After reading that Patty Schnyder was trounced by Dinara Safina, and hearing much about this young prospect, I can't help but wonder how these young ladies play the game of tennis. I know Zvonereva hits it very hard and flat, but what about other young talents?

Ashley Harkleroad
Maria Sharapova
Casanova
Safina
Elke Clijsters (although I don't think she will be a future great)

Can anyone (hmm, TheBoiledEgg would be a great help here) help me out? Do they hit it hard, run fast, have great touch, etc?

All I remember from seeing casanova v schett was that she kept an impeccable length whilst hitting v hard. Kinda the standard style of new players to the tour. I am not v good at the game analysing without seeing it over and over, but she seemed v tactically aware (dropshotting and lobbing at just the right time, even if they didn't go in). Also common in the young was the need to check with her camp after every point for reassurance.

Not a lot of help was i lol. Others will have loads more.

Casanova is very powerful of both sides. She used to have a double handed forehand but she hits it with one hand now, except for the return and some high half-court balls she will use both hands. Her backhand is her best shot (both DTL and cc), technically it's a perfect shot, very similar to Hingis but with more power. Forehand tends to let her down sometimes. Her first serve is decent, not great but her second serve needs a lot of work. She's a big girl (a bit like Mikaelian) so her movement is not her strongest side though she can run well, it's not like she won't go after a short ball.

Clijsters has a big serve, very powerful and good placement. She has powerful shots on both sides but she likes to finish off points at the net. She's not a serve and volleyer but she will come in at every opportunity to hit a volley or a drive-volley. That's why she's an excellent doubles player. She runs well, though she's not as athletic as Kim. I think her biggest problem is the mental side, she's not always 100% focused although lately she's more committed to the game.

I saw Sharapova play once so I can't really say much about her only that she doesn't have as much power but she makes it up with placement and taking the ball early.

I haven't seen Safina nor Harkleroad play yet.

I watched Myriam Casanova at Wimb v Schett too, and she looked very impressive to me. Yes, she seems to have the rihgt shot for every moment... but what really impressed me is that she wasn't afraid at all of going to net to finish points, even when she's not too tall... I didn't watch her match v.Henin, what I thought Myriam was going to win it...
I also watched her sister Daniela there, and, call me crazy, I think she has a game even more complete than Myriam, but she's not mentally strong. She destroyed her first round opponent, in a small court there, and believe me, she was making such fantastic shots, that a lot of people came to that court.

Maria Sharapova - Great groundstrokes! Perfect technique off both sides. Great power, too. Maria has a potentially fine first serve. She can go up and get the ball. When I saw her play recently, Maria blasted an ace up the tee that reminded me of Vee! Venus Williams! Maria really got on top of that serve and must have hit it 110 mph! :D I was shocked to see such a serve from Maria!

Potentially, I think Maria Sharapova could be a combination of Venus Williams and Daniela Hantuchova! :bounce: And I'm not pulling you leg! She needs to add about 15 pounds, and get a quicker first step. But Maria Sharapova is well on her way to becoming a tremendous player! :D

Udachi Maria! :bounce:

I have only seen two: Ashley Harkleroad/Maria Sharapova

Maria: She literally screams after hitting each ball. She takes the ball quite early, hits with alot of power off both sides, moves very well, had a great first serve, and is tactically aware (mental toughness/good shot selection)

Harkleroad: She does not hit very hard, but is working on it. She almost never makes errors and moves opponents around alot.

Widjaja: She hits the ball hard  I have not seen her play but at least from what I hear she hits hard. The new Asian breed (Hsieh/Widjaja) hit hard from both sides now.

Su Wei Hsieh supposedly plays like a young Monica Seles (killer groundies, decent high percentage serve, never volleys, moves well) Anyone have information on her?
