for the first set Jan-Michael made FOUR UNBELIEVABLE returns to save two set points and to break back. He then broke Roddick again when Roddick was serving at 5-6. Roddick hit a second serve about 15 meters WIDE!!!!

In the second set Gambill played like a machine, mixing in solid shots from the baseline, varied serving, some finesse points at the net, good defense and generally very few errors. He returned unbelievably well breaking Roddick at love and just took total control of the match. Jan-Michael showed a TON of mental strength and composure and Roddick once again looked frazzled and frustrated.

It's sad to see how the announcers and most of the crowd are so solidly on Andy's side since he is being hyped and Jan-Michael is a shyer type of guy. But as the match went on Gambill won over his share of fans and when Roddick blasted a 132mph serve up the middle to draw cheers from the crowd, JMG responded with a blistering return of a big first serve and came to the net to end the point with two smashes.

CONGRATULATION JAN-MICHAEL!!!

I really think the tour and the media have put too much pressure on Roddick to be the next American saviour of men's tennis. He's young and needs to take his time, and not be rushed or else he'll burn-out way before his game matures.

In all fairnes to Roddick, Gambill certaintly got his fair share of hype too...

COngrats to him however, Gambill works hard and its a good win for him.

Though to be honest I'm not surprised he beats Roddick on hard courts anyhow.

Why did you have to blatantly say the score. I was hoping to go home tonight and watch the match on tv... pathetic...

venusfan,

hopefully next time you will learn your lesson and stick to only Williams matches or better yet stay away from the board if you don't want to find out who wins a match. I know your absence from the board for a few hours will be a blessing for many.

What if he becomes the next Capriati? I mean the amount of pressure on each of them was similar, neither have achieved spectacular results when everyone said they would, what do you think?

Capriati at 15, was better than Roddick is now.

She reached slam semis (at 14 even), won the olympics - I wouldn't compare the two at all personally.

Jenn also had an overbearing parent, where Roddick seems to be a lot more independant - which is helped by being quite a bit older than Jenn was.

Roddick and Gambil are gay lovers? Have I been away from mens tennis that long?

Does anyone here ever watch football or baseball where guys hug and smack each other on the ass all the time? No one says they're gay, so why when andy and jan barely hug after a match do people get all worked up and say they're gay. They're good friends not gay.

Was it the gay games? Men's final?

I wonder if their boyfriends were sitting on the stand supporting them?

...Roddick got "on top of Jan-Michael" early... well, it's Andy who is a TOP guy!!

I watched the entire match ! ..i thought Gambill just played a incredible match and i wondered what else could Andy do if he playes without his big serves .Gambill is really a great player .But if he wants to beat Agassi in final he definitely will need his second best ...Hopefully i will be able to see that tomorrow

Ok that would definately boost the ratings of mens tennis, if the number of gay men on this board is anything to go by.

I'd certainly be glued to it :D lol.

Andy is a total bottom, in my opinion. Maybe they decided before the match that the Winner had to bottom, so that is why Andy lost it.

This is true and I think the pressure and recent criticism have gotten to him. Notice how he is acting on the court lately, throwing his racquet and arguing with the umpire? I think he's under too much pressure.

Actually, Roddick needs to improve him game before he can be considered an heir to Agassi and Sampras. Right now he only has a hard, fast serve. His groundstrokes are terrible and his movement is awful. In my opinion he needs a new coach. Someone to teach him how to vary his game. The players are beginning to read him. That's why he's not getting very far in Slams.

It's too bad. I was hoping for an Agassi/Roddick final today. I wanted to watch Agassi "school" Roddick again the way he did in San Jose a few months ago. It's okay that Gambill's in the final though. He's better looking than Roddick.

Why are these Andy topics always in WTA General Messages?! Anyway, Andy has a great game, he is just not on it right now. Who knows why?! But he will be back. He's not going to let a bunch of know-nothing crappers and nay-sayers who have never even met him get to him.

From Article Los Angeles-Mean & Routine

"Roddick hit exactly one double fault in the entire match. It came on break point in that first set. His second serve not only wasn't in the service box, it wasn't even in the court.
