well if players ranked 7 and 8 and their H2H since 2003 are included (that's when Henin became the player we see today and the player Sveta lost her those matches to), the picure will be even more depressing

well if players ranked 7 and 8 and their H2H since 2003 are included (that's when Henin became the player we see today and the player Sveta lost her those matches to), the picure will be even more depressing

Well, face it then too, that Justine is from a later generation and was an up and coming player when Venus and Serena were #1 and 2 in the world. That's why making a timeline-cut is legitimate and makes sense.

Henin is a great player and a class above the field.

She is also blessed with awesome variety which makes her rather fun to watch.

The Belgian No. 1 has laid down the gauntlet - it's up to the others to rise to the challenge. They are trying.

There was no hate i congratulated her on those very impressive statistics but the poster tried to manipulate statistics with the WS which is ridiculous, if he/she was doing a yearly H2H fair enough but he totally discounted WS after 2003 thats like me saying that WS are 13-4 against Henin because 2007 they were not fit!!!Or i could be just as ridiculous as the poster and say that they are 13-3 against Henin cos she cheated at the FO SF 03!!!! If you need to prove a point about your fave being superior at least use appropriate statistics!

they were beating henin when she was up and coming and Sveta and Jelena had to play all their matches against Henin when she is in her prime.

Clijsters 13-1 vs #2-4 players which is impressive too. Looks like it's Belgian thing :lol:
Though Mauresmo is 14-6 (not bad as well) and Myskina is 8-2 vs them :lol again:

But in case with Justine we can say she still owns "the next three best players in the world" even after they have improved.

P.S.
Clijsters holds a 18-4 win-loss record vs #2-6 ranked players while Mauresmo is 20-7 vs them. They (including Justine) are the only players with winning records against each of those five girls (Kuznetsova, Jankovic, Ivanovic, Sharapova).

Off topic but half of the current Top-10 are not GS champions (for comparison: 1998 and 2004 year-end Top-10s included 8 slam winners, 2003 YE Top-10 included only 4 former majors champions).

I hardly think the fancy pre/post 2003 juggling is required for a player of Henin's caliber. Every player has lopsided H2Hs at the start and end of their careers - its a matter of fact. In fact if you go back to 1999 Henin has losses to players who would have a hard time taking a game off her. So what ?? Every player does - doesn't mean they didn't happen.

The only really lopsided H2H against her is Venus Williams, who is hardly a slouch. She is tied with Serena, well how many players can say that - and has a good chance of improving against Venus if they continue to play with any frequency, which might not happen. The fact is that even a record of 50-15 or whatever against the rest of the top 10 is UNBELIEVABLE and doesn't need manipulation to make it sound better.

Your post is the perfect example of your own bias.

Justine is great because she is now at her peak and beating the WS. They only beat her when she was up and coming.

Justine is also great because she has a great record against Jankovic and Kuznetsova. (Yet you fail to mention, that THEY are probably in an up and coming stage too).


Overall, there are a number of conclusions we can come to about the statistics. Firstly... Henin having such a lopsided record against these players may be representative of the fact that this is a weak ERA, lacking the mentally tough, and gritty competitors we have seen in other generations as early as 2003. Henin is a great player, but her 'prestige' elevated by the lack of REAL competition - most of whom have been injured, forced to retire.

Or - the conclusion that most Henin fans have been fawning over - that Henin is very dominant at this point.


It all depend on how you frame it.

I understand Henin wasn't as confident or strong as she is now back in 2003, but to discount those losses is ridiculous. Do we throw out the Hingis/Venus H2H prior to 2000? Do we throw out this year's H2H between Justine and Serena since Serena has now declined so much?

The statistic is great.. but also a sign of what's wrong with the tour at the moment.

Personally, I think her arms are too big, her blog is boring, she jerks her head occasionally on her back hand (it looks funny), she's too small, she's too huge,
she can't win on hard courts, she wins the US Open, she's married, she's not,
she's trailer trash, she's classy, she cheats, she doesn't cheat, Carlos sucks,
Carlos is a geat coach, she's estranged from her family, she's back with her
