My guess would be Doha and Dubai and then Indian Wells and Miami. But that's just a guess.

Ok Thanks alot. Where is her schedule? I want her to do well. She only needs more mental strength. This kid wasn't that far from reaching her first slam final. She had Dani on the ropes and could of beat Ana.

According to the entry lists, that's correct. :) She might have to play qualifying in Dubai, the field there is very tough.

So no 'easy' tournaments for Maria, she'll concentrate on the bigger ones.

Having played so many tournamens last year, Maria's ranking may seem artificially high to some. However, I look at it a bit differently. If she plays fewer events, I reckon her form should improve and she'll be a better player.

While she has played 28 events over the past calendar year which is among the highest number on the tour, only the best 17 events count. (Actually, what it really is is that the Grand Slams + Miami count and then your Best 12 outside of those. This is why her first round losses at Wimbledon and Miami count towards her ranking.)

My guess is that she will play less events, too, and that she'll reach further into the events than the second round in more of them this year. From here until August, none of the results she will be defending will be in tournaments where she's won more that one match. So, this is a perfect time for her to improve her ranking. It will be tougher when the American hardcourt season begins because her results were very good.

It'd be nice if we knew where she was playing, though.

She must start playing better on clay and grass. There are a lot of points to be made up there. She had her major breakthrough in many people's eyes on clay (FO 2004) and she potentially has a very good game for grass. Hopefully Van Harpen will make a difference here. The problem, I suspect, has been tactics.

T1 means Teir 1 which is the toughest tournaments. T2 is Tier 2 and so on. Draws don't come out this far in advance. The come out a few days before the tournament starts. To get an idea who is play what tournaments, you have to look at the entry lists

What do you think?

Two important tournaments are in the same week.

1) Kremlin Cup in Moscow, Maria's home
2) Sunfeast Open in India, when she won last year one of her two WTA events

Which tournament will Maria choose?

Maria should defend her title at the Sunfeast Open. She seems to really play well in that part of the world. She hasn't had any success at the Kremlin Cup.

Wimbledon

and then?

Los Angeles and Montreal I assume. Then US Open.
I kinda guess she will play Tokyo, Beijing as well.
Moscow, Zurich?

According to the official site Masha is having a week off and then heading to Switzerland to work with Van Harpen prior to the Tier IV in Slovenia. It's a funny schedule this summer with the olympics commencing August 11th. So she will have a week's rest after the Roger's Cup and then perhaps two more tournaments before The US Open in Cinncinati and New Haven.

Then if I was her scheduler I'd go with Tokyo, Beijing, Kremlin Cup, Zurich and Linz.

Those were the ones I guessed. Masha has a real advantage in not playing the olympics (nice as that would be) and those 2 tournaments before the US Open might have some big names missing.

Yes, but you need to be wary of burn-out. Last year she lost her last 4matches of the season, so she should have a good chance to make up points then.

Well her coach keeps saying she should play best on slow courts. Speaking of him, there's a good interview with Eric on the official website. He says in all his years on the tour, he's never known a crowd like Montreal. He says they did chear for Maria - but only when she made a double fault  Also he thinks it will take 3 weeks to fully recover from the virus.

As for 3 tournaments in a row, well that's how the season can work out. She could do very well at both Cinncinati and New Haven, but she musn't burn herself out before New York.

A faster court would have helped Maria put away balls and end points quicker. Maybe I'm confusing it with a different match, but wasn't that a problem against Dubois?

I don't get why he says that.
