6-4 6-1, would have been surprised a couple a months a ago but she's been struggeling ever since wimbedon really...o well was looking forward to a possible venus/monica semi, never mind..

yep, and now my Queen Venus doesn't get any quality points, which sucks, but i hope it is a Venus/Lindsay final, that way they can pick there rivalry off where it ended, and lindsay can see what her improvements have really done!

It's 6-4, 6-2. But anyways it's obvious that Monica has been off this week, so I'm glad that she didn't meet Venus or Davenport. She will improve for the rest of the summer.

she has no chance of getting a top 4 seed at open know has she??

:( :( I can't say for sure, but, I do think Monica would rather have lost to Davenport or Venus, because they are considered the "top players". However, a lost to Lisa Raymond, on hard courts, is not the end of the world!!!:) :) :) :)

Okay, Monica, let's go on to the next tourney!!! And win, win, win!!!:bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Well, she leads Clijsters by nearly 1000 points, so I think she should get the number 4 seed. I am not in shock. Monica is in terrible shape right now, and I was disgusted by the way she was moving at Wimbledon. As a fan, it is painful to see her still playing when she is in so much of a slump. I was excited in Australia because she was in such great shape, and then now she is in some of the worst physical shape of her life. I know it is only one match, but I am not optimistic at all. I mean she lobs balls back when everyone else in the top ten would hit winners off of. Monica please loose weight and get into good shape!

I don't think I've ever seen Monica lob balls back, but for when she intends to hit a lob, which, for her, is tremendously rare.

mboyle did you forget about Lindsay? I think they are giving the 3rd/4th seed to her. That is fine. Monica can still do well as the open if she is the 5th seed. She was 4th at wimbledon and that didn't help much. Go Monica! I hope you play better in San Diego.

For some reason, I thought even an out-of-shape Monica would beat Lisa Raymond! Boy, was I wrong!

Jul 27th, 2002, 01:20 AM
Oh that is right I forgot! Silly me. I hope they will just let Lindsay use her own ranking, but in that case, Monica will not get the number 4 unless Capriati goes into an even bigger slump of her own (which would be DEVASTATING for the tour as she has not been as good as the first half of last year since Wimbledon 2001)

Monica :rolleyes::eek:

Monica hold her side, I hope she didn't pull something.

Jul 27th, 2002, 01:46 AM
Ohhhh! Monica looks in pain. I hate that.

Jul 27th, 2002, 02:17 AM
Monica wasn't moving well at all today. And she wasn't serving well either. And she was hitting tons of unforced errors.

And Lisa was serving well (regularly 100s), and anticipating Monica's shots really well. And going for her shots as well.

It seemed like Lisa won a lot of games at love or 40-15 (or 15-40).

So Lisa was on fire and Monica was playing badly? Congrats Lisa, and better luck next time Monica...

Very dissapointing...im distraught! :(
Oh well..better luck in Acura classic, unfortunately she Kournikova or Stevenson 2nd round and Capriati in SF, i hate when my faves play eachother! :(

Just accept that Monica lost people, don't always look for excuses. Monica is a human being, and just like us, she can have an off-day too sometimes. And from what I heard, Lisa played really well. Congrats to her!

And about Monica's shape: I thought she moved pretty well at Wimbledon and what you say about Monica having her worst form right now is absolutely untrue. Stop dissing her! She has been trough so much in her life and came back many many times. The only thing we can do is support and love her. Nobody on this world has the right to diss Monica.

I love you, Mon!

Fucking Hell Monica.

Better luck next time.

Here, here, TomLovesMonica! (you've been talking to earthcrystal, by the sounds of it...;) ...gotta love your/her sanity!)

People, this happens, right? Monica will soldier on, like the professional she is. Let's cheer her on to the Acura and beyond...Heck, even if she decided to retire tomorrow (which she won't...don't panic!), I'd say 'you go, girl!'

Go Monica!:D

Poor Monica

When has her shape been worse than this? I don't remember.

Jul 27th, 2002, 02:50 PM
Clocker, much as I detest getting dragged into the 'shape' debate, Monica's in far better shape than she was in, say, 1997 or 1998. Her losses to Kournikova at the (then)Lipton and to Spirlea at the Family Circle Cup in '98 occurred when she was at her least fit, as far as I can remember (and I've followed her since '89). I have tapes of her then and saw her live in France and at Wimbledon this year - absolutely no camparison.

This truly sounds like it was simply a case of being outplayed.

She's over it by now, I'm sure...;)
