Meteor Shower
Jan 10th, 2008, 08:25 PM
Yes, I am in the atuda :)
Oh, bagrut in math. Not missing it at all
05,07 are fine, but i hated 06.. i had to re-do it in the winter to improve. I still remember stuff from learning so much..
How are you doing with math? liking it?

Favorite players: Justine Henin & Patty schnyder (it seems to come together),
Elena Dementieva, Alina Jidkova, Agnes Szavay

Its my first AO since joining uni, and I hope I'll somehow get to watch some matches.
Probably by not sleeping much and staying home when I can.
I'm actually willing to watch more mens matches this year if they will seem interesting. usually i just skip them immediately.

Yeah, 06 is ther hardest
I hate it! We started learning it but we stopped because we had to study the 05 material..
I don't like it that much.. It can be also frustraiting if you don't do right few exercises..
I'll have to do moed b for 06 too for sure..
I never saw Jidkova play.. How is she?

hopefully the test won't be too hard..
Alina is cool, I saw her at ES when she was ranked high enough to enter good turnaments  Injuries really hurt her, in my opinion she could be ranked way higher than she is.
Got any faves on the men side? :)

justine schnyder
Jan 10th, 2008, 08:39 PM
Thanks :)
What's with Alina now?
On the ATP... It's pretty sad I have to say.
My fave is Haas (Withdrew from AO )
And I really like Nalbandian (Maybe withdraw..), Dudi and Gasquet too.
how about you?

justine schnyder
Jan 10th, 2008, 08:40 PM
Oh and of course Safin! How could I forget him?

Meteor Shower
Jan 10th, 2008, 08:43 PM
She is playing once in a while in low tier turnaments, but not doing too well consistently..

I like David too, I didn't know he is going to withdraw
Second fave is Roger :) life is good huh?

I miss my highschool day when I had hobbies, today I spend most of my free time here
Whats your favorite tv shows?

Meteor Shower
Jan 10th, 2008, 08:44 PM
Safin is such a headcase. lol
I wonder how good he will be with the opposite mentality of fighting for every point!

justine schnyder
Jan 10th, 2008, 08:48 PM
Right about Safin..
Nalbandian has a back injury and he can';t play.
He withdrew from the Kooyong exho and only in Sunday he'll try to play again..
Fan of Roger--Certainly nice :)
I like Friends, Gilomore girls (Didn't watch for long time though) and Simpsons
Oh and... Don't judge me but.. Days of our lives :o :tape:

Hello :) I'll probably be in this section cheering sometimes so I thought it would be nice to say hi. I'm Jane, I'm Australian (I live in Sydney) and I've been a fan of Shahar since I saw her play Serena live at the AO last year. She very nearly won that match and really impressed me :yeah: Unfortunately this year I saw her lose to Kuznetsova in Sydney but I'm still a fan ;)

Nope I haven't checked the schedule. its out so quickly?? any matches worth staying up for? :D

justine schnyder
Jan 12th, 2008, 10:46 AM
Almost all my faves play on monday.. Shahar, Patty, Justine, Tzipi, Jelena J
And much more!!
Dudi and Harel play as well!
There';s no chance sport 5 will buy it, they sucks :o
(BTW, I have to ask.. Do you have sport 1 and sport 2? )
The first match on Rod laver will be Serena's and then Henin's, on Vodafona JJ is the first to play (Against Paszek) so I think Eurosport will show Serena insted of JJ..
http://www.australianopen.com/en_AU/scores/schedule/index.html

nope I don't have sport1 and sport2, do you have them?

I'll definitely watch Serena and Justine match :) both bring something special to their matches!

I hate it.. When they show tourniments like the masters they put it there.. And only like 5 people have it :o
They won't buy anything.. It's such a shame.. Other countrys buy their player's matches..

I actually don't like Serena, But I like Justine and Jelena (Shocking ha?)
So I'll try to go to bed early tommorow, and then I'll maybe wake up in the midlle of the night :)

I was indifferent about Vika. She was pretty smart and good looking too, but on the other end her talk was so annoying, its like she was trying to make an impression of how a fakatza will sound. I hope she is not studying laws to become a lawyer, because honestly no jury will believe her just because of her fake voice

I don't really have faves, IC this "game" as more of a business. (That's why I dislike the Strange Suissie, as she's Hoffy's enabler and source of access to potential new victims. Meghann to some extent too, as she fulfills that role for Rafael Fuck de Mora). Other than the Cuckoo's Competitive matches (probably starting with Momo in R3) I'm more interested this week in how "Jennifer II" (Sesil) does in the 25K in Arizona.

