dam its difficult to get the corect draw when theres only audio lol but 2 start off with i thought nicole was in the sharapova section and i was like :( but then i thought she was in the jankovic section and thats a bit better but even better shes in the section that shes in so it just got better and better :). nicole should be able to make the 4th at least molik could be tough if at her best and then vera but should make the 4th and then the tough part of the tournament starts.

Her draw is never going to be kind at the bigger tournaments when she's only ranked #12.

She has to beat the higher ranked players if she wants to get her ranking back up.

Zvonareva seems to be on crutches due to an ankle injury so whether she'll play is definitely not certain. If she withdraws that makes Nicole's draw a bit easier.

In my opinion, Nicole has a very tough draw.

Olaru is a tough up and coming player and then potentially Molik who plays very well in Australia and is capable of a lot. Then maybe Sugiyama due to Vera being injured and Ai has beatn Nicole before, and then Serena. If Nicole were to make the QF she would not have an easy time doing. I mean she should make the 4th round, but she has a difficult draw.

Good luck Nicole :worship:

A look at all of the reaction from the third day of the Australian Open.

Nicole Vaidisova after sending a message to anyone in her half of the draw by dismissing former quarter finalist Alicia Molik 6-2 6-3 in an hour and two minutes: "I am definitely happy with my performance. Alicia is the hometown hero here and had all the support but I think I played really well."

Q. You seemed to be kind of frustrated or anxious to get the game moving or finished today. Is that correct?

NICOLE VAIDISOVA: No, I just think I had more opportunities in the second set to really, you know, step it up, take a bigger lead, and finish the match. But couple good first serves, shots made it more difficult for me.

Q. Do you see this as a big year for you?

NICOLE VAIDISOVA: I haven't thought of a big year. I've just, you know, I said my main priority is going to be healthy.

That was definitely a good last year, and, you know, played good. Obviously I want to do better in the Slams than I did last year.

Q. Do you have goals, or just play it tournament by tournament?

NICOLE VAIDISOVA: Tournament by tournament, match by match probably. I'm not the person who looks at the draw, thinks how far they could go, and just take each opponent as it goes.

http://www.australianopen.com/en_AU/news/interviews/2008-01-16/200801161200466696098.html

From Alicia's interview

Q. How do you feel about that?

ALICIA MOLIK: Oh, not too happy, but Nicole played great. She served out of a tree today, not just first serves but second serves as well. I guess that's the best serve I've played against in the last six to nine months out of all the tournaments I've played.

She got a lot of free points off of herself, a lot of aces, as well. I was playing catchup basically from the first set. I felt like I got myself nicely into the second set. She's a quality opponent, so you give someone a good scoreline to run away with, and she's too good not to. She took advantage that have.

Q. How would you assess your performance today?

NICOLE VAIDISOVA: A little shaky, I guess. A little nervous. Really wanted to do well, play well. But she played good. Definitely very steady player. Made a lot of opportunities for herself.

So just happy I got through.

Q. The age you are now, do you feel much different to how you did two or three years ago, being a little older, a little bit more experienced?

NICOLE VAIDISOVA: Yeah, I guess every match, every Grand Slam, every tough match you get more experience. You know how to handle the situations a little better. I think it helps obviously, especially when you play a top girl who has many more matches and many more tournaments under her belt.

You can try to use that now a little bit also.

Q. You served with a great deal of strength today. Is that something you've been working on in the off‑season?

NICOLE VAIDISOVA: No. Definitely this week I'm happy with the way I served, yeah. I've been working on that. Helped me out a lot of times these last couple matches, so happy with that.

Q. Can you talk about possibly playing Serena, who you played here last year in the semis.

NICOLE VAIDISOVA: Obviously it doesn't get much tougher than that. She's a great champion, a great fighter. She definitely will fight till the end. You know, it's a Grand Slam; everybody wants to do their best.

I'll definitely have to have my A game on.

Q. What do you have to do differently against her?

NICOLE VAIDISOVA: I think move her more around than I did last year. I also had my chances last year, especially in the first set. You know, with those players you definitely have to use the first ones because you're not going to get much more.

Q. Do you feel you're moving better than you did last year?

NICOLE VAIDISOVA: We'll see. I mean, Sunday's definitely going to be a big test. She's a hard hitter. Like I said, I'll have to have everything A level: my movement, my focus, my game, everything has to be together.

Q. You play the game with quite a lot of emotion. Serena is a player that can sometimes get under her opponent's skin. She can be quite intimidating. How do you deal with that?

NICOLE VAIDISOVA: Yeah, I think we're both emotional players, though. I think once Serena gets out there she also, you know, uses emotions to her advantage a little bit.

That's the player I am, the person definitely I am. Very emotional. Sometimes it's my advantage. A lot of times my disadvantage. So will just have to, you know, put it in a more of positive way, I guess.

Q. What do you think you need to be like when you play her? Keep it in check or just be yourself?

NICOLE VAIDISOVA: I think more being myself. I can't be something I'm usually not. So I just have to try to more put the emotions in a positive way.

Q. You say you can't be something you're not. Is mental strength something you've been trying to work on?

NICOLE VAIDISOVA: I mean, I know I'm always gonna be an emotional player. That's nothing that's gonna change ever. I'm not gonna try to change that. It's just the way I am.

But, like I said, more in the positive way. That's something I still have to work on.

Q. Have you ever spoken to a sports psychologist?

NICOLE VAIDISOVA: No.

Q. Would you ever?

NICOLE VAIDISOVA: I don't feel I need to, so no.

Q. What are the parts of your game that you think will worry Serena?

NICOLE VAIDISOVA: I don't know. I can't tell her like that, so (smiling). She has to figure out some things herself.

