I don't see a poll, but I'm glad to have her back. Realistically, she's not winning this Open. Can she win a few rounds? Most definitely. Cause an upset or two? For sure, but to think that she's going to go all the way is pretty slim to none.

Less of a chance than the Williams's, Sharapova and most of the top 10's, but way more of a chance that most players ranked less than #10.

I like the first two options :haha:

I'd go for something in between the third and the fourth options - definitely better than the lower seeds, but worse than those of Serena/Venus.

shes only lost one match, and that was agains the world number three.... so its hard to say really, we dont know how she wil peform against the top 10 players.

i would put her as a chance above dani and marion, but below the williamses in the rankings... so maybe my 8th fave?

She has as much chance as the rest of the top10, excluding Justine, Venus, Serena & Sharapova.

If we're talking about winning the whole thing, I'd say Lindsay has a better chance than Anna as well.

Agreed. Since when did the WS have same chance of the Serbs?

With JJ somewhat injured and Ana playing quite unpredictably Im not sure they are as big a threat as their rank suggests :(

Very little chance to win, but a good chance to beat a few seeds and make the quarters

I dont think she will win it, but she could get pretty far.

I love the fact we are having this debate. The way Lindsay has played lately let's hope the draw gods shine on her come Friday's draw and she doesn't end up playing Justine in the first round. But having said as well as Lindsay's played lately she has only played on top ten player in that time twice and it was the same player for a win and loss. I am biggest Lindsay fan and even I don't think she can win the oz open but having said that Serena won last year ranked 81 so you never know what might happen. I would love to be proven wrong too,

Why are Williamses/Serbs grouped together?

Davenport is now 31. She last won a Grand Slam eight years ago when she was 23. The last time a woman 31 or older won a Grand Slam singles title was in 1990.

I would say her chances of winning the Australian Open are pretty small. But with a kind draw she could make the quarterfinals or even the semifinals.

As good a chance as most of the top 10 :)

Without seeing the draw, I'd say the top contenders break down as...

Tier 1 - Justine and Venus
Tier 2 - Serena and Maria
Tier 3 - Jelena, Ana, Davenport and Kuznetsova

I don't care what her rank says she is. Lindsay is one of the top 10 (if not better) female tennis players in the world.

1. Justine
2. Serena/Venus
3. Sharapova/Davenport

I say Lindsay Davenport has a good chance if the draw is good. Let's say if Lindsay is on one half of the draw and Serena/Venus/Henin/Sharapova are on the other half. Let's say a couple of upsets happen, say Camille Pin taking out Sharapova, then anything is possible.

Kick Venus out of this list and I pretty much agree with it.

3rd opttion , I don't think she'll win but at the same time no one will want to play her . She has as good of a chance as venus and sharapova not Serena and Justine though. She's not a long shot, she has an outside chance. Problem is she could have an early exit if she plays one of the big 4 in an early round.

As good as some of the top 10, I think her chances are just as good or maybe better than Daniela, Bartoli or Anna C for example, the only issue is she may get a terrible draw and could face a top player in an early round.

1. Justine
2. Serena/Venus
3. Sharapova/Davenport

I'd concur with this guy . But she could draw Serena or Henin in like the second or third round and then what?

Depends on the draw. She's not winning it but QFs, maybe.

If you had to put the top players in Tiers at the moment they would look something like this

Tier 1: Henin, S. Williams, V. Williams, Sharapova

Tier 2: Jankovic, Ivanovic, Kuznetsova, Davenport*

Tier 3: Chakvetadze, Hantuchova, Vaidisova, Bartoli, Golovin

To me, it seems that Davenport fits in best with the tier 2 girls. She's won a lot of matches, but hasn't been tested much against the highest echelon (she hasn't played anyone in the tier 1 group since her comeback). Because of her weapons and experience in the latter rounds of Grand Slams it would obviously be foolish to count Lindsay out. However, I'm of the opinion that she's going to need a bit more time back on the tour before she's ready to tangle with Henin/Serena/Venus/Maria on a regular basis.

I think that as long as Davenport doesn't have to face one of the tier 1 girls in the first couple of rounds, she should be good for a Quarterfinal run. Whether she progesses beyond that will depend on how well she's moving and serving on whatever day(s) she plays the top 4 ladies.

I would say she has a better chance of winning it than some of the top 10 such as Bartoli, Anna and Dani. BUT I don't think she'll win it. So a mix of 3 and 6 i guess.

for those who thinks that Lindsay has no chance to win AO, it would be so hilarious when she trounce on their favorite players early on in the tournament, be afraid, be verrrrrry afraid.

A chance as good as anyone in the top 10! Lindsay has done everything right in this comeback. She's sharp and out there for a reason...to win. Its great to have her back :hearts:

Players' chances aren't really draw dependent.
It's about whether you can say she's got the same portntial to go far as certain players in the field.
People have been betting on the AO for weeks without a draw.

By the way, to answer the question at hand-- "0." Sorry folks. Watching Lindsay play in majors is like watching a slow Sharapova who doesn't have a fighting spirit.

Or maybe further. If she makes it past the quarters, she'll definitely run into a Williams or Henin and I think she could surprise us and maybe beat Venus or Serena. You never know. If she can stay strong mentally, she can beat them. I don't know about Henin though. :tape:

She'll make a damn good showing though. Considering a good draw, of course.
She'll play well above her rank, in other words.

The fact is that Lindsay isn't the same player than she was before her pregnancy. She played 4 matches (all top 30 including 2 top 10) that went in 3 sets and won all of them. She has absolutly nothing to lose and she's swinging freely in the ball and it's in this situation where she plays her best. She can probably beat anyone except Henin at this Open. A slow Sharapova? The small difference in speed between Sharapova and Lindsay is insignificant.
