Well, here it is!! We've been clogging up the Off topic thread with random muterings about Nole and Janko so now they get a topic all of their own! I'll post some sexy pictures when I get home, I'm in the library right now.

So, chat away about..

Novak Djokovic (Finalist!! :woohoo: )
Janko Tipseravic (:hearts:  Much love for the tattoos, serious specs and red stringed racquet! He's got style, I like it!)
Nenad Zimonjic (Mixed Doubles finalist! It's a great GS for the serbs isn't it? And Ros, I had to look up how to spell his name too!)
Viktor Troicki (Who I fell a little bit in love with during his match against Nadal. Although I'm still glad Rafa won!)
And, aww shucks, Djokovic juniors #1 and #2 get get a mention or 2 as well. Marko & Djorde :bounce:

So, how about Nole's awesomeness in defeating The Fed earlier? :worship: Also, I can't believe there's a Serb in 3 of the 5 finals. That's just FABULOUS! Although I only want 2 of them to win ;)

HEH! I got his name totally wrong didn't I...

I am all kinds of giddy about the forthcoming final - I hope Novak can lift his game and not have that post-miracle lull!

No chance. There's a reason he's ranked 35 places above the Frenchman. He ofcourse has GS final experience (Wonder if he's still planning on calling his Autobiography "7 Set Points" ) Slow and steady wins the race. I'm confident Experience will win out.

 Ken, you can avert your eyes. What is it with women being able to admit how gorgeous a fellow female is bt guys having issues with that?! ;)

A fantastic effort by Novak to make the final, Andy Murray take note!!!

And Janko should be able to make progress upwards, from his AO performances & from what I remember of him at W07.

Yeah - Sleepy, I think, said that with a little bit of focus and training he could be right up there too... in his match with Fed-ex (with the focus on the -ex, I guess ) they mentioned that sometimes his fitness and capability of dealing wth long matches in extreme weather had sometimes tripped him up... but I sooo want to see that cool racquet in action again!

It's all down to you, Ros....:worship:

and yeah, I discovered you don't have to go through Imageshack either, you can load attachments on to WTA World (as I think Cat has done here) , then get the URL for those, and do the 'insert image' routine - am I making sense? I tried it, and it worked!

Great day for Serbia, and I would say great day for tennis. Always had and always will have a respect for Roger, but "that" day had to come. Tsonga scares me...must admit, I've never seen something like that match vs. Nadal.

Janko's only problem...is that he is a kinda...night life, reading...having fun guy, he was never 100% in tennis. Right now he is on Kopaonik snowboarding. I hope this match vs Roger will give him new motivation for training and learning, because he, at least that's what I think, is/was more talented than Nole. Novak showed him what can you achieve with a lot of work and training. The best thing about both these guys is...their mindset. Their mental toughness is their strongest side.

And one picture...

Do you reckon Sleepy that Janko is the more "natural" of the Serb male tennis players & Nole has had to work at it that bit more? Or at least the more natural of the two we are discussing here?

More natural...or say....you could see him coming, and than he just stopped...disappeared. Novak came almost from nowhere. Many Serbs haven't heard for him at the beginning of 2007. Nole is more work less talent figure, but his willingness and hunger is unbelievable. Janko woke up again recently...I guess feeding himself from Novak, JJ, Ana success, which is good. Except for two girls, they are all connected and good friends. As once...Vlade Divac and Monika Seles were the best Serbian PR product...these four are doing even better. I'm extremely pleased with all four of them. Novak's parents are hard to swallow, but players are the best you can get...in terms of manners, spirit, knowledge, humor...they make me really proud being a Serbian. And there is not too many things to be proud in Serbia

OK, so how do we fancy Nole's huge wham bam thank you Slam final going tomorrow? I'm really a little unsure of what to make of Tsonga. Just have to wonder if Nadal's groundstrokes on a hardcourt didn't just pour right into Tsonga's game. I have to think he can't look like superman against Nole. But if he does, boy will he be a force to be reckoned with. I venture Nole in 4.

Michael27
Jan 26th, 2008, 11:13 AM
Oh "that's so hard".

This is going to be a very close final going to 5 sets. Whoever is still standing will win.

I think it is going to be 50-50, but if forced to give a winner, I say Nole because of his experience.

Cat123
Jan 26th, 2008, 11:15 AM
Nole in 3. Maria won the title without dropping a set...

We all know Nadal's a beast on Clay and is getting that way on Grass. He's not a hard court player and never will be. We all think he's amazing because he's Rafa, but I think he made Tsonga look better than he is. Novak made Federer look average. Tsonga won't look like a king tonight/tomorrow. The only thing I'm a bit worried about is Djokovic underestimating him.