When you watch a tennis match, you don't have any feel of favorism towards a player? Like you really want her to win? I don't think looking tennis as a business is a good perspective because thats not at all whats this sport is about. You are missing out on alot of fun!

I like Ai too, I was sure she'd win today becuase Vera was injured.. I want her to back to her old shape (Ai)
Wow, Eranni was sooooo annoying! Her "grunts" (Which were actually shouts) and her screaming after each point.. How Lindsay could stand it?! Well, it's a good preperation for a match against Sharapova..
(I want Lindsay to win, but I don't think she has a chance after the way she played today..)
Yeah, tommorow there's not much interesting matches..
Only Evgenya and Safin ( )
The interesting section was yesterday/today..

When you watch a tennis match, you don't have any feel of favorism towards a player? Like you really want her to win? I don't think looking tennis as a business is a good perspective because thats not at all whats this sport is about. You are missing out on alot of fun!

"Layla" tov :wavey:

Moshe Katsav, emberasment to the state of Israel.
I heard this very interesting idea of taking every man who raped a woman and in addition of locking him up cut his penis :tape:
I wouldn't cry if that did happen in reality.

The interesting section was yesterday/today..

It didn't bother too much, I was too busy listening to the amazing sound of Lindsay's raquet striking the ball  You can just hear the perfection in some returns. :D

What a boring day! I slept soooooo much. Every time I woke up there were was some boring man tennis match. how about balancing it up a bit? Evgenia is completely losing it and gonna get bageled after having 2SPs. Meh, I'll cut her some slack this time.

Only interesting match I saw was Safin-Gulbis, watched it since the start of the third set and cheered for Gulbis like hell  I like this guy, he got good game. I don't mind Safin, only his screaming at himself when Gulbis hit some awsome shot really annoyed me. and it was funny hearing the girls in the crowd screaming and drooling at him :o one day I'll find out why girls thinks he looks so good.

Safin is hot. What can I do? Even my friend who don't care about tennis (אבל מבינות לא רע בכלל כי אני חופרת להן המוןןן) like Safin
Her crazyness :hearts:
Gulbis has good game too, but I wanted Safin to win.. He really need to have some wins imo.

Boring matches, but how many upsets!!!!!!
Safina (WTF??), Szavay (Thank god, I just want to see what her
bandwagoners have to say..), Bartoli (Well, it's Bartoli, does it count an an upset?..)
and More..
Wow!

When Genia played I was in the libarary so I followed a bit.. I saw she broke at 5:3 and I know she was 6:5 up
I hope her next tourny will be better..

Tommorow Lindsay-Sharapova..
I hope Lindsay will kick her ass, but I don't think it's gonna happen..
And in 2am (Oour time) Patty, Justine and Dudi will play!
I'll wake up for it.. But I'll have to go back to bed after because I have "ot kosher" tommorow.. (Do you know what it is?)

Who did you mean by her crazyness? Safin? lol.
I don't see what the big deal is about him but whatever :p not my job to judge.

Sabine Lisicki :woohoo: first player I ever saw live, I've always cheered for her
I knew she could upset Safina!
Catalina Castano :woohoo: Didn't see this one coming at all! Amazing win :D
Agnes Szavay  what is wrong with her this year? :o
I'm not a bandwagoner, I liked her since seeing her for the first time in Budapest before her amazing results
I wish I could see all this matches (well, maybe except Agnes one)

I think it's ok you don't understand why we girls like him so much ;)

When do you saw Sabine live??
She's young right?
I actually thought Safina got a very easy 1st round! What do you know about Sabine? How she plays?

About Castano-That one I didn't see coming at all too! Her preperation was losing 2 matches to players outside of the top 200..
:tape:
But I don't liken Safarova too, so I don't really care, but it's very very surprising, anf for Szavay too. When I saw the result in her match in the morning I was.. WTF?
Maybe she's carrying an injury or the players know her better now..
I won't see Lindsay-Sharapova, I'll be in school.. Damn, I wish I could skip tommorow! So many good matches!
But on Monday I'll have a day off-חופשת מתכונת
But I think it's the bottom half that day :(

Its so funny to look back at my posts, its so typical I would write those things

Castano is really a fighter, she fights for every point and use the angle to subtitute the lack of power, I really like that because it shows you don't have to blast the ball to win, just like Anna proved in her carreer :)

Oh, חופשות מתכונת, it was not that long ago but its seems like in a totally different lifetime now. I can't imagine myself anymore sitting in school, even although I'm at uni.

