View Full Version : Anna Chakvetadze's chances at the Australian Open

Jan 8th, 2008, 12:31 PM
Her name seems absent from many discussions these days.

How do people (who perhaps follow her more closely than I do) think she will fare in Melbourne? Her performance at Sydney is quite concerning, especially as she has quarterfinal points to defend at the first slam of the year. Has she any chance to make a deep run?

QF at best

What happened to her last month will surely have had a big effect on her, and I think that a lot depends on how she is able to deal with that stuff.

Also, a lot depends on the draw, because Anna rarely loses to players that one would consider to be obviously less talented than her. I think at best, a quarter final, but I expect her to lose before that stage :p

It depends on the draw. Anna is very good at beating people she should beat.
And when she plays a good player who's off that day, she's won those kinds of matches

It depends on the draw. Anna is very good at beating people she should beat.

Like Katerina Srebotnik? Its hard to be optimistic about Anna performance now. Same as about Elena. Luckilly Anna is in better situation than Elena. At leadt Katerina will be seeded...

She needs to regroup herself otherwise she's going to say bye bye to R4.

She was red hot over the summer but has not been playing well the last couple of months. Unfort, she might lose in the early rounds if she is not mentally focused.

Thanks to her high seeding, she has a great chance of getting into the second week, IF she doesn´t run into Davenport first!!

Jan 8th, 2008, 04:38 PM
She has a great chance to make the second week due to her high seeding; but then she could face Davenport in early rounds or dangerous floaters could block her path to the second week (like Srebotnik).

This is argubly Chakvetadze's worse surface.
She's not able to produce much pace from high balls.

Some people say she's still tramatized from her incident in Moscow, I think she's finally getting in her sophomore slump. People are able to understand her game.

4th round at best.

Jan 8th, 2008, 07:48 PM
she might struggle to the second week

Jan 8th, 2008, 07:50 PM
QF at very best....

Kata is a very good player, it's not a disgraceful loss by any means. It doesn't mean that Anna won't do well at the AO. Probably no more than a QF, though.

Ummm. Can't we wait of the draw? I mean, she could draw Lindsay in the first round for instance.

i think either qf or sf...but im gonna be optimistic sf

Quarters, maybe semis at best, unless she gets Jankovic in the semis, then a sure final for Chak.

im a huge anna fan and have been dissapointed by her lack of fight recently. though saying that she has pulled it together for the biggest events. i would be satisfied with a 4th round in oz, qtrs would be great anything beyond that will be amazing. i think shes struggling in a transition of her game at the moment, anyone who has seen her since the us open knows shes hitting the ball harder but is struggling to control it and making alot of errors, her 1st sevre is bigger now but shes missing it more, making her vunerable on 2nd serve. it seems to me she realy wants to go for it this year but she could come up trumps or bust. at the moment i wouldn't be shocked to see her lose early at oz open and i wouldn't be shocked with the right draw to see her in the final.

Quarters, maybe semis at best, unless she gets Jankovic in the semis, then a sure final for Chak.

Nothing's sure about that...Jankovic has beaten her as recently as last spring and they had a marathon final at Birmingham.

I agree that Anna's game has been in transition and the results have been mixed. I don't see her winning the Aussie, but the semis with a doable draw are in reach.

Will scrape through to the second week, her form hasn't got off to the best start this year!

Jan 9th, 2008, 12:04 AM
She has NO chance of winning, absolutely zero. But that applies to most players.

She won't win a Slam until she drastically changes her game. It is just not capable with the current crop of players. Even Kuzy is struggling to get near winning a Slam these days and she is MILES beyond Chak's level.

She has plenty of time to progress though, maybe two years time she could be a contender.

I think that Anna will make it to the second week, but i don`t see her making it back to the quarterfinals, especially with the uncertainity about her mental state after the recent break-in incident.

How about:

Will lose to Sharapova if they ever meet, else has a shot at winning it.....

Jan 9th, 2008, 02:16 AM

QF's at best.

Jan 9th, 2008, 02:18 AM

QF's at best.

Ditto :wavey:

Jan 9th, 2008, 02:31 AM
I agree with everyone. She could make the QF at best.

Jan 9th, 2008, 06:46 AM
Thanks for your responses. The general consensus seems to be a R16/QF appearance. We'll see if that changes when the draw comes out on Friday.

Jan 9th, 2008, 08:12 PM
at best second round because her form is no good and events what happened to her this automn ... ANNA !!!!!!!!

Jan 9th, 2008, 08:22 PM
Upset in the 2R.

Jan 9th, 2008, 08:34 PM
Hmm, the loss in Sydney is troublesome, but at the same time I think she is among the most capable players in the draw of taking advantage of an opening. She will not challenge the best players, but with a little draw luck and an upset she could still make it fairly far. I wouldn't count her out quite yet.

SF Potential! :inlove:

Jan 9th, 2008, 10:43 PM
she probably will lose in first round.
that robbery is going to stay w/ her for a long time.