Bruno71

Now 5 sets is a really interesting prospect...because I could see both pooping out. Though I can't really say that with certainty for either one, especially Tsonga.

Neato, Nole brings the first slam to Serbia. Not as good as if it were JJ but it's quite awesome anyway.

I was just a little disappointed that Tsonga didn't keep his level up through the 2nd and 3rd but he seemed to fight in the 4th, and Nole was just too much. He's really an incredible player and will give Fed fits for a long time on any surface.

There are a lot of reports that Federer was more ill than he let on. I'm inclined to believe them, despire blatent over exageration by the Swiss press. But still, I think Novak had his number anyway.

Bruno71

It just goes to show that Federer has to play at a very high level to beat a lot of these guys (yes, even Roddick ). Mr. I-Never-Get-Sick-Or-Injured probably was at a bit more of a disadvantage than his typical slam, but big deal. All other players have this happen to them 100x as much it seems.

Seems the boys are falling apart as well as JJ (although could be a Murray-esq cop out?) Janko and Novak both pulled out of DC the day before the tie. Oh I know it's fun - have osteo-arthritis behind both my knee caps and my mate who's a GP advised me to keep in skiing/learn to snowboard while I am still able to stand because knee replacements at the moment are not very good - don't tend to last long enough ... so whilst I have to wear socking great knee braces... as soon as I am able to afford a holiday... I'm off to learn to snowboard!

Apparantly it's easier! I'm not convinced - but when I learnt to ski when I was *cough* MUCH younger - it was on the old very narrow skis... I have to learn carving from scratch ... and that was easier, in some respects but difficult to change my "old-fashioned" mindset...

Still - probably worth trying...

From FOXSPORTS
Djokovic was scheduled to play Davydenko in the first reverse singles Sunday, followed by Youzhny vs. Troicki.

"I can't say I'm promising that I'm going to get to the court tomorrow," Djokovic said. "I'm aware that I'm playing against the fourth player in the world, a great great competitor. If I play him, it's going to be a very tough match. We'll see what happens tonight and tomorrow morning."

Even when Nole will beat Davydenko and I hope he will, there is still a BIG question mark who will play the second singles match for Serbia. They're all Serbian technically, so I could argue that patriotism doesn't come into play. ;) In which case, I'd still be supporting the underdog  Alex needs self belief! I'm sending positive vibes!

On the other hand, Vikto gave Rafa a bit of a headache at AO, this should be a walkover. Please prove me wrong Bogo!

Why don't you just marry Novak Djokovic and have unbeatable tennis babies?

[Laughs] We're still so young. We're both just 20. We have many more years in front of us yet.

Janko was sooo pissed at times! He's broken his racquet couple of times and I think the only reason the umpire didn't penalise him with immediate point for opponent after the second time was the fact Simon had BP.
That Simon guy just runs everything down and Janko is really a male version of JJ, especially when it comes to beating these lesser ranked opponents. Janko is no stranger to picnicy matches!
But I didn't watch that match so closely, I was more interested in following tennis match through betting odds for the first time...

I was referring more to the difference in Janko's level of play against types of players like Simon and, lets say, top 10ers. But, yeah, I see where you're going with that...Janko wasn't really the favorite to win this match.

I thought that's what you might mean...JJ & Janko both seem to "play up" to better players. But there is a lot of depth in both tours, maybe more on the ATP, so I can see why they may still struggle with lower ranked players and/or unknown quantities. Still, Janko losing to Simon doesn't surprise me, while JJ struggling with anyone from Shvedova to Dellacqua is a sign of a serious issue

But she struggled less against Serena . Anyway, knowing JJ, I really can't say anything about her injuries/fitness if that's the real reason for her level of play this year. I tend to believe that if a player keeps playing, he/she is fine but in JJ's case I never know...So I just let it go match by match hoping, dreaming, living a lie...

Serena is still the hunted and JJ the hunter. When JJ is the hunted, she gets a Shvedova or Dellacqua's best shot, which usually entails that player taking any short or weak ball that JJ hits (which are aplenty) and sending them back like banshees. But the overall problem with JJ's play against these players is she just doesn't seem to have the stamina anymore to maintain a tough game for an entire 2 sets. Thus, matches get extended, and she has to rely on a 2nd burst of energy. Then, of course, deep into a tournament, the niggling minor injuries are more likely to bother her, especially when she's down.

I haven't watched Janko enough to know if it's similar with him, but I feel it might be to a smaller degree. He also may not be at the point where he expects to dominate players like Simon either, especially when he's looking up at them in the rankings.