Oh, I hated the sport bagrut! I could have done so much better, but oh well.

:wavey: Yes but only for a few points. She was on Court 19 which is really far from Rod laver Arena  so by the time I got there and waited for the match to start I had to head back to where I'd agreed to meet my friends. Her dress looked very summery and nice ... unlike quite a few we could mention
She's up against the young Aussie Jess Moore today - I hate it when two players I like play each other early (although on the other hand I get to be happy with either result ;) ) but I'll be cheering for Shahar so I guess I really am her fan now

I think it's really cool watching a player when she just starts her carrer and after a while she makes her breakthrough :)
I'm so jealous of those who soaw Henin and Clijsters when they were here for a future in 1995 or 1994..
Of course back then I had no idea what tennis was

Or, Patty lost
I really had a feeling she would lose.. I was so happy when I saw she was leading 6:4 3:0, and after Henin won her match I went back to sleep and I thought she would win the 3rd.. How did she lost to that clown?.. Patty :o :smash:

Justine really got outplayed, I mean some of the shots she hit was spot on - deep and sharp like you need to do against Maria, but she really surprised me and handled them with ease, so you got to say good job to maria. :)

Serena looked so weak in her match, it was really worrying.

It's the worst women final EVER! I hate both players (Ivaovic has became officialy a player I HATE) and the worst part is, that Sharapova used to be the one I hate the most and now I feel that I want her to win

It's great but I don't know what they'll do tommorow, because Shahar's match starts at 6am and in 6:45 they always have the morning show..

By the way, in last two sets, it was really pathetic watching Shahar play, and making those many mistakes near the net.
The only positive aspect of it is the knowledge that she, as a top 20 player, has so much more she can improve. If she will, the sky is the limit for her.
I was very impressed about Azarenka's level.

I've seen Shahar play this pathetic in doubles at least 3 times (every time i watced), and yet she kicked ass in singles. I've learned that doubles just doesn't suit her, but don't think it says anything about the singles. its ok though, I got that shock seeing her play doubles for the first time :p
I still think her backhand and forehand was good at the end :) when she stayed back she was in charge of the 1-5 comeback.. I could see in the third set why she and alona ranked so high in singles.

Net play just isn't her thing yet, but all 4 (maybe except vika) were not good at the net, and actually that what made it fun to watch for me. Shahar was the worst though, I agree.

I don't think shahar got any business going to the net in the singles matches. she is short, don't have long reach, net play just doesn't suit her so I'm not surprised she is so bad at it..
Her level dropped too after the 1st set. It is clear though that she'll be a top 10 player before Shahar.

I disagree here. If Shahare wants to do the next big step, she must learn how to put more variations into her game. It's not enough anymore just to bang arround from tha baseline. Without improving her serves and her net play I don't see her in the top 10.

Not that I'm complaining about her present status.

In Australia in the summer time it is mainly sunny and hot. Although lately they've had a bit of rain. I live in New Zealand - small country to the east of Aus, and our climate is a lot more changeable and unnpredictable. A lot colder here too :(

Yea being from NZ makes things expensive - costing in excess of $2000 each year to go, but its well and truly worth it. This year came to $3,500 because of having to fly back for the final again!

I've been to Auckland city, but not the tennis tournament :( To be honest I don't think very highly of Auckland at all. I think the best of our country is all in the South Island. Fantastic scenery and the climate is a bit more stable.

I talked to a friend how cool it can be, so I looked stuff up and asked in a forum, went to the course (2 days of material + test + 2 days of internship, judging without pay)

I saw in AO the biggest israeli umpire that was the one who taught us the course. and I always see all the other experienced ones in the israeli davis/fed cup matches :D good for them :yeah:

I'm no geographical expert, but wouldn't be the southern island be closer to south pole, making it more extreme weather?

Apart of having a lot of sheep, inventing the Bungee and exporting this movie director who directed the "lord of the ring" movies, anything special to report from NZ?

I don't think that I have to tell you about Israel, if you watch the news or read the papers. Although, when one lives here, it's not as bad as described in the media.

Nope we don't really have extreme weather in the South. Occasionally in winter it snows, but thats about it.
NZ is ofcourse famous for Peter Jackson and the LOTR movies, sheep etc. Rugby is our national game here - Jonah Lomu is famous worldwide, as are the All Blacks.

