Dinara Safina is currently ranked #169 with 189.75 points.

She won the Sopot tourney and receives 217.75 points for that.

That gives her a total of 407.5 points, which would make her ~#92.

Keep it going Dinara!!! I remember she was terribly upset after her loss at Wimbledon but I'm sure that's all in the past now and we would be seeing a different Dinara now! :)

Dinara overall in 2002 is 37-6

she will be #90 on Monday :)

Dinara was more than upset about not making Wimbledon maindraw, she was in tears for hours after.

cybelle......... one big problem
i guess you aren't blonde ;)

anyway with that rank of 90 it will take her to next in on the US Open list so Dinara will be first in if anyone else withdraws from the US

Is Dinara close to Marat? I guess she would be, but I never hear Marat talking about her or anything in interviews. (I am sorry for always asking such stupid questions)

She is Marat through and through from what i ahve seen she looks like a female version of him! Same face its quite scary but she gets in huffs too

against Anne Keothavong in junior wimbledon last year she did a drop shot return anne drop shotted her back she didb't expect this and lost the point and the raquet was thrown LOL!

After Mary Pierce got back into the top 85 at the last minute, I had a hell of a time figuring out who to take for a "Dark Horse" in Ed Z's Stock Market contest. I couldn't see even one candidate I had confidence in. Looks like my "best guess" may have been fairly well placed.

WE CAN EXPECT A GOOD IMPROVE IN RANKINGS THIS YEAR BY THOSE PLAYERS:

VERA DOUCHEVINA
KAIA KANEPI
EKATERINA SYSSOEVA
ANNA BASTRIKOVA
MARIA KIRILENKO
MARIA SHARAPOVA
TATI GOLOVIN

I'M SURE THEY WILL DO SOME DAMAGE STILL THIS YEAR!

It's impossibe !!!
Now her point is about 300-400
But Rank 20 now is 1100++ pts

If she want to be in top 20 before the end of season
She has to win at least 3 tournaments for that
(3 from 8 tournament til the end of year)

I agree that she is good :)
next year she may be another Hantuchova

Why will she be on the next in list for the US Open? It's like the top 104 or around there get put in automatically. Being around 90 will get her in with no problem. If I'm wrong please tell me.

Myriam Casanova started year at #346

Her sister Daniela started year at #526

But Myriam is certainly a contender

She and Dinara has got about the same number of points so far this year

Vera is up by about 100 points than both of other girls, but she hasn't won a tournament

Another contender is Daniela Hantuchova

what is the criteria for newcomer of the year.

how can daniela qualify if this is not her first full year on the tour?

ys
Jul 30th, 2002, 03:14 AM
What could be good about Dinara - I can see her having that Marat's confidence, feeling inferior to nobody. In an year or so she'll be challenging Top 10 players. All of them.

Richie77
Jul 30th, 2002, 04:29 AM
Does anyone know how many tournaments Dinara has played in this year (calendar year 2002)? And how many she can play in the remainder of the year, because of the Age Eligibility Rules?

I'm not sure of any actual criteria...I think whoever wins Newcomer of the year should be a player who was ranked outside of the Top 100 at the start of the year.

Daniela is more of a candidate for Most Improved player of the year.

BK4ever
Jul 30th, 2002, 04:48 AM
Dinara has only played 5 tournaments since she turned 16 in April, so I think she can play 5 more. don't quote me, ask Eggy.

Mags
Jul 30th, 2002, 06:55 AM
TBE,
In addition to Dinara playing another 5 tournaments under the agre restriction rule, is she now able to play the grand slam tournaments should she automatically qualify?.

Also as she hasn't used any of her 3 WC todate, does that mean she could use them in 3 out of her 5 remaining tournaments?.

so now there are 10 (!) russian players in the top 100:

13 DEMENTIEVA, ELENA
15 MYSKINA, ANASTASIA
22 PANOVA, TATIANA
34 LIKHOVTSEVA, ELENA
47 KOURNIKOVA, ANNA
57 ZVONAREVA, VERA
62 JIDKOVA, ALINA
76 BOVINA, ELENA
90 SAFINA, DINARA
99 KOULIKOVSKAYA, EVGENIA

and when lina and nadja come back... ?!!

No, the player would have to never bee in Top 100. Otherwise, Mary Pierce would be a newcomer.

Daniela is more of a candidate for Most Improved player of the year.

True. That's probably between her and Anastasia.

TheBoiledEgg
Jul 30th, 2002, 02:46 PM
Newcomer of the year ......its gonna be pretty interesting

Vera Zvonareva
Dinara Safina
Myriam Casanova

10 Russians in top 100, should have been 12 if it wasn't for Lina/Nadia getting seriously injured in January.
2003 will see the return of Lina/Nadia but also Sveta in top 100 soon to be followed by Sharapova/Douchevina and co

Dinara since her 16th birthday has played 5 WTA events
as she is 16 she can play 10 WTA events in total
but now she is eliblible to play US Open and AUS Open in addition to her total of events, so she should have 12 by the time comes for 17th b-day.

automatically qualify means either maindraw or qual draw so she is in 100%

BK4ever
Jul 30th, 2002, 03:09 PM
TBE, one her five played was wimby qualies, so doesnt that add one extra tourney she can play

TheBoiledEgg
Jul 30th, 2002, 03:13 PM
let me re-write what i wrote :o (if this makes sense)

4 WTA events plus Wimbledon qualies
so she can play 6 more WTA events not what i wrote earlier

Alinka ........ she hits pretty flat, and pretty hard (nothing like power players)....... just check out www.alinajidkova.com :)

her serve needs alot of work on esp her 2nd serve which is pretty bad
top 50....... maybe with another couple of good results
