Right... after a fair bit of debate (see below!)... it seems to have been decided to stick with the status quo of the current Stickies we have, and rather than introduce a new one - I'll change the title of this to be hints/tips and How-To's

I'll try and find some useful hints that have been sent a while back to help people do useful things like put images in, post videos of matches etc...

Those technically able - feel free to add any useful things you can think of!

And any newcomers - just ignore the 3 pages of nattering - but hey - go check out the Stickies!!

Some useful links to threads:
Jelena Jankovic Cheering Thread (http://www.wtaworld.com/showthread.php?t=280406)
Jelena News & Articles Thread (http://www.wtaworld.com/showthread.php?t=280794)
Jelena Jankovic Photos Thread (http://www.wtaworld.com/showthread.php?t=148599)
Jelena Jankovic Videos Thread (http://www.wtaworld.com/showthread.php?t=265611)
Jelena's Schedule, Results & Ranking Points
(http://www.wtaworld.com/showthread.php?t=274064)

And some of the more frivolous ones!
The JJ Forum Pick Thread (forecast the match/pick a winner type competition!) (http://www.wtaworld.com/showthread.php?t=322949)
The JJ Forum Random Muttering Thread (completely off-topic banter) (http://www.wtaworld.com/showthread.php?t=326943)

Enjoy!!! :wavey:

Since I allowed myself to get drawn into this last night, I'll just make a quick comment here. The above proposal seems perfectly sensible :)

The bottom line in all of this is our dear, beloved JJ. As long as we can continue to discuss, post & have "fun " I have no preference where threads are & what's stickied or not, I will go along with whatever the majority decide. :)

Since I missed last night's action, first thing I'll do is to share my view with you guys (and then I'll read what you've already discussed last night).

I was quite happy with the way things were, I've kinda got used to it. And I'm not trying to say that this is a valid argument but it made sense to me to have the MOST important threads stickied. By the most important threads I mean - News&Articles, Schedule, Videos, Photos and Cheering and I would not like that any of them becomes unstickied.

As you see that is a lot of important threads already . Not trying to say that Questionnaire Thread isn't important but it really has nothing to do with JJ (other important threads do!) so my vote would be for that thread not to be stickied. It would be nice if we can have quick access to that thread but even if that is not possible I don't think it should be stickied. I think it's the fact that whenever I wanted to go to that thread I would have found it in the first page of our forum. So the thread is there, very visible (even not stickied) on our forum, you just have to explore our mad house a bit more.

In the end I think we're doing a pretty good job of reminding new people that there is Questionnaire Thread and that they can fill it out if they want to. I know I didn't want to fill it for some time before finally deciding to do it...

OK - so... we stick (HA!) to the current important ones..
Unsticky Questionnaire but get someone to change its name (I think that will HAVE to be a mod as the original creator is not around)
Try and set up the Welcome one as an unsticky but use *** to get it to the top of the pile?

That sounds workable to me...

Now we have 6 sticky threads, that is too much, but still I dont know which threads should be unsticked ? Maybe news and schedule ?

How can you suggest those threads to be unstickied? I know Schedule thread is not that popular but that is the place to discuss JJ's schedule, rankings, points... It's pretty important .

The news thread goes without saying! That is the single most important thread on our forum IMO...

RFS
Jan 21st, 2008, 10:36 AM
But I think that was Ivan's point Danilo... Ivan requested that N&A get stickied a while back and I think he feels that Schedule should stay too...

And I have to say - until yesterday - I never really took it in - but I suppose we do have a lot of stickies don't we!!!

OK - SO:
Debate 1: Stickies
Cheering
Schedule/Ranking
Videos
N&A
Photos...

Get Dex to unsticky the Questionnaire and change its title...

Is that a good start? 5 Stickies OK?

Disagree. Schedule thread is not important at all because we anyway discuss Jelena's schedule in Cheering thread ( and in all other threads :tape: ) as for News thread ... Jelena's forum is the onlyforum who sticked that thread, and that thread will anyway most probably alway be on the top. My pick for sticking is :

1. Cheering Thread
2. Photos Thread
3. Videos Thread
4. Qustionaire

I totally disagree with Questionnaire thread being stickied...it has nothing to do with JJ. And I don't know if you noticed but some of our members (older & newer ) occasionally have questions about ranking points and how the rankings work in general. Most of the time they pose those questions in Schedule & Rankings thread as they should so I still think that it's important thread...

Edit. And about N&A Thread, who cares what it's like in other forums. I think we proved by now that this is the most organized forum on WTAW (I think Wayn said that or was it Sleepy?). And the most informative thread is N&A and what we like the most is to commentate on the latest happenings in JJ's life and career anyway...We do that in N&A thread so...

Cheers

Yeah. But lately, since questionaire thread is not active/sticky, people are coming to Jelena's forum and opening threads to say hi ... I mean, If every new JJ fan would open a separate thread for his introducion this subforum will be a mess.

As for Schedule thread, I already said that people talk about Jelena's schedule in Cheering thread and even in Ros' pick thread

News thread should stay, though.

дalex
Jan 21st, 2008, 10:57 AM
Yes Danilo, but I thought all this discussion is just matter of organization? So if we want to be (stay ) organized maybe Schedule should stay stickied .

Anyway, don't you agree with the idea that we have the same threads stickied as before and that Questionnaire one gets the new name that would allow it to always be the first among unstickied threads? I think it's quite sensible solution...

OK, here is my four penny worth.