Yea i've seen a bit on the news about Israel - never good to see conflict happening in any country. As i work in a travel wholesaler, we sell packages to Israel and from what i've seen it looks like a great place and I hope to go there one day.

The problem is going to be the next few weeks for Shahar, she will have to gain some points in Doha in order to not make it ery hard for her to stay in the top 20 at Miami and IW. I don't see Shahar doing more than a Semi-final in Memphis, th lists could change but she is now seeded 3 with Venus and Golovin in front of her, and they are the much better indoors players. Plus you got Lindsay flouting around the draw, and Shahar really don't want to meet her in the early stages...

The Doha draw is not looking too bad. Schiavone first up - which is very winnable. If she wants to break into that top 10 then she's gonna have to put in the hard yards in the indoor events. She's got the game to do it.

Interesting about Shahar, I also share your concerns, but surely she'll get to Daniela with no concerns. It's desperately important to find some form in the early rounds. If she can go into a match against Daniela with some confidence and also possibly win that, it could be the making of her season. Thats a big "IF" but its possible.

Tough review of Shahar and Israeli tennis in general at Haaretz:

The Last Word / It's time to go, Shahar

By Eitan Bekerman

1. Let's go home. Let's go. The Fed Cup team, perhaps Israel's most successful delegation in recent years, ended its journey yesterday toward tennis' elite eight. The next struggle will begin in 2009. The team's hero, Tzipi Obilzer, will be 36, and there's no one waiting in the wings.

We can only salute Obziler and Anna Shmashnova, who for all these years kept the team going, and to wish some local wonder girl - no one knows who it will be for now - who will burst out of nowhere to fill the empty space that will inevitably develop. Advertisement

As it looks now, the only way to fill that void, as is the norm in Israeli sports, is to traipse around the world in search of some young Jew - we'll settle for anyone who fits the Law of Return criteria - to fill the space Obziler will leave behind. Dream on.

2. Shahar Peer is solidifying her status as a loser. Even after her surprise cramps disappeared, again opposite a rival ranked far lower than her, again in front of a home crowd, and even under weather conditions she asked for, Peer managed to lose her match despite a 4-2 advantage in the final set.

Athletes are allowed to lose, even to be a loser, as long as they do their best. And Peer, let's be fair, gave what she had. Players may also be arrogant and get excited about themselves out of normal proportions and say at every opportunity how they're in good shape - but afterward they shouldn't cry when they fail the reality test and the crowd treats them accordingly.

3. Congratulations, too, to the Israel Tennis Federation for filling barely a third of the Ramat Hasharon stadium after making a deal with a ticket subcontractor. Someone really believed there that the masses who came to the last tie against Russia were there to see Peer and not that other athlete Maria what's-her-name.

No one in the federation took the initiative to organize buses of excited children from across the country to have the privilege of experiencing an international tennis match. Only when it occurred to them to allow free entrance before the final game did the stadium begin to have the aura of giving a homefield advantage - too little, too late.

No wonder. It's exactly the same federation that managed to raise the next generation of female tennis players here, among whom the highest ranked competitor is number 743 in the world. It's the same federation that spends most of its time and effort in spats with a president, Assaf Hefetz, who does little more than being present.

OUCH!
What a tough commentary on Israeli tennis. The press needs to skip the bashing of Israeli tennis players. When the mens doubles team lost early in Monte Carlo the press pounced all over them.

To be number one in anything is tough - as so much is expected and perhaps even demanded of you. Players need to be encouraged and supported in the good times as well as the bad. To label her a loser and to bemoan the lack of talent in Israeli tennis is a shame. Yes, she did lose, and yes on paper she should have won just by her ranking alone. However, she didn't win. The intelligent response is to figure out why, and to help support her to do better in the future.

1. Is it the pressure?
Can she as a player handle the pressure and demands that come with being the number one in the country. Can she as a player handle the demands of the Israeli tennis federation? Is she getting the motivation and support to do better and the praise and thank you for past achievements. (I suppose tennis players are like movie stars - you are only as good as your last match/movie.)

2. Is there coaching support? Is she getting the support needed to be a better player? Is her coach helping her to become a stronger more aggressive player or is the coach allowing her to remain docile and passive?

3. Is it the lack of natural talent? No, I don't think that is the case. Young people everywhere are talented and can become excellent in an area that they are interested in and are motivated in. She won the Australian Open junior tennis and has been in 2 Grand Slam OFs. She is talented and she is a good player. So I think that question number one has a lot to do with how she plays. With comments like the one above from the press - no wonder no one wants to come forth and play tennis. Young people need to be encouraged and motivated and cheered on. Not dismissed because of losses. Yes, she is losing more than she did early last year at this time, but she is young and can and should be able to build her ranking back up again.

