View Full Version : Henin will return in New Haven

Jul 25th, 2002, 11:52 AM
Her coach Carlos Rodriguez told to several newspapers that Justine won't play the WTA-tournament in San Diego. She will return in competition in New Haven.

Henin has a lil crack in a finger on her left hand and decided to take a week off :)

Good luck in New Haven and the US Open Justine :)

Get well Justine :)

Looks strange if she already decided to skip Montreal too, it's still more then 2 weeks away...

I read in La Dernièer Heure, that Carlos told that she will skip only San Diego.

In fact in 5 days, they'll look how it si going and if it's healed, she'll play Montréal. He told that the doctors said that it can take some days to heal or some weeks. So, we'll now what exactly in some days. If it isn't healed, he said that she'll take some rest in Belgium and coming back for New Haven

Well, hopefully it will heal soon. It's a good thing she's one-handed, so her left one won't take a pounding when she hits a backhand.

Henin breaks finger, withdraws from next tournament
July 26, 2002

STANFORD, CALIFORNIA (TICKER) -- Justine Henin of Belgium has withdrawn from next week's Acura Classic after breaking a finger in a match on Tuesday.

The seventh-ranked player in the world, Henin suffered a small fracture of her left ring finger after falling during the second game of the third set of her match against Marissa Irvin at the Bank of the West Classic.

The 2001 Wimbledon finalist continued to play but eventually lost, 6-3, 4-6, 6-1.

"I was really looking forward to playing the Acura Classic for the first time in my career," Henin said. "I'm really sorry I won't be there, but I plan to come next year."

Henin, 20, has won five career titles, including the 2002 German Open. She is scheduled to play at Montreal on August 12 and New Haven one week later in preparation for the U.S. Open, which begins August 26.

"I hope to recover as soon as possible and be able to return to the Sanex WTA Tour in Montreal," Henin said.