I think I just have to go and play my thing and not think who's on the other side of the net. Just play my game, focus on that. Obviously, I'm going to expect the ball to be coming at me much faster than it was so far.

So I think being ready and catching the ball early is going to be a big thing for me.

Q. Do you consider her to be an intimidating player?

NICOLE VAIDISOVA: Have you ever seen her play (smiling)?

Q. Yes I have.

NICOLE VAIDISOVA: Yeah, then obviously she is for a lot of players. But, like I said, you have to focus on yourself and just do your thing. I've played her a couple times. Obviously the first time, you know, I admit, I was intimidated.

But, you know, you get to play those players more and more times. I think that goes also at the age. You them more, you have more experience with them, so you do respect them. But the intimidation I think goes to the side.

Q. A lot of players will say, I have to focus on my side of the net, not notice who is on the other side. When it's someone like Serena, got to be pretty difficult.

NICOLE VAIDISOVA: Oh, definitely. I mean, that's what makes her such a great player also, you know, the mental part of it. But I think, I mean, last year when we played here I was able to do that. I was able to play my game, not look on the other side as much.

I think I just have to improve a little bit. I think I have a good chance.

Q. What's changed from then to now? Are you a different player? Do you have a different mindset now?

NICOLE VAIDISOVA: I don't think I'm a different player. I think just a lot of things happened also off the court: illnesses, some injuries.

So it kind of gives you a better perspective on what you're doing, really appreciating what you're doing. But I think as a player, obviously you improve a little bit. But I think, in general, you develop more as a person.

I would so love Nicole to send Williams packing. She can do it, but I am not sure whether she matured enough to beat someone as mentally strong as Serena on a big stage. Our hope is that it's not a semifinal.

3-6 4-6.

Same old story vs. Serena (other top players)...

1) Flashes of brilliance
2) Stupid errors
3) Mental lapses
4) Wasted opportunities

Mentally not there yet as I thought. Basically what Derek wrote. Serena doesn't even hit it that hard (except of serve) or deep but Nicole still had troubles with timing. Sucky performance which Nicole described as "na hovno" after she was broken for the second time in second set.

Another tough loss for Nikki. :( She looked good at times, but once again it`s the same old situation with some missed opportunities and mental lapses.

She hit some huge forehand winners.
But she can never do that when it really counts against the top players.

Nicole played well for most of the match.

But when on the big points, she cracked.
If she actually would have taken her chances she could have at least won a set.

Nicole will be #15 as long as Aga or Maria K don't win the title.

Next batch of big points to defend will be at Indian Wells and Miami..

Her forehand errors - the commentator said that she can't put herself low enough while hitting forehand. but once she did it, her forehand is back. and maybe the tense cause the problem.

Hey I'm soooo sad:sobbing:

Nicole didn't play her A game. Too much errors all over the court. The only thing that worked today was her serve. Nicole needs to get a little bit more consistent! I think she was the dominant girl on the court. She hit the winners and made the errors, which led Serena to win the match.
In my opinion Nicole also needs to "cool" down a bit on the court. She doesn't really celebrate a point with a "C'mon" or something like that, but get's angry on every misshit. I don't think that is really good for her mental power. But Nicole told us in Linz, that's her and she needs that.
I think a little bit more coolness can help in difficult situations.

So i hope Nicole trains well and comes back winning titles!!!

But #15 on next monday:unsure: that really hurts....

I don't see myself as a fan, but like a supporter. I don't like the term "fan", it sounds like "I live for Nicole and I can't breathe when she looses", which is quite pathetic, to my view. I am/was very interested in her game, but she is really disapointing. Don't worry, I'm Not a fan anymore, but I'll still be a supporter.

I said that I'm not a fan anymore, but still a supporter, and by fan, I mean I'm not going to talk about "the off court things" such as "ugly radek"; I love your answers: I use the word "pathetic" and you answer with that one too. Anyway i'm tired to answer you about my choices.
I wish Nicole the best

The loss was expected (at least from me). Nicole played pretty well and really had to earn her points against a Serena who's really rounding into form.

I'm not really disappointed, I just hope Nicole can have a good and healthy season this year.

Problems with timing derived from the low bounce. The PlexiPillow or whatever the fuck it is called is playing quite fast now, and the bounce is murderously low (which makes the way Tipsarevic handled Fed's slices even more impressive BTW). On this type of surface, Nicole's BH nearly always falls apart. And her drive BH ROS was, as usual, dismal. She'd have to develop a block/chip ROS on that side, and a decent defensive slice would help too - but I doubt she's got the hands for that.

Fans jumping ship - unsurprising. A few more months and there won't be a single glory hunter left.

Jan 20th, 2008, 07:48 PM
Vaidisova committed 25 unforced errors, more than doubling Williams' tally, admitting her opponent's on-court dominance unsettled her.

"I had my chances, especially in the second set but didn't chose the right shot, maybe went for too much," the 18-year-old said.

"She pushes you to do that. That was the difference."

Vaidisova believed Williams had a great chance of making it through a tough half of the draw that includes world number one and top seed Justine Henin and fifth seed Maria Sharapova.

"She seems in good shape, playing well, she always has great chances, she's a great player," the lanky Czech said.

I saw nicoles doubles match today and her match against serena. she is my favourite player, i like others but there just something about nicole, my heart races when i watch her play. I think the court is harder now for her game but her main problem was the missed chances. She gets nervous when it gets tight, it was the same in the match against sveta in sydney but its something she will deal with as she gets more experience. The best part is she is young and still has more potential than what shes playing at now. This was my last day at the AO as well as nics, i head back to england in august so hopefully i will get to see nic play live again.