I was very happy with the site we had before.

Having said that, I do think a "Welcome to Jelena Jankovic/Intros/hints/posting/stickies" is a very attractive addition in the stickies.

I think that this could be achieved by just changing the name of "Jecas Fan Questionnaire". I'm not sure I would be happy with to many other changes. I love this site because we are obsessed with Jelena and with her tennis. We also all have a crazy sense of humour, which Jelena brings out with all her crazyness. We are also able to include her friends and other tennis players in the madness.

We must not change "The Madhouse Effect" of this site.

Thank you, just my thoughts.

RFS
Jan 21st, 2008, 11:55 AM
I agree to changing the name - but there's already quite a lot of banter in the Questionnaire one (including bizarrely a lot of discussion about bridge )...

But ok - good - another option for us...

Michael27
Jan 21st, 2008, 12:14 PM
I'm sorry this might be my fault as I put playing bridge as my hobbie which it is. I do not wish to talk about bridge on this site. There are plenty of sites on the internet dealing with all aspects of bridge at all levels all around the world. This site is not one of them. We are here for Jelena.

RFS

It's no problem Michael- my point is... a Welcome Hints thread should really only contain just that... the Intros (Questionnaire) thread is fine for the quick "Hi I'm new" and gives useful info about the rest of us

I think the debate is... Do we Sticky a Welcome/Links/Hints thread (including pointing people to the Intros thread and encouraging them to explore the rest of unsticky world...

Intros got stickied last night and I'm suggesting we drop it, Sticky a new Welcome one... the others stay as they are...

Edit: BTW - Dex just confirmed for me that there's no way of keeping a thread at the top of the pile - it's most recent post first...

So... Are there HUGE objections for Stickying a Welcome/Hints thread - I've asked him to UNSTICKY the questionnaire thread and also change its name...

This will give us 6 Stickies in total (yes a lot!)
Welcome
Cheering
N&A
Photos
Vids
Rankings

All of which I actually think are pretty valid important threads... looking at them listed like that!

Michael27
Jan 21st, 2008, 12:32 PM
Ros, I would be very happy with your suggestion of the 6 stickies.

I agree with you regarding the Welcome thread.

~Kiera~
Jan 21st, 2008, 12:57 PM
Personally, I think it's a nice idea but six stickies does seem a tad over the top. I thought five was too much to start with.

There's a risk of clogging up the top of the forum with too many things. We already have to scroll down a whole page just to see the other threads.

Ian Aberdon
Jan 21st, 2008, 01:03 PM
Yes, only thing I would say is beware too many sticky threads as Kiera says, or we'll become bogged down, as it were.

Anyway whatever you guys want to have is good (if you want a name for the section, making suggestions, then voting in a poll might even be an option to solve it). I'll get Maciek to look around here, if not I'll remind him :p

HINTS: Uploading Files

Also - can anyone recommend a good program freebie to split up MP4 files... I'm guessing that over an hour of JJ and Nole is going to blitz Mega Upload's freebie limit?

I think I'm covered for conversion from VOB (I hope) to MP4... if the burned version is anything else, then I am royally screwed!

Hints from Bruno
Yeah, and I'll post this here rather than PM because it's good to know for anyone upping video files to rapidshare. What you do is you compress the file (whether it be .mp4, .mpg, .iso, or even a group of files) using WinRAR, which is shareware...you can use it even if you don't buy it. Download WinRAR and install it. Right-click the file(s) you want to archive and split and click Add to Archive. When the program comes up, at the bottom left, choose Zip100: 98078 kb and then say OK. It'll take some time (a lot of time if you choose "Best" for compression method), and then at the end you'll have a group of files that won't exceed Rapidshare's limit. People who download it will have to have WinRAR as well...it's sort of a must-have proggie for rabid downloaders these days.

Oh, I should add one more thing. I don't know what megaupload's limit is, but Rapidshare's limit for uploads is 100 mg...Sendspace's is 300 mg. So that could be easier too.

It can't have escaped people's notice that WTA World has moments of dickey-fit-ness to rival even JJ's irritation at bad calls or anything Alves says to her when ump-ing a match!!!

I got this tip from Alex (via Bruno, I think)... if WTAW craps out on you with Gateway timeouts/Database errors - try putting 2 after the www (i.e. www2.wtaworld.com)

It doesn't work ALL the time, but is better than nothing...

If you have a problem ( database error ) or something similar, just go to google, type : wtaworld ( and for example ) more tournaments, and you will be able to to open that page. Then you'll be able to move throught the website by using a shortcut in the down right angle.

I was doing that for 2 weeks  Now WW works perfectly for me, though.

Yes, it's only a workaround to use the subdomain www2.wtaworld.com but you will not get as much database errors than before. So I agree, not the PERFECT solution but it seems to work more stable.

There's a Bug/Error sub forum, and there's a name change thred. Write in this thread the new name you wish for, and mods will change it for you if this name is available :)

Can I post a spreadsheet without losing formatting?

Yes - I do it in the most simplistic way possible in the Pick Thread (http://www.tennisforum.com/showthread.php?t=342690)

Copy the cells you want to display
Paste into something like Paint and save as a JPEG file
Upload the JPEG into something like Imageshack or TinyPic (or any image hosting site)
Normally if you view the image at its full size, there is a menu option of Copy Image Location or some of these sites give you the * tags
Click on the Insert Image icon [IMG]http://img159.imageshack.us/img159/2921/insertimagelm0.gif
