You had your chances JJ, the serve was the deciding factor in the end
At least the injury isn't worse, hopefully there will be on obstacles in Melbourne :)

Well done Vaidi, some finesse shots were just awesome! ! ! :)

I'm glad Jelena was able to compete and hang in there, but now its much more important to rest, so a loss isnt too bad :) Much better serve, great netrushing and measured shots a-class at times. With a bit of rest you'll rock at the AO ! ! ! :D

That was an enjoyable match.

Nicole had great serves and beautiful forehands, I like the drive volleys.

Her last 4 points in the third set is yummy !!!!

But her consistency in crucial moments is losing as lots of unforced errors had been made.

Besides, I must say Jelena's backhand is gorgeous.

ok firstly why did jj play sydney? she couldn't move as quick as normal she pulled up on a lot of runs. nicole was as tight as a drum whenever near winning, her serve helped her fall over the line. anyways nicole took advantage despite the nerves.

im totaly picking sveta to reach the final though, looks like we will have a sveta vs henin final with henin duffing her again.

well done nicole :yeah: much better week for her & her serve was the big factor. really did help her when she needed it so props to her :hatoff:

jelena  dunno why she played sydney when she should of rested that injury (but its no excuse for her losing to nicole), but she did her best.
rest up now jj :)

Didn't get to see it, but it sounds like it was a very good match in which Nicole was the better player. I'm still proud of JJ's performance this week, given her situation coming in. Hopefully there will be a good few day's rest before Melbourne and she'll be ready to go.

Damn... Vaidisova's serve was on fire in the 1st set and also at the end of the 3rd... she's going to be a huge threat in AO. Good job girl :yeah:

Jelena  get some rest and prepare yourself for the AO (P.S: By the way the commentators were saying that she will lose her #3 ranking... is Ana taking over?)

About the courts.... hmm... seems that it's as fast as the normal hardcourts now... but the bounces are quite high though, like on clay. Funnily enough, Jankovic at times could hit a very, very low shot that caught out Vaidisova many times...

Way to be, Nicole.

JJ won't have the year she had last year, nor will she play as many tournaments. That's ok, she and Kuznetsova's places in the Top 3 with 2 players with the last name of Williams. As it should be.

I noticed that Nicole added more topspin to her game. She rolls the ball more higher over the net in this match, but still hitting the ball hard as a rock. If she puts Kuznetsova on the defense or if the defensive Kuznetsova shows up to play, Nicole should win relatively easy.:) And yes, her boobs do look a lot better. Is it just me or does Nicole Vaidisova resembles Alicia Silverstone and Amanda Bynes combined?

Nope, they were pretty even, few points here and there. Serve made the difference in the end, Jelena lost her 1st service game of the 1st set and didn't have a chance to break afterwards. They had the same number of winners and Nicole had 5 more UEs in the 1st set and yet Nicole won it. Not taking anything away from her, she played a very good match and she won many cheap points with her serve, many of them unreturned. A good match overall :)

Evil prevails.

I noticed that Nicole added more topspin to her game. She rolls the ball more higher over the net in this match, but still hitting the ball hard as a rock.

Sometime last year Azarenka's coach said Vika had told him that Nicole's shots, particularly the BH, are much heavier and hit with more spin than they look.

But still, the number of relatively easy shots that Nicole netted or sent into the doubles alley because she couldn't take those last minute 1-2 steps around the ball. :help: And the number of apparently easy ROS she missed completely. :help: Everybody has Jankovic's serve for breakfast - how come Nicole never does anything with it?

Nevertheless, the match was occasionally quite good, with some fun rallies, and Nicole managed to tough out a win even when Jankovic began to absorb/neutralize/return her serve in the third set. Acing (+ tons of unreturnables) such an excellent returner 12 times is no mean feat.

To be honest, I only saw the highlight clip on Eurosport. I wish I had seen the whole match. I've always thought Nicole's groundstrokes are quite flat, and she's definitely added more spin now. I can see the difference clearly. I hope she sticks to the same game plan. Topspin is a great thing regardless of how much spin a player wants to use. For some reason, I like to nice, round shots with the little loop. It's clean, even though I also love watching flat, aggressive power.