She may NEVER be in the top ten - and there is NOTHING wrong with that. As long as she plays her best, remains a good sportswoman and enjoys playing she should be encouraged and cheered for her play.

To wrap all this up, I thing she really needs and desires support. She mentioned in an interview late last year how she needs a coach to be with her every week. What she needs is a motivator and a friend. It appears that she finds life on the tour tough. Comments from the press above will not help.

Hopefully she will do much better in the future. If not, my hat goes out to her for the joys and pleasures she gives to me as a tennis fan. I encourage her to do HER BEST and only HER BEST. Whatever the outcome doing ones best is all anyone should expect. Winning is nice, but life is about doing the best you can and no more should be expected.

Cheers to all of you fellow readers - you are her support and she needs us to be with her at all times/good and bad. I look forward to discussing more tennis with you and I especially look forward to discussing the great results that I feel will come from Shahar.

OUCH!
What a tough commentary on Israeli tennis. The press needs to skip the bashing of Israeli tennis players. When the mens doubles team lost early in Monte Carlo the press pounced all over them.

1- Like everything in Israel, it's either black or white, good or bad etc. The press behaves in the same manner.

2-I agree completely.

She had very deffensive tennis, Shahr knows to do that, Shahar wanted and should develop her serve, FH and volley, and I don't see how Martinez and Urpy helped her with this so far.
With Oded (Jaacob o Teig) you could see her tenis developing and you could see Shahr progressing.. Now? Nothing, her tennis gooing backwoardsa instead of forward and she has no confinence in her and in her tennis.

Here are a few of the more notable columns written in "Maariv" in the past two days (most of them were little more than a waste of space and ink):

The Black and White Sport / Tzipi Shmilovich

The sincere tears and the almost morbid attitude of Shahar Peer ("if I won't get over this loss, I might as well say bye-bye right now") after the doubles match yesterday, will soften, hopefully, the all so tempting knife stabbing, a year and a half after some writers and talkbackists alike delved into the question how long it will be before she will top the world rankings. A year, two at maximum? What makes Henin any better than her?

Because that's how it's done in the land of Black and White. The winners are heroes, the losers are zeros. If Sharapova arrives, the stadium is full; if it's Kvitova, mostly empty. So what if very few 21 year olds could have dealt with the pressure that was mounted on Peer in the last two months. An annoying, overbearing, egotistical country, that most of the time couldn't care less about tennis, has sat in the veins of a girl that had no tools of dealing with this steamroller, and got only bad things out of her. Bad tennis, bad behavior, big sorrow.

Surely Peer deserves criticism. She isn't progressing for a long time, changes coaches at a dizzying pace, there's still a bad taste from the way she handled herself in the tie against Russia, and besides, what can you do, she's not winning. But all that is on the surface. This is more worrying than another loss or two, as important as they may. For example, it turns out that even though Peer is rightfully complaining that every loss is taken as a tragedy, she admits to cry after each one.

How can you stretch such a demanding career with that kind of emotional burden at age 21? What's gonna happen in four years time? It is clear she's not at her best physical shape, which is also related to her mental state. She has developed a certain disappointing arrogance, which made her to be disrespectful towards Sharapova, deal with the crowd and the linesmen too much, and refuse to admit she's stuck.

From that respect, the last two Fed Cup ties could save her career. For that to happen, she needs to leave the country for a year or two. Stay away from this stench, and also from mom and dad. Move to Europe or USA, not read any Israeli newspapers and internet, pick a single, right coach that fits her, and start from scratch. To work on her serve, and then work on it some more. Improve the forehand, start coming to the net more often, and mostly, return to enjoying tennis and smiling, so that the next time she plays here, the promise will be fulfilled.

In the end of the day, we're talking about a young woman which is ranked among the best 20 players in the world. There are many more years for her to reach her peak. Tzipi Obziler can assure you that.

Support is Needed / Shlomo Glickstein

IF you analyze the surprising loss of Israel to the Czech Republic, you have to start by acknowledging this is an enormous disappointment. First and foremost because unlike the tie against Russia, we were the favorites this time and had an excellent chance to stay in the top 8 teams in the world. Second, because in spite of Tzipi Obziler getting the team out of a hole, Shahar Peer fell apart again for an unclear reason. It is clear now that this isn't a matter of injury, but much more than that.

Most of all it was obvious that Shahar is not present on the court. She played extremely defensively, and didn't try to take the initiative, dictate points or vary her game to get into the matches. It looked like she's made her opponents' task too easy. In the past two days I hear the waves and talking about Shahar, and assume she will now be facing a large amount of criticism. In spite of everything, she doesn't deserve it. IT mustn't be forgotten that she's a great sportswoman, who has already done a lot in her career and for the team, and she's an asset to Israeli sport.

It's a shame that after each achievement people here lose proportions and jump into pools with joy, and after a loss they completely lose it. They must understand that this is only sport and not a matter of life and death. Even if Shahar's preparation were lacking, we must back her up. It is true that she's practiced on clay and believed she will get along on the Ramat Hasharon hard courts, and that didn't happen, but she is only human and everyone has his down periods.

To finish, I have to take my hat off for Tzipi, who gave one of the most heroic performances ever seen from a female tennis player here, even if it wasn't enough in the end. Tzipi should be pleased and believe that this is her true level. Because she's worth top 50 and I'm optimistic about her chances of getting there.

Analysis by Anna Smashnova

In these matches the pressure is much higher, which is natural. It isn't ordinary like some 1st or 2nd round in a WTA tourney that almost no-one watches, but every match is very meaningful. That's why in the Fed Cup almost all players don't play at their best. Although Shahar's strength is her mental side, no-one is immune to pressure, no matter how tough you are. I believe it was a one time slip.
But she's not doing well in the WTA tour either. Don't you think she's in a crisis?
The crisis talking makes me laugh. There's no such thing in tennis, which is a very unique sport, at which you can be perfect one day, and the next one you can't put a ball over the net. The good thing is every day is a new one. It's ture that Shahar isn't doing as well as before and isn't playing her usual tennis, but I wouldn't call it a crisis, because things can turn quickly.
Could it be that it's the media's fault?
The media only stresses the ones who choose to be stressed by it. The biggest mistake of sportsmen is to read newspapers and let that get to them. I don't exactly know how is Shahar in that aspect, whether she's looking at it or not, but by what she said you could understand she is troubled by what's written about her. I have never opened a newspaper as a player, didn't read a single commentary, article or statistic. It's not interesting and won't give me anything in life. Shahar must deal with the media and say the right things. Her outburst yesterday wasn't good for her image.

At first, I thought working with Martinez would help Sahar. I thought, that except of course her serves, she needed to bring more finess to her game, more slices and drop shots. I was sure Martinez was the right person.
But reality shows I am wrong.
Not only didn't she improve in the above weaknesses, she actually lost most of her positive sides.
It's really a shame, but she's still young and may improve in the future.

I don't think Martinez is her coach as much as she is her travel friend. If you read between the lines in her interviews and blogs she mentions that she likes and needs someone to be with her all the time on the tour. Thus, I think Martinez is someone that she enjoys spending time with and likes to go out for dinner with - a friend.

However, I agree Martinez is NOT a good coach for her. She was NEVER mentally tough herself - how can she project an assertive image coaching? Half the time you looked at her on the court you really had to wonder if she was there. She always seemed so distant. She has taken an excellent player in Shahar and made her docile and almost zombie like. I realize this is a HUGE criticism on Martinez. - Shahar was a fighter with similar traits to the gifted Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario two years ago.
Now this...

I suppose Berlin and Rome are next. Not too many points to defend there. I was hoping she would make up some points in order to be seeded in the top 16 in Paris.

I wanted to comment on this article before, better late than never:

Why don't you take your own advice, Mr. Bekerman, and go home.
Professional sportsmen, unlike journalists which are always perfect, go through rough patches at some points of their careers. Luckily they don't pay attention to the likes of you and play on.
This Fed Cup team, and its sudden 35 year old hero in particular, has played for years and years far from the World Group spotlights, when practically no-one of the Israeli media gave a damn about them, or even knew who was in the squad.
Here's a newsflash: this team will play on next year, and the year after that, and won't cease to exist even after the remarkable Obziler calls its quits. And your favourite target of the moment, the so-called "loser", will lead it for the next decade, even if no other local talent like herself will emerge, and a certain young Jew won't be seen again on court. Even if it will be once again in the duldrums of the European-African Zone 1, when you and the other tennis fans for the weekend would have long forgotten that such a team exists.

Shahar will play on, and will have better days. You, apparently, have given up on Israeli women's tennis, so there's only one loser here, and that's not her. Go home.
At least you got something in your third point. Hey, for a loser, 33% isn't so bad.
